In the military weapons are usually dummy corded to the person in the water, you could rig up a simple elastic length of line around 6 feet long to the handle area and connected to a weight belt with a quick release D-ring for safety.

I have never used a modern Spear Fishing Reel, 70 yrs ago, my Dad started using Penn Trolling reels. The first one was a 65 ( still have it) When about 15 Yrs of age he bought me a Penn 67, When open water fishing you do not tighten the drag, Mid way. Something around rocks and you go full drag to try to keep it from holling in. Pelagic and you loosen it as the gun moves forward, and what about the line that goes to the float? He an I always used stainless cable as line. You are 100 times more likely to tangle with Spectra than with wire ( fore those that have never tried wire, you cant cut it, but you won't tangle either)

You know why they found that gun cuz it was carbon fiber and that gun is going to bring you good luck trust me you know how big the ocean is Judah and for somebody to find a gun a couple days later? Incredibly great luck you have just happy I don't know her name what the twin that she didn't get dragged down and you saw them sharks. Due to just keep on keeping on and enjoy life I'm 45 but what I do what I want what I want my business runs its own. We will meet soon when mahi starts that's my favorite fish to catch but I go far.
