extending original ideas, sampling generated stuff and chopping it up, editing parts of the arrangement with FX (reverb, filter etc.), re-arranging, overall FX with tape/cassette emulations, some general processing for stuff like transients, resonance build ups etc. and mastering :)

as someone who’s been a full time musician for 8 years now and who has a lot of experience with both, conventional music production and AI in music, I completely disagree. I’m aware of most of the arguments people are trying to make against it but honestly I still don’t get this whole fear mongering around the topic. nothing is being lost here, people have been able to (successfully) make music without knowing how to play an instrument, let alone know anything about music theory, for a while now. the amount of good music out there is unprecedented and that’s only because it’s becoming more accessible through technology.

It’s an amazing tool but we are already seeing it implemented to replace raw, soulful, human art. Many people consume art causally; without much thought. At what point will the use of Ai push artists out the marketplace, solely because convenience? I believe AI will make it much harder for artists to profit from their work.

​@@chanell1491 Maybe we just have a different idea of what it means to be an artist but in my opinion the current state of AI still can't replace your experience as a human, it doesn't know what's cool and what isn't, it doesn't know how to say things in a way that resonates with people, it doesn't have insecurities, it doesn't have autonomy, it doesn't innovate and it certainly is not capable of replicating the hundreds of small decisions that make your art sound like yours to begin with. However, areas where it definitely can have a major impact in the long run are specific applications where your music or your skills as a musician are being used as a means to an end rather than a form of an artistic expression. For example at some point in the future I don't think most corporations would care whether the music they use in their ads is human-made or AI generated, as long as the quality is right and it's legally sound I can definitely see them picking the faster, cheaper and easier option every single time. But then again I think that's just how technological progress plays out as it does in every other industry and I don't understand why people apply such a different moral standard in this case, especially when the technology is incapable of doing the very thing people are so worried about getting replaced (nuance, ingenuity, etc.)
