How terrifying. I hope you can use Marty again soon and he hasn't suffered psychologically. Sending love and prayers xx

How disgusting that the owner didn’t even come over to apologise! I am grateful to hear that Marty has no physical injuries, hope you are both okay and not too shaken up! Sassy xxx

Thinking Out Loud bless you, thank you so much for your sweet comment. The owner was nowhere to be seen until I was making my way back with my friend, who then spotted a woman looking for her dogs. I did get a kind of apology, as I was walking back home. My friend has stopped was absolutely amazing and is a British transport police officer, what are the chances of that ever happening. Thankfully we both are absolutely fine physically, but only time will tell how Marty reacts with other dogs when back on harness. I hope you are keeping well. XX

First and foremost, I am glad you are both okay. This is actually one of my worst nightmares and thankfully has never happened to me and Pasco. Your comment about allowing Marty to defend himself certainly made me think. Initially, I was imagining myself in a similar situation and how I would probably attempt to get the other dog away but allowing your dog to defend himself is probably a better option. Good luck, stay safe and please update us on how you are both getting on :-)

Thank you so much for stopping by and for your lovely message. Yes we will definitely keep you updated. In terms of dog attacks, in my experience and talking from My own personal perspective it’s important that you don’t intervene because you could be seriously injured, yes of course the dog is your number one priority, but for me dropping the harness and lead allowed Marty to be in control and to run if necessary. I know it’s a scary prospect but in that split second you’ve got to judge what is safe for you and the dog. I hope you don’t ever find yourself in this position. Again thank you for your lovely words and we will update soon. :-).

Really sad to hear the story, although thankfully you both are OK. I know Marty from when he was a puppy in training, and he is such a sweet boy. He doesn't have any aggression at all, just a sweet passive boy. Lets hope he hasn't lost any confidence, but owners need to be responsible and accountable for their dogs behaviour. I dont have a dog, although I have dog walked for friends before, really used to scare me when I saw an unkown dog making a bee line across the park and I could see it happening. Take care x

Dave M0TAZ bless you and thanks so much for stopping by. Yes Marty is such a sweet, caring and loving boy, it was really sad to see him so startled at first, but he did try to defend himself with a bark to warn off the other dog. Thankfully my friend was able to move the other dog on. A very scary moment in any guide dog owners partnership. Thankfully we both were not hurt in anyway, I just hope it hasn’t knocked his confidence. I will keep an eye on it and see how we go. I think he will be absolutely fine but you just never know. Yes I also think dog owners should be accountable for their dogs actions, especially on working dogs. I will keep you all updated X

How appalling. Was brought up with animals and it was installed into me to always shut gates, doors etc. Am sorry this happened. Give my love and lots of hugs to Marty and will share this post. x x

Lesley Oxspring hi Leslie, thanks so much for stopping by, always good to see you here. Yes, it’s really important that all dogs are safe and secure because it’s so easy for them to get out and they could be injured as well as potentially injuring other people depending on the breed and type of dog. in my case, my friend who was there by the grace of God said that there was no owner in sight, which frustrated me even more because I would have liked to have explained the impact it can have on a guide dog and the owner if the dog did have to retire due to nervousness around dogs or if they were actually physically injured. The message for me to many people please contain your dogs at home and if out and about walking, please keep them on Leeds and if they are known to have issues with other dogs, it’s always best to keep them on lead even when out in a field for the safety of others. Just a simple request.

Oh Sibby, I can say another story here. I was waiting to meet Sean at Westminster Station to discuss assistance dogs. Hence why I owe you both a couple of beers. I was standing on the underground with Ottie, when suddenly a fuude dog dragged his handler over to me. I moved Ottie out of the way and step forward. The dog calmed down, he was over excited. All this was bring watched by 2 underground staff. Then the guide dog hander said " have you got a dog" I responded "yes, I have an assistance dog". I then asked if he was Sean. I told Sean all this when he did arrive. I also worry about psychological effect on Ottie, but guide dogs do not approve of owner trained, I'm not talking about it on social media, so when we do meet I will tell you about the politics I'm getting fed up with little yappy dogs that circle Ottie, and their pathetic owners that say nothing or think its allowed
