You all make a great couple, wishing you both many many years of happiness together.

Trents lyrics. Johnny's cadence and tone. It's amazing. People need to also recognize that Trent Reznor wrote this in a just as personal state dealing with addiction and suicidal thoughts and friends etc....was a very personal song for him that he would even berate people at concerts in the early 90s to be respectful and quiet while he performed; or he would not perform it.
@TheNeonNinjaАй бұрын
Johnny did not want to cover the song. He didn't think he could do it justice the way heard it from Trent (early 90s Industrial Rock that Trent basically invented the sound). Rick Rubin convinced him by giving him a reference track of basically this; a guitar and folk singer just laying out the lyrics. Then he fell in love with it, said let's do it. We all owe Rick Rubin a thank you as well.

This is such a powerful rendition of this song - and even the guy who composed it said that it wasn't his song any more. Johnny Cash produced some brilliant material in his American series. You would have thought this song was written for him - but the strength and dignity he brought to this. Yes it is his wife - and they were great performing together in the past.
@Lunzatis_PalemoonАй бұрын
The biggest reason this song sticks with people is because of the first impression they get seeing this video and hearing the song. You were right by not warning her because she deserves the chance to experience this masterpiece like the majority of us did when we first heard it. Johnny Cash also had his issues with addiction which is why this song was perfect for him to cover. Trent's version = young man struggling with addiction. Johnny's version = that same man at the end of his life realizing that everything that happened is what made him who he was, thus the words "I would keep myself, I would find a way".

❤❤THANK YOU, Cliff Beats and Erin!THANK FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO OF THE SONG, "HURT"! This means alot to me. This song, "Hurt" is very personal to me because I can relate alot to the lyrics. Back in 1994 , I was a junkie /crackhead and spiraling downward more and more in addiction. The price of my addiction led me to lose custody of my 2 young kids, my son and my daughter, some stints in county jail, homelessness, detoxes,rehabs, whatever else drama and chaos happened . In 1998 , I had to relinquish my parental rights with my daughter. My mother couldn't take care of both of my kids financially and emotionally. It was the most difficult thing ,I had to do in my life but, I loved my daughter very much and I wanted her to have a life that I know in reality couldn't give her. But, after that, I felt like a failure, ashamed , guilty, "HURT". So,that gave me the excuse to keep doing what I was doin'. I pretty much gave up ; I didn't care anymore,escpecially what would happen to me. Also, I just want to say, THANK GOD FOR MY MOTHER because she used alot of "TOUGH LOVE " on me many , many times through my addiction. I truly believe, by her doing that, saved me and my life! God was watching over me too. Back in 2004, I saw on MTV , Johnny's rendition of, "HURT".Even though I was in a haze and a daze, it made such a huge impact on me, that I FINALLY decided to get myself clean and sober, FOR ME,NOT ANYBODY ELSE! ME! It was the 2nd hardest thing I had to do in my life. Getting clean and sober sucks at 1st, for a couple of years even. But, with alot of support and actually doing what I NEEDED TO DO,sticking with it at all costs......HERE I AM! I have been in recovery from crack and heroin since 2004;alcohol since 2011. I feel truly grateful and blessed. I should've been dead yeeeeeeeeeeeears ago! Life isn't perfect but it sure beats the hell of me being 6 feet under! When I still hear this song, I break down and cry. It's very cleansing for me and reminds me just how far I've overcame. Now,my mission is to help those strugglin' with addiction/ alcoholism and/or mental illness . With all, that being said, THANK YOU, Cliff Beats and Erin FOR SHARING AND DOING THIS EPISODE! I APPRECIATE YOU AND WHAT YOU DO! YOU ROCK! 🤘😎

Don't worry Karen. As a long time Johnny Cash fan since I was a kid in the 80's, this song punched deep because I knew it was his farewell song. The life he led was tumultuous at times, and then he found peace. Here, he lays his final demons to rest. Though the song was written by the lead singer for NIN, they admit that this is no longer their song. It is Johnny's.

It's a beautiful video and he definitely took Trent Reznor's lyrics as his own for sure. Since Kris Kristofferson passed, only Willie Nelson is left of the Highway Men :( Roseanne Cash is Johnny and June Carter Cash's only child, she said when he was filming this she asked "daddy why does it sound like you're saying goodbye" . . . .but he had a great life, he helped the downtrodden, the outcasted, and prison inmates. His song *The Man In Black* actually explains why he always wore it. Are you ever ready though? I've seen the video a lot, and I get choked up every time.. If you're in any way empathic, songs like these will hit a little harder. #KarenNeedsToComeBack a fresh perspective is always awesome.
