I looove wood walls like this. I’m currently house hunting and I’ve found a couple houses that have been largely remodeled but the wood walls haven’t all be torn out and I love! I’d rather have wood walls than wood floors.

Technically, "Modern" refers specifically to Mid Century Modern when used in the realm of interior design. It is commonly misused to refer to more recent design though, which is technically "Contemporary," rather than modern.

agreed!! but in normal non design terms people refer contemporary modern as modern which is why it’s confusing !! there’s just so many modern styles lol

People, stain and condition before you put on walls, in well ventilated area or outside with proper masks, gloves, etc.!

I like hanging a busy piece of art (maybe like a funky collage art) in front of where people sit on the toilet so there's something to look at while you're there lol. maybe that could help cover up some of the mistakes?

As someone who has done the painstaking process of sanding paint off of ceiling beams to stain etc: 1. You probably won’t know whether the wood used in every beam is exactly the same or whether they are all solid wood or laminate until you remove the paint which may affect staining and final plans 2. The sanding dust will cover EVERYTHING. TAKE EVERYTHING OUT OF THAT ROOM and cover every surface you can with plastic. 3. WEAR A RESPIRATOR PLEASE and safety goggles as you’ll likely be looking up the entire time while sanding

The wood walls are looking great, and this process video was so fun. 🩵 just speaking as someone who studied architecture and works in design, I second the comments here about “contemporary.” Using the term “modern” for current real estate vernacular like grey laminate floors, marble countertops, white walls etc is incorrect (though it is a very common mistake). The term for what you are doing is “restoration” which has a long legacy of homeowners with an appreciation for older styles returning their properties to their original glory after they were toned down to suit the current real estate trends and secure a sale. There are lots of MCM homeowners especially in California who have now done this for their Neutra, Schindler, amd Eichler homes and it’s such a cool process. You should check out their work!
