Another great song on album 3, which hit number 1 on the charts. Page dedicated this song to the woman, also a musician, who was his his girlfriend at the time he wrote the lyrics. During concerts, Plant would sometimes introduce it by saying: "This song is for our families and friends and people we've been close to. It's a song of love at its most innocent stages." Page played both a six-string and a twelve-string acoustic guitar, as well as a pedal steel guitar, another instrument he learned for the first time to record tracks for album 2. Jones again played the mandolin and Plant did all the singing, including the harmony vocal line. Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, the guys were very creative and musically gifted. They took a bit of heat from some people over this album because it was such a departure from albums 1 and 2 but I love it. And, as Olivia said, "You can clearly tell it's just a love for music." :) Silas, I found this quote by John Paul Jones a while back that I think gives us some insight as to why LZ was so diverse and versatile. "I've always maintained that Zeppelin was the spaces between us. Bonzo [Bonham] was into soul music and Motown ballads, I was into jazz and classical music, Jimmy was into rockabilly, blues and folk, and Robert was into blues and Elvis Presley. None of us the same record collection. Nobody on the outside of the band could understand this." Edit: Corrected poorly worded sentence that stated this song went to number 1. It was the album, not the song, that hit number 1.

This song was written and played live by the yardbirds long before Zeppelin. Jimmy put it on led zep III embellishing it a little bit. Roberts vocals were clearly better than when keith relfs sang it.

In the early sixties Jimmy Page was a session guitarist in London. He quickly became the most sought after guitarist in England for sessions. Some bands wouldn’t book the studio for recording until the likes of Jimmy Page were available - he was still a teenager!!

I saw Page and Plant live in Chicago in the late 90s. They're the lead singer and guitar player from Led Zeppelin. It was a surreal experience. People were weeping in the audience.

But a couple live versions of one's you already did that I think you would both love are since I've been loving you,and dazed and confused live,both from the song remains the same concert madison square garden 1973. Actually the song remains the same/the rain song also. A really special concert where the concert footage of their movie was filmed. Since I've been loving you is just killer,dazed and confused is a 29 minute guitar clinic,and the faster paced song remains the same transitioning into the beautiful rain song.

This song is about those halcyon days of our younger years. I can remember listening to this with my then girlfriend outside in a park by a beautiful river near where we lived.....the sun was shining, her hair and eyes were so bright....I'll never forget that moment.

Yes, when lec Zeppelin was started the members were 19 to 21. They wrote most of their songs. Unbelievable to think the quality back then late 60s and all 70s were, I know i lived it. Amazing never to be again. And it wasn't all rock. I stillnlisten 90% to that era to this day. I'm in my mid 60s now. Led Zeppelin was my favorite. CCR and Moody Blues, Traffic. Grand Funk Railroad.. You should listen to them. Now that was music

That’s what always happens. Tangerine makes you smile, makes you close your eyres. sway a little, and then when the “and I do….” the guitar kicks in - your jaw drops and to hear it again you click back a few seconds with your mouse/rewind/pick up the needle and move it back on the record a bit. That’s what you’re suppose to do. 👍🏼

I was slightly younger than you I think, I'm not sure of your exact age, but I would say in junior high school when I feel hard for Led zepp. I'm about all of their albums up to that point and then bought the next three before Bonzo died as I went through high school and into college age. Silas reminds me of myself when I discovered Zepp when they started, everyone said my face played the music! Here in the UK they were literally rock gods, their creativity, sophistication, playing talent, Roberts vocal talent and diversity of styles was intoxitating, still is! Jimmy Page's ideas and sounds were pretty unique and part of that was that he was deeply into British folk like Bert Jansch, Davy Graham, Fairport Convention, Pentangle. He also understood the "vibe" that older US regional folk, country and Black blues records had rather than just copying the structure. Keep up the good work guys

This song is sweet and innocent. As J Mar said, Jimmy wrote it about former girlfriend, American singer/songwriter Jackie De Shannon (he said she had "tangerine eyes" - I have no clue what that means but...ok then lol). They met when he was still a session musician and he played on some of her music. She would bring him to the States and show him around the various industry people and music scenes here at the time. It was partially through her introductions that he would remember Atlantic records when it came time to look for a label. Also, as Kim Mueller mentioned, a version was originally played when Jimmy was in The Yardbirds before Zep. It had different lyrics and was called Knowing That I'm Losing You. Robert's voice was double tracked to do the harmony, however, when Zep played it live, Jimmy would harmonize with him. Jimmy rarely sang, but, if you ever want to hear him sing, he has 1 single he recorded when he was a 21-year-old session player called She Just Satisfies. It seems so crazy when I have people reacting to Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd. You know all the bands because even when I was younger sometime ago they had been around a while and they were still touring and I can remember seeing Pink Floyd twice and seeing plant isnd Plant. The reason why I was only page and plant is because not everybody was alive by the time I got to that concert but boy I’ll tell you what plant could still wear those leather pants and look fabulous night but I can pull that off, but this is timeless music and I know you will thank tangerine is jazz bangin
