Thank you so much for bringing us into your history of being a collector! I have loved following you and seeing your beautiful collection grow. You mentioned about feeling like a kid how you had to grow out of toys and collectibles and I had the same feeling when I was a kid. I also tried to suppress that part of me when I was graduating high school and entering college! At the end, I wanted to be happy and collecting Sailor Moon and other beautiful items (I’m a big Hello Kitty collector too!) made me happy! Now I get to work in my home office with my beautiful items and collection and feel happy and safe every day :) Thank you again Ochi for sharing!!! ❤

Ochi!!! Loved your sharing of your experience. My dad currently still wishes I grew out of Sailor Moon. He’s a history buff and wishes I didn’t care so much for fantasy so when he visits our home he sees my SM collection he pointedly ignores it. It really bites because I’m so proud of it. In high school I didn’t tell a soul I loved Sailor Moon because I never met another Moonie. I started collecting in 1997 til 2003. Then started again in 2015 when I started noticing Walmart was carrying the new dubs. My husband has been super supportive in my collecting and I with him in his fandoms. Thank you Ochi for sharing your experience and helping me to feel less alone. ❤

I remember collecting Beanie babies. I didn’t collect too many of those. I loved hearing your backstory on your collecting journey. Ah I loved the 2011 merch. I actually was able to get some of the Italian merch through your tumbler I found the link for Muscara. My parents got me the Italian Sailor Moon doll as an early birthday gift. I still have it all these years. I always hoped the Italian merch would continue like getting that Super Sailor Moon talking Italian doll and that electronic Disguise pen and maybe outer dolls. That year definitely ignited my love for Sailor moon and wanting to collect. I related so much to your story in terms of feeling alone in loving Sailor Moon and other things you love.

Not buying the 2011 dolls when they came out is in my top 10 toy collecting regrets... Maybe even my top 5... Your collection room is so impressive and absolutely stunning though, even if it's a mess, it's hard to understate the sheer amount and beauty of the items in your collection! OMG! Thank you so much for sharing your collector journey 💜💜💜 No wonder I like your channel and content so much. In my case I'm a bit older, but went through similar experiences on my teens. Watching anime/cartoons in Middle School was okay, but by High School I wouldn't want people to know that it was an important part of my life. Similarly when I finished High School and started adulting I tried to do and concentrate my energy in "things my age" 'cause I didn't want to be an outcast. And in some ways I continued buying random stuff here and there, nothing too flashy or big 'cause "no-no". I specially treasured some toys my high school boyfriend had given me since they were Sailor Moon (some of them he got from eBay, actually). Until eventually it started becoming "okay" to have certain interests as an adult. And when I came out of my "otaku closet" was when a coworker (a much younger and super cool girl) identified the music I was listening too (I was listening to Hyde, maybe you know them). It was because of her that I started embracing my otaku, geek, collector self. Thank you so much again, and btw I just recently picked of the giveaway price. Jupiter is 💚💚💚, thank you so very much! I know you'll reach the 18K soon, and then the 20K. xoxox

This was super interesting to watch Ochi. My journey is a bit different then yours. I live in Belgium and back when I was a kid anime wasn’t popular at all, except Pokémon that started airing here in 1998. All anime that came afterwards were just viewed as weird Japanese cartoons for kids that are just like Pokémon 😂. I watched Sailor Moon when I was 7 years old for the first time but never found toys of it. I think I always have been a collector in my heart because I used to display my My little Pony’s & Polly Pockets all over my room and was devastated when my mom got rid of them. My collection journey started officially in 2014 when I bought my first Sailor Moon petit chara figures and haven’t looked back ever since. I discovered your channel a few years ago when I first started collecting proplica items and when I wanted to find unboxing videos on KZbin your channel popped up. I got back to watching Sailor Moon & anime again throughout my college years, got my own Sailor Moon Collection even bought the new Princess Serenity StyleDoll to start my SM Doll collection, and even my start my own art shop making and selling fanart anime goods to fans who love everything Anime. Im the same age as you and I really felt pressure throw a lot of my childhood to stop liking stuff like sailor moon. I remember very distinctly been told I was too old to watch Power Rangers at 8. Being the age I am now in seeing how young my nieces and nephews are blows my mind that anyone would think I was too old to play with dolls at that point. I think being required to grow up and pretend to not like those things lead me as an adult openly enjoying those things and buying collectibles and not caring what other people think about it.

😊Your story is similar to mine as when we started back when anime was really niche thing. People still know me for doing anime drawings in school. I kind of let it go when I got older, but got back into it when the live action PGSM started. One of my favourite memories was going to Safeway grocery store and putting in a dollar coin, that my mom would give me every time we go to the store , in and get a bootleg sailor moon card. Back then it was the only way I could see what was going to happen in the Sailor Moon Franchise, because they took the recent cards from Japan and reproduce them. My mom would spoil me with Sailor Moon stuff(as much as a single mom with five kids could)because it was the only way she could connect with her quiet shy kid. I remember the last time I watch sailor moon on TV. I was at my grandparents house because they had cable and saw on the TV guy that they were gonna show Sailor Moon in the middle of the night on YTV I think it might’ve been S or super S I don’t remember which episode. It was definitely a rerun and I had seen it before on DVD. It was also When the hype was going down and copyright was going to Taken away for a long time. But in the beginning it was fun watching Sailor Moon because when it got a popular they brought in the voice cast on YTV and they would do site in interview with them. I still got the on line printout of the interview with Terry Hokins. Later on when they got into Sailor Moon R it was fun to watch the TV DJs because sugar a.k.a. Rini was one of the DJs. They wound talk about fun kids stuff and announce what shows were coming up next, And yes her voice was always like that. And they were always live, you could say they were KZbinrs before KZbin was a thing. Fun time to be a fan I think that’s enough Sailor Moon stories for me thanks for sharing yours.😊

I love this so much! I was also born in 1988, and it was a WILD time to be an anime fan. I remember sneaking downstairs at night to watch Toonami Midnight Run and watching the episode where Princess Serenity appears. I would say that The OG Powerpuff Girls were my gateway to Sailor Moon. My childhood best friend who I watched PPG with introduced me to Sailor Moon and the first episode I saw was Mercury's intro and she was my favorite at the time. I grew up in a very conservative Christian household, so anime is highly misunderstood by my family. Freshman year, I got punished for watching it/liking it and my mom went into my room and removed all of my early collection items that I got from flea markets. It was devastating, and I also buried my love for the show and it came back in full force when I left for college. My family has calmed down, but still don't get it. I don't ever expect them too, but I have found many friends through this fandom and wouldn't trade it for the world!

I guess I started collecting Disney DVDs around 2012, when I really got into Disney again. I then became a Sailor Moon in 2014, when I discovered a music video online. Since the German songs got me into Sailor Moon, the first items I bought were CDs. It was a good time to become a fan, because they started releasing the manga and DVDs (and there was a lot going on in Japan too, like Sailor Moon Crystal and new musicals). I mostly bought German stuff at first, since it was easiest to find, and I was so jealous of everyone who got their hands on Japanese stuff. I started using Ebay a few years ago, which gave me the opportunity to find cool and rare stuff. If my 14 year old me back then knew how my collection looks today, she wouldn't believe it.^^ I guess what got me into collecting were KZbin channels, and other fans who I met online. I loved watching collection videos, which inspired me to start my own KZbin channel in 2015.^^ I even found a very good friend, who was kinda my "collecting rival". xD

Thanks for sharing your story! I feel the similarities! I always been different in a sense ( weird/adhd) . I grew up with Japanese culture but living in America . Which around my time all that stuff was seen as weird. I never really fit in either . I was the weird anime loser , the weird goth chick etc. ; I was bullied a lot . I always really liked sailor moon (and other anime) but I never really had the thought of collecting as a kid or teen. I grew up poor and still kinda now so I never really had the thought or had many items. Couple years ago , still being the same me (just more mature) I had a job so I got a bunch of sailor moon items but now I’m a newly mom so it’s mostly on pause . It’s amazing how far anime /sailor moon has gone. I never really thought it as collecting just having what I like but haha I guess in a sense it is. I feel like it’s a good time to be into anime , gaming & nerdy thing. It’s so trendy now but it’s also a bad timing to not have a job . The amount of SM merch coming out now is insane! 😅.

I’m the same age; born in 88. I watched Sailor Moon when it was in syndication in the 90s before Cartoon Network days. Curious to know if you got into it the same way. For me the first Sailor Moon item I ever got was this old alarm clock around 2008 from a flea market. One of the people I was with knew I liked Sailor Moon and she pointed it out to me. It was only $5. It was interesting having that cause girls would come to my dorm and be fascinated by it. I was never judged for that pink Sailor Moon clock despite being a heterosexual male though, women liked it cause they watched it as kids too. Years later I looked it up on ebay and I was shocked to see people selling it for $300+ but I held onto it. Since then I’ve collected a lot of stuff. Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball were the first anime I ever saw so I have a lot of stuff from those in particular.

Sensational 17 years of collecting Sailor Moon memorabilia Brooke 🌙🤍💙❤️👍🐺🐺🐺. The only Sailor Moon collectables I have are 2 Q Posket figures of Usagi as Sailor Moon and as Princess Serenity, a small Sailor Moon figure, 2 Funko Pops one of Sailor Moon with Luna and the other Super Sailor Moon, a Sailor Moon poster, all 10 volumes of the Sailor Moon manga Eternal Edition, all 5 seasons of the original Sailor Moon anime, all 3 Sailor Moon movies of the 90's and all 3 seasons of Sailor Moon Crystal. I'm a collector too, I mostly collect Transformers figures from the War for Cybertron Trilogy and Legacy toyline. Funko Pops of my Favourite characters from Pop Culture, mostly the Transformers G1 characters from the 80's, characters from Space Jam: A New Legacy (mostly LeBron James and the Looney Tunes), Ronald McDonald and the McDonaldland characters, Star Wars characters, Mickey Mouse & Friends and Pixar characters (mostly Pixar characters who appear as meet and greet characters at Disneyland).
