I agree we do need quality programming, I miss the college tours, teen summit, and other positive shows that depicted black people in a better ligt. BET doesn't need to jump on the reality band wagon, they need take on the role of enlightening our children and the world on how strong and beautiful our people are. Set up a talk show where we talk about politics, music, news etc. keep our people informed on black issues!!! I've lost respect for the network but these changes will definitely be step closer to actual growth...

I'm literally going through my tv guide on BET, and literally it looks like this... Real Husbands of Hollywood 5x's Fresh prince of Bel-Air, Fresh prince of Bel-Air 35 & Ticking (movie) Dysfunctional Friends (movie) The Game, The game, The Game, The Game, The Game, The game Madea movie, Another Madea movie The game, The Game, The Game Real Husbands of Hollywood, Real Husbands of Hollywood Comic view Peter Popoff.... Like its so much talent out there in the black youtube, vine, instagram world idk why BET haven't reached out to ppl like DC young fly and King boch and so many more. I would love to see a black Dating show or two, another college show, a couple of music programs, maybe a ratchet baby mothers show. (Not saying all baby mommas are ratchet) but a single mothers show with gossip and adorable baby's and custody battles. A show like MTV's "true life" but a black version. Maybe a fitness program. A celebrity gossip show. A cooking show, A show with a bunch of young adults is Cancun, South Beach, Atl, Cali, in a house being irresponsible and partying and drama. Kinda like Jersey shore. A poetry show. A black talent show ( if ppl are still into talent shows). A late night talkshow about sex, with women sitting around talking about sexual experiences, and sexual opinions and views, and people call in to discuss topics and get advice. Maybe a shows about black motorcycle bikers.

Everything you said about the Viacom conspiracy were the exact things my friend and I said in college...back when BET was acquired. To me, the downward spiral started when they changed the formatting of Teen Summit. The show went from "Kicking the Truth to the Young Black Youth" to "All About the Bling Bling". Then there was the Free and AJ departure and the cancellation of Oh Drama (which could have been a good competitor for The View if more effort was put into it). I would love to know Bob Johnson's views on BET now. I read somewhere that his ex-wife Sheila was disgusted and ashamed.

Yesss !!! Plus, what 18-25 year old is really sitting down and watching TV. I'm 20 and I have so much going on that I have to record shows. Only during the summer, I get to catch up with new shows. Look at the people tweeting about shows. It's usually high schoolers and people in their late 20s. I haven't watched BET in forever, and even when I did, it was only one show. They have the most basic non-thought provoking scripts and it's obviously they don't care about putting these programs together.

Even the BET Awards are snoozefest when it used be considered the "Black Grammys". BET, however, has had some good ideas, BUT, for whatever reason, they didn't stick with it or didn't develop it properly like The Monique Show, Model City, Apollo Live, etc... I miss the days of Teen Summit, ComicView, Baldwin Hills, College Hill, Planet Groove, Lyric Cafe, Midnight Love, Caribbean Rhythms, Rap City, Video Soul, etc... Besides, BMJ, Sunday's Best, It's a Mann's World, Real Husbands of Hollywood, Nellyville, Being, & As Written (last 2 are on Centric), there's nothing to really watch on BET. Truth be told, BET needs to get better because they're wearing worse THE HELL OUT!!

The best thing BET has going is Being Mary Jane. On one hand the show is really good, but at the same time I understand why a lot of ppl may not get into it. When the season ended I even tweeted BET asking why they didn't have another show lined up for that time slot to catch those residual ratings from their highest rated show in years. No offense, but we all know how old uppity black ppl think and act about change. Like Funky Dineva said, there's a whole bunch of old minded ppl over there with a lil too much pride over at BET. TVone is doing great with their original programming and original movies. They are putting a ton of our black actors to work. OWN Network struggled for a couple years but they turned it around quick. Oprah knows how to give you the positive with just a lil ratchet thrown in there. So it can be done. I grew up on BET in the 90s. You could watch it all day back then. I hope they do hire you as a consultant to turn it around. That may be your real calling.

I would love to see BET Own. or tv1 produce a black shopping show like a qvc or hsn. It would be great to give AA a platform to sell their products. A great pool of talent to pull from is right here on You Tube. To name a couple, check out Mo Knows Hair, or Roots 45. Rarely do you see AA products being sold on QVC or HSN.

I can't support BET because I feel, with the exception of Nelly's show and It's a Mann's World and even BMJ, BET does nothing to show the black community in a positive light. This network used to give black people pride and hope. Seeing the litany of blacks on tv was something we looked forward to. Then as a young girl I saw that I could be more than just another statistic with shows like the black teen summit and college hill. Bet used to show HBCU football games when no one else would. We got to see us represented in a way that no other station would venture to. We saw us as educated and educators but now all I see is ratchet mess. Also it helped our black music succeed. R&B music is damn near dead now and the direction BET has taken is partly to blame. There used to be so much music and music exposure on BET that you had no choice but to be invested. I could go on and on but I'll write a book by the time I'm done. Thank you for this video!

Centric plays all of the shows that people want to see on BET. All of the classic old shows. And Dineva is right. young doesn't always mean right. The other problem is that BET isn't black owned. BET definitely gets treated like the stepchild, and you have a lot of people who don't know what black people will actually watch.

You are soooo right. Growing up I associated BET with music videos, the youth being socially aware, and current news that effects everybody no matter your age or color. That being said Sisterhood of Hip Hop should have positively been a BET program being that's how, in my eyes, that network got it's popularity...through the peoples love of Hip Hop and it being the ONLY network showing true Hip Hop. The definitely missed the mark there and Empire too. When I heard about both of these shows my first response was, "Awww shit, on BET right?" and their response was "NAW!!!" and I was like "WHOA!!!!" I've been saying this for the longest time. Honestly BET could make everything easy. In the morning when everyone is up their viewer are heading to school or work put on a news show centered around black news. In the afternoon when the average young person comes home, put on a show like 106&park or even a newer version of A Different world! Something that relates to them. Then in the evening put on a good reality show about upcoming artists or writers. They need to start somewhere instead of waiting for a miracle! It ain't coming!

I have to agree with you on this one. We pay a substantial amount of money monthly to have access to cable TV to be able to tune into the BET Network. WE DESERVE WAY MORE AND WAY BETTER!!!
