It’s been a very hard year in the garden for me, this is only my second year in my current garden. I definitely bit off more than I can chew by starting too many projects at once. It’s so difficult to let things go so that I can have at least one area that looks good. Your videos remind me that gardening should feel fun, not like an obligation and it’s been helping me on the days when it feels like nothing is going to plan out there.

Years ago we built a compost bin system and it did work well but as you mention, rodents did come. Raccoons, moles, mice, voles. Ya, the rodents became a problem. No more composting on my property.

Sue, I have decided that I have to pace myself with my projects and it's been going great. I don't feel stressed and its very enjoyable. Small projects have great rewards and best of all I have accepted that some things will simply have to stay as they are until I get to it...or not 😁. Great video.

Sue, I purchased that tool the first time you talked about it. I've used it so much that my husband had to sharpen it for me! The rocks are pretty. Every time I put a shovel in my ground, I dig up rocks like that... sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller. There are so many rocks that I have put together two dry river beds. My favorites are the quartz ones...pink and white. Love these little projects! ❤ Lina

We tried to get the heavy stuff done before the heat hit WI also. I definitely have to wear a rolled up handkerchief on my head or the sweat gets in my eyes and glasses. 😂 I was a real mess a couple days ago because the mosquitoes were SO bad I had a head net and long sleeves and was harvesting and weeding the brassicas under their bug netting. Omg, I almost cut the irrigation twice as I couldn’t see and even though the bugs couldn’t get me they were buzzing by my ear 😒. I have that same sickle and I keep storing it safe locations and I forget where I put it😅. It’s very handy when I find it. Oh the memories, I know all too well how you feel. Trips we made up north to in-laws cabin and how places and things use to be. I miss them, my folks and sister, ect. Seems time went so fast and many close family skipped out one after the other.

Yes, out in my garden Saturday to beat the heat in W. Michigan. Still should've had a sweat band around my forehead. 😂 More power to you, Sue. Those phlox are tough buggers to dig up. Just ordered your tool. I have phlox all over thanks to the David's phlox that went to seed years ago. Of course, they're not true to the parent; so many fuschia and a few interesting variations. Time to show some tough love in my garden too. Thanks for the inspiration! 😊

Hi Sue, thanks for this helpful video. We took your advice on the hand sickle tool, and it has been a game changer for me. I have a diminished grip strength which hampers weed pulling and this makes easy work of it for me. Yay!! Great for several other tasks as well, so thank you for sharing the information. We have already ordered several more for family members. Thanks for all you do! We garden in Michigan with deer and bunny pressure so we appreciate your gardening know-how in these situations. xoxo Antoinette

I didn’t realize those allium bulbs produce the mini ones. I will have to keep an eye on it. Where I live the spring Scilla (I think that’s what they are called ) flowers emerge just as the snow is melting. Although it produces a beautiful carpet and spreads throughout the lawns and gardens, what is not fun is removing the mini slender mini leaves and stems , as the foliage makes my gardens look very messy after the flowers die. These flowers are best for woodland areas and fields. Nature obviously found a way of implanting themselves. 🌸🇨🇦
@GardenMoxie6 ай бұрын
You are right about how nature picks the best spots for plants. I was not expecting those alliums to go crazy in that bed, but as you saw, I have a mess on my hands that I have avoided for years 😂. The past 2 years I just pulled up the foliage.

Question about your brown paper bags from Home Depot. How well do they work for you? I would like to stop using plastic. My concern is rain. Will they hold up for weekly pickup?
@kitgenz11146 ай бұрын
I've used them and they are pretty thick. Thicker than paper grocery bags. They will hold up if it rains once-ish before trash day depending on how heavy the rain is.

Mine definitely hold up for the weekly pick up. If they sit on the ground, they can lose the bottom if they get really wet (rainy days), but that is not common in my experience.

We use a very sturdy plastic wheeled with lid attached yard waste container..it was a bit pricey but well worth it as it should last many many years..(already had it for 4) the yard waste people can attach to the back of their truck and it’s raised and emptied..works great for us and them.
