Wow, I learned TWO things from this, that you can rebound an adventure into the creature, AND how Lazotep Convert copying an Ixalan God returns as itself and not the opposite side of the card. Interestingly, this invasion of amonkhet trick already existed in standard with Edgar, Charmed Groom // Edgar Markov's Coffin. The thing that makes the combo work is the new free sac outlet in Bart

17:54 Am I missing something? You could've played Pakpa to block Kumano before you surrendered and if you're lucky, maybe they hit lands rather than gas allowing you to get Acla down for a better blocking situation. Sure, any removal ends you but there was a chance there.

why don't you play bitter triumph in that deck? It's not only removal, it also allows you to place your combo pieces conveniently where you need it - in the graveyard. Also you can do the same thing with the black and white Edgar form VOW. That one is easier to get in the grave, when you have it on the battlefield (since you can sac the artifact as well). + he provides blockers (with Lifelink!) for days

The cheeky adventure synergy with the Whale is cute, but with all the targeted removal you're already running, I think those slots would be better served with Depopulates, especially in BO1.

Haha I also have cards that I praise, but that definetly sees akward situations. Like 'Tolarian Contempt' from MAT. It can be really powerful, because it can potentially delay your opponents card draws, if they decide to put the creatures on top of their deck. If they don't, then fine. But it can also be really akward with creatures that has really strong ETB triggers like Atraxa and Etali for instance 😂 I have used 'Tolarian Contempt' in a mono blue tempo/control deck before, and in that deck it went pretty well. Really frustrated my opponents I think (which does makes me feel bad. Why I rarely play control), because I had enough countering spells to potentially be able to counter the creatures when they were about to enter the battlefield again. So this is where that card is good. If you didn't get to counter several of your opponents creatures earlier in the game, then you can use 'Tolarian Contempt' to do it at a later turn, when they'd re-cast their creatures. Like you'd do with something like 'Fading Hope'. Now, I don't usually play these kinds of decks very often, since I really hate playing against them myself 😅 So I have tried the card out in a mono blue midrange deck. But for that it's not really that good, because you won't have enough countering spells to back you up. In a control deck, the Tolarian Contempt and countering spells are having eachothers backs in a way, which is actually kind of cool 😊

Okay funny story. I’ve been running Aclazotz/Invasion of Amonkhet in a deck together, and I tried this in a game with it but when they killed the flipped Invasion it didn’t trigger to return to the battlefield??? I just assumed I was wrong and the combo just didn’t work, but seeing this video I’m assuming they must’ve used exile removal and I just didn’t realize it 🤔

The combo is a little less robust than samwise cat food, since it's a trigger rather than activated they can deal with pieces in response before the god is back in play, where with samwise cat food everything is actrivated so as long as you have extra food you're good tro respond to their removal. Of course being in standard rather than historic is a big bonus here

What about using the gods as a deliberate removal sponge to waste the opponents removal and use the gods as ramp into powerful finishers like breach the multiverse, or etali. If the gods stay on the board, they hurt yah, abs if they die, they ramp you into huge threats.

You're dedicating a lot of your deck to achieve this combo and hope that your 7/7 etali isn't too late to achieve anything. Combos like this are best when you go all in, and as Seth was saying, the combo pieces are real threats in themselves so you're not just hoping you achieve the dream before your opponent kills you. It's like putting a 1 of Ulamg into any historic deck. Yeah sure it's one of the biggest threats, but it waters down your deck, and how is that fun?

It enters transformed... due to the death trigger on the Gods. They die and return transformed. Aka they return as the backside, and the backside of Invasion of Amonkhet is Lazotep Convert, which enters the battlefield and copies the god again.

what a cool interaction, and speaking of cool interactions, have you tried to use The Everflowing Well + Mysterious Tome to transform cards with 2 mana? I use those cards to flip an Azor's Gateway in comander, and I think you could do it with battles in standar or explorer

I've been running it for a few days now and standard has a ton of answers to this combo. Dinos have the 2 mana exile from the palientologist, 5c Atraxa has leyline binding (and they ALWAYS have it in hand. Seth was lucky in game 1), black has the graveyard trespasser, and mono red just smash face before you can do anything. A lot of the success I was having with this deck came from people not knowing what I was doing until it was too late. Cat's out of the bag now :D

I think it's because both cards reference transforming, but once Amonkhet leaves the battlefield it sees itself as Amonkhet and so transforms into the creature which copies creatures in graveyards

Lazotep Convert cannot exist in the graveyard because it's on the backside. So Lazotep isn't returning to the battlefield transformed, Invasion of Amonkhet is.

It doesn't care that it's a battle in the graveyard. When it was in it's creature form, it had the god's abilities. One of those abilities is that when it gets sent to the graveyard, it returns transformed. So, it only cares about itself in this case, not it's type. So it enters the battlefield transformed, and can use it's transformed ability again.

It being a battle in the graveyard is exactly why it works.. The "Aclazotz" dies, and goes to the graveyard, triggering the death trigger. In the graveyard, it is Invasion of Amonkhet. Then the Aclazotz death trigger returns Invasion of Amonkhet to the battlefield transformed.

Been running this combo in a totally different shell for the last few days (sorry if maybe that's how your opponent knew :D ), using dig and filters with the Tunnel-Grinder, and render inert to easily flip the amnokhet. Bitter Triumph is also a staple for decks where you need to put something in your hand into the yard, while also taking down a threat! I've had turn 4-5 wins with perfect hands, and others that have taken a little longer. It's a fun meme deck :D There's also one more creature that we've had in standard for over a year with the same ability as the God's death transform. Edgar Markov. He has one advantage over the Gods, he doesn't return tapped. He's worth running for a different flavour, or if you don't have enough wilds for the Gods!

In alchemy and historic on arena Orcish Bowmasters was changed to not trigger when entering the battlefield, this change is only for those formats. Scam is the name for blinking/reanimating (with a card like Undying Malice) any of the Modern Horizons 2 evoke incarnations (particularly Grief) so you get the ETB ability 2+ times and the creature while spending only 1 mana.
