As a healthcare professional (I’m a Pharmacist) and as a woman who has suffered with hair loss, I highly, highly recommend seeing a doctor and having some lab work done. Hormonal imbalances, thyroid issues, anemia, vitamin deficiencies, adrenal/cortisol issues, etc... can all cause hair loss or an increase in hair fall and for the most part can be detected by having some bloodwork done. If you have noticed major scalp changes like resistant dandruff, plague build ups, natural hair oil smelling off or different, then you may want to consider seeing a dermatologist. If you haven’t noticed a change in the integrity of your scalp (the actual skin) and the primary symptom is hair loss, than I would recommend seeing a regular doctor before a dermatologist. Hope that made sense or helped. Mine essentially ended up being caused by a hormone imbalance from ovarian cysts that I wasn’t aware I even had and also from my anemia which wasn’t being adequately treated at the time. Also stress. Stress is one of the most common causes because it causes our cortisol levels to increase which signals our body to divert attention (nutrients, blood flow, etc..) away from our hair follicles (because they are not necessary for survival) as our body goes into more of a protective mode to deal with the stress. Some people have a really tough time understanding how such profound physical changes can occur from mental/emotional stress. But Our bodies don’t have a way to determine what the actual stressor is (if it’s a life-threatening Illness or is it mental stress?). It just sees the changes in our levels of cortisol, hormones, and neurotransmitters. Mental/emotional stress can cause our levels to change the same way as a major illness or injury. The wonderful news is that those side effects, like hair loss, are reversible once our stress levels return to baseline. I hope you can find some comfort and reassurance in knowing that. Best wishes. Let me know if you have any questions or if I can help in any way.

I really agree that consulting a doctor and checking out possible medical issues is an important starting point to rule out anything first on that level. I lose lots of hair with stress, and it sounds like many of the people who commented find that to be true also. You’ve really been through a lot although you really keep it low key. I think the most important thing to find out if you can is what’s causing it. Good luck, Bailey! It isn’t a small thing; hair health is a big deal.

Hi Bailey! I had this issue around 18 months ago. My hair was shredding way, way more than normal and my hair line was legit receding in spots. It really bummed me out. I probably would have just lived with it/tried tons of hair products but one of my friends encouraged me to talk with a doctor about it. The first doctor was dismissive which pissed me off. The second doctor told me I was just stressed out which also pissed me off because it wasn't a stressful time in my life (outside of losing my dang hair). The third doctor listened to me and ran blood tests and checked my hormones. Turns out my hormone levels were way, way out of wack. Fixing that issue not only helped with the hair but I few other odd things I thought were just part of getting older (I was 32 at the time). I know going to the doctor is a little scary right now and our cases could be/probably are different but please consider getting bloodwork done. Losing tons of hair out of the blue isn't "normal". It could be a very treatable underlying issue. Getting a general checkup with blood work to make sure all your levels are within normal is a good thing to do anyway. Just a suggestion on what helped me. Now I have to deal with annoying baby hair growth but I won't complain about that! I'm so sorry you're dealing with this and I hope you get it figured out soo. Thanks for sharing!

First, let me say that you're hair still looks great. I would never think it was thinning / thin. You also definitely do not need a wig. I can totally understand your concern though because I've not only dealt with thinning hair, but I've also lost all of my hair during chemotherapy. Needless-to-say, having my hair thin after that was particularly worrisome. There was a time over many months (maybe even a year or two) where my hair definitely thinned and it's still thinner than it used to be. I went to multiple doctors about it and the biggest reason they mentioned was stress. My Mom also lost a lot of hair after emergency surgery partly from the stress. Good news on my Mom - it DID come back. Losing hair can go on for months because it grows in cycles. Whatever the underlying cause, it may take multiple hair cycles to notice a difference - either thinning or growth. I know, frustrating. I'm not a doctor, but some causes other than stress can be hormonal, low iron levels, vitamin deficiencies, a number of health conditions, and sadly just getting older. If you're really concerned about it, I would talk to a doctor and at least try to get some bloodwork done to rule out any kind of underlying health issue. If you're looking to help your hair look and feel thicker, most people swear by mousse. I find that it helps give volume at the roots, but the rest of my hair can still feel limp and stringy. What I've found that actually makes the lengths of my hair look and feel thicker is the Amika Thicc Volumizing Base. It's a cream and you need a tiny amount even for long hair. I feel like the secret to this stuff is that you DON'T put it on your roots. It's applied to damp hair, and I take maybe between a dime to a nickel size amount and run it through the lengths of my hair. Sometimes I'll add a bit more, but not always. I usually brush my hair with a Tangle Teezer or a Wet Brush after applying it just to smooth any tangles out, but it's probably not necessary. Then I let it air dry and will often curl or flat iron it later. It can make your hair dry a little crunchy and it may feel like it's a tangly mess while it's still damp, but once you brush it when it's dry, you can't feel anything but thicker feeling hair. There's a learning curve to the Amika stuff, but it is literally the only thing I've found that makes a difference - and the thicker feeling will even last a few days. NOTHING does that! Another recommendation that I haven't used in a long time, but I remember making a difference was Living Proof's FULL Line. The thickening shampoo and conditioner specifically. Their Thickening Cream can make hair look and feel thicker too, but it doesn't last like the Amika. I wish I had some less expensive recommendations for you, but other than inexpensive mousse (I'm currently using the Not Your Mother's), I haven't found much. Good luck with everything! I'm not a doctor, but if I had to guess from everything you've been going through recently and just 2020 in general, it's likely due to stress. I would definitely go to a doctor just to make sure you're not missing some other problem too. I hope your new job is going well and you're getting settled in your new home! Hugs!!!

I've always had thin hair but becoming an adult and having to deal with stress on my daily life i've been experiencing having less hair. I've tried a lot of things, some work, some don't. Everyone is diferent. But what really works for me is sleeping well and enough hours and eating well. When my hair starts freaking out I use the nioxin pack. Good luck! :)

I have no advice but it is a coincidence b/c I’m going to the Dr tomorrow just for this reason. I started noticing earlier in the year and then my hair dresser mentioned it to me. She could see A LOT of my scalp. And now I can tell when I put my air in a bun I can see spots towards the back, top of my head. I’m so sad as well. I’m sure I’ll have to get blood work done to check thyroid and other deficiencies. If everything goes ok I’ll go the collagen route. Or whatever my dr suggests ☺️ I jotted down a few things you mentioned. Please keep us updated!

Uggggg I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I've been struggling with lots of hair loss this year too. It's no fun at all. Mine is likely stress and postpartum related and falling out at a startling rate.

So sorry you are going through this, I am dealing with the same issue and it is so depressing. Everytime I shower or run my fingers through it comes out in clumps for months now. My dr thinks its stress but who knows. I have been taking collagen and biotin and have noticed lots of baby hairs coming so I believe its working. I would def reccomend getting a blood test to check all your levels. You are not alone hope you get some answers.

I've dealt with this off and on for years. I'm pretty sure it started when I went on the birth control pill, and then gets worsened by stress. I'm nervous to go off the pill since any change in hormones can make it worse and hair loss is a known side effect of basically all birth controls. I'm noticing it happening to me again the past few weeks, which lines up with the start of the pandemic and a few other stressful life things for me since hair loss is delayed about 6 months. I have naturally wavy/curly hair and started doing the curly girl method a few months ago. I don't think it has helped my hair thinning, but my hair has never been healthier. Keep in mind that it is normal to lose 50-100 hairs a day, and if you go several days without washing your hair, wash day might seem like you're losing it all in one day. I notice it seems worse if I've had my hair up for a couple days since the hair isn't able to fall naturally. The only product I've tried is the Ordinary Hair Density Serum, which I think does help new hair grow, I'm just not sure if it's helping with shedding. I'd recommend trying to see a GP and dermatologist to make sure there isn't anything else going on. Good luck and keep us updated! You aren't alone!

I agree with birth control!! I have always have very thick wavy/curly hair and it’s gotten to where I can’t French braid my hair bc when my hair is tugged apart you see straight scalp. I’ve been on birth control for forever and combined with stress (I’m hoping and nothing medical) I stopped taking my birth control very recently hoping that it will help.

Addie R I went off of it once before for a few months and I didn’t notice any bad side effects that I remember. I’ve been on the pill for 5 years almost and I feel like after that long I need to give it a break and possibly switch to something else after a long break.

I am on the tail end of dealing with this. Go to your GP & ask for blood tests to check all your levels. My GP initially thought it was probably stress related (she told me she is seeing so much more of this right now), but mine ended up being PCOS. Vitamin B helps stop my hair from falling out & she suggested that I probably just continue taking it forever, but I'm also on medication to address my hormone imbalance which is the ultimate cause of my hair loss. A lot of curly girls are losing their hair as well, I personally (along with a few professionals who have commented on it) think it's because of the method. You need to really clean your scalp. You can use a hair oil on your hair, or a hair mask, then put a shower cap on & leave it for an hour or two (I like to do this when I'm on the treadmill to add some extra heat without getting my blow dryer out). I would also suggest styling your hair less, at least until you get this all figured out, just let your waves flow. & switch up your part regularly. Also Penny Smith did a great video on what she is doing, though some of her suggestions involve pricy tech: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKjJn2V9l7ZjjKM

I watched penny’s video and it was great!... I’m actually going to purchase a micro needle and use with the grande hair serum until I can save up enough for my LED light machine. I’m 40 so I feel like my issues are just aging which is why I think LED is the way to go
@jamieferguson31314 жыл бұрын
@@melissalavender7648 I'm going to get an LED machine for Christmas. It's multi use so I feel like that is tech worth buying! I'm also looking into a micro needle, & i think i'm going to get the ordinary peptide serum...or look into the inkey list ones.

I have been having similar issues .. I have had great results with taking 2 supplements:1)Biotin 10,000mcg and 2)collagen, I use Dr.Axe powdered version, there is no taste so I mix it into juice at night before bed. It aids in restful sleep, as well as many other health benefits. I was greying, that REVERSED 😆 I was dying my hair and now i dont have to and my hair loss slowed down ,then my hair started growing back. It is thicker than it has been in years. The supplements work. SERIOUSLY. Good luck. You look wonderful.thanks for posting and sharing, hair loss affects many women. Hang in there don't give up.👍💞☺

I’m sorry you are going through this! I have also struggled with my hair thinning. (Due to stress, pulling it out in my sleep, and health concerns including autoimmune and mold illness.) I wonder if you are dealing with any other health concerns. If this started when you moved apartments, maybe check and see if there is mold or water damage in your apartment. There are so many things that can cause hair loss or thinning. It could be nothing, normal aging, hormone changes, loss of collagen. Or it could be a symptom of something more serious. And obviously I recommend you ask your doctor. Best of luck and keep up posted.. try your best not to get discouraged :)

I have battled the whole year. I have tried so many products. I had to cut my hair into a bob and my hair was pretty long to start with and this helped. Now, I just wait for it to grow back. I do a multi vitamin, biotin, zinc, and collagen. Oribe was the product that really helped me. Expensive, but it worked better than anything else. It’s beyond frustrating. I figure my hair will be normal in two years. It’s absolutely devastating. I have developed such empathy who has to experience losing their hair. Stay strong and know you’re not alone.

I have always had pretty thick hair. Twice in my life it fell out like crazy. My ponytail was so thin!!! I just couldn't believe it. Back when it happened the first time my doctor said it was normal and because I had already had all the children I planned on having he prescribed female Rogaine. But my insurance didn't cover it and I never was able to afford it at that time. Anyway after a few months my hair finally stopped falling out and little by little my hair just started to get a bit thicker over time. That was when I was around 32 years old. I had been through a divorce and cancer so yes probably stress related. The second time it wasn't as drastic and it was about when I was 50. I am now almost 62 and my hair has gotten thick again but not as thick as when I was young. I know I don't have any concrete advice but more just encouragement that it can happen and it can resolve itself. Of course check with your doctor! I know the feeling of panic and worry but I hope it is similar to what happened to me and it stops and starts to grow back again. Take care! P.S. How are you handling the weather? Is it cold yet?

I used to always have the thickest and longest hair all my life and then when I turned 18 I found out I had quite a few health issues that over the years I’ve lost about 80% of my hair from medications, the several autoimmune diseases I have but I also have a thyroid that doesn’t properly work. Every time I wash my hair it just falls out in clumps. I’ve definitely cried my fair share over it over the years and I spent so much money trying to buy things that help with hair growth but nothing worked so a few years ago I just started wearing wigs whenever I leave the house. I can’t afford those $1000+ wigs so I buy different ones on amazon at a decent price with decent reviews. Some are beautiful and some are obviously very fake looking. It definitely has helped my confidence but I miss my hair so much, I’ve only just turned 36 and I’ve been “Charlie brown” hair for at least 6-8 years now. My 65 year old father in law has more hair than me lol Yours very well could be stress but maybe also make a doctor appointment and get some blood work done to check your thyroid and just the basics? Can’t hurt to rule that out. I hope you find a solution to this ♥️

My hair has been falling out too. I recently went to the dermatologist. They put me on some medication that slows the phase in the hair growth cycle where the hair falls out. They diagnosed it and it’s called something I just can’t remember what it is. I’ve been taking the medicine for a couple months and it’s starting to work. The dr told me that it takes a couple months to notice changes. I recommend finding a dermatologist and making an appt. I bought all the hair things from the store and nothing helped. I do know collagen has lots of good benefits, so it couldn’t hurt. And just because I worked for a dermatologist for 8 years...the MA in me says you may want to make an appointment with a dermatologist to see if they have any prescription strength medication options for you, or if you should test for alopecia, just to make sure it doesn’t have something to do with your immune-system. Just for peace of mind if nothing else!

If you feel like your hair is feeling thinner or you're having thinner patches, maybe you should consider going to the doctors' to check if you're not lacking any vitamines?

Hi, I too have struggled with hair shedding. I am a Hairdresser. Look up Telogen Effluvium. Hair loss due to stress, diet, hormones, weight loss, post partum... It will settle down, it is diffused thinning and you will not get bald spots. Once hair follicles go into the shedding stage you can't unring the bell. Your dermatologist can give you a steroid shot to calm down follicles and even a shampoo to calm down follicles. I would get a shorter cut to thicken up and help new growth catch up. I love Truth Treatment supplements. Seriously dont waste money on gimmicks. SEE your Dermatologist.
