Thank you for this! Now I KNOW where to check for my data "leaking" to Google. Thanks to you, I can now confidently KNOW I'm currently at 0GB for Google Drive, Google Photo, and Gmail. I can now ignore the spam messages about increasing Google Drive space limits! Wonderful!

Clicking on the line of information about storage space being used, used to always take us to the storage detail! If I had not seen your video today, I would not have known how to get to the storage detail as opposed to Google’s now sneaky attempt to get us to buy more storage. So, thank you Leo.

I'll be watching this more than once. Nuance on nuance. Thanks for creating important content about Google and its many quirks.

Jeez, what a lot of faffing about. I just take a little while on a regular basis and get rid of the nonsense. All these storage options I liken to a spare room in your house full of crap that's been put out of the way because you can't be bothered to deal with it at the time. Eventually you do have to, then it's a chore. I don't use any cloud storage and my email account with yahoo, which I've had for over 20y, is cleared of rubbish every week. All the stuff that I care about is saved externally so that i have no reliance on the whims and fancies of whatever tech giant that has my stuff.

How did you get so triggered from this video?

Cloud storage will never be safer, easier or smarter than putting your things on a thumb drive. If you have to share files with a different machine there are better ways of doing that too without having to visit Big Brother and there are better email clients than gmail.

Gmail is a mail service, not a client. You could argue, Proton is better than Gmail, but the storage problem behaves exactly the same as Gmail's.
@ironfist77892 сағат бұрын
thumb drives are not good for long term storage, but you can use thunderbird or something on an hd or ssd that is backed up.

Use an email client on your own PC (I use Evolution on Linux) and you can archive emails onto your own hard disk to free up Gmail space.

SURPRISE, this morning 1-23-25 I had Google, while watching this on my laptop, which does not have Google, I decided to check my desktop, . Lo and behold Google has been deleted! What do I do now? I had 3300 emails in Gmail.

Leo is telling you how to handle this scenario. He is not telling you which service is better and what you should or shouldn't do. That's not what the video is about.

What happens to emails that are blocked ? Once space is available will you receive them ?

Some free accounts may have more than 15 GB of space. My free account has 17 GB of storage. Early at the beginning when Gmail was invitation-only Google would give permanent additional storage for inviting friends to Gmail.

Thanks for this video, can you please comment on saving email-files as eml-files on your PC (using Thunderbird because Outlook doesn't seem to support this feature any more)?

I went to Google Photos, but there was no option to delete any of the photos stored there. Most of the storage space in my Gmail is taken up by Google photos.
@richardbrown30697 сағат бұрын
Clean up your account or pay for more storage. 15 GB for free is fairly generous considering Apple still only gives you 5 GB for free. Data centers, servers, storage and engineer / administrators, cost Google money to provide. I get that they can only provide their services for free up to a point.

A problem is that Google counts gmail attachments as storage, so if you get big attachments it eats up storage space
@Grunfeld7 сағат бұрын
I have a friend who sends large video attachments. Option [1] is d/l the attachment and delete the email; option [2] can be done in Thunderbird where you can save/delete the attachment and keep the email. Sometimes I want to [3] delete the friend till he learns how to upload his stuff elsewhere and just send me a link.

If your Gmail (Or any mail service) is full, you probably did not do a lot of things that were sent to you. This is ridiculous ! Get some work done and clean your act !

Thankfully I have better things to do, since my livelihood doesn’t depend upon any email account.
