We've all been suffering from quarantine hair, so I was delighted to get to visit my friend and hairy godmother Aspen Rae at her salon Carson & Co to turn myself blonde again and get a much-needed trim! To make things more exciting, I asked you guys on Instagram if you had questions for Aspen, so we did a full hair Q&A with my professional hairdresser. Hopefully this helps you on your natural hair journey to achieve whatever hair length and look you hope to achieve!

I’m really glad I found you on KZbin. I’ve been exploring for the best possible haircare ever since I got a bob, but, as you can tell from the videos you reacted to, it’s hard to type stuff on KZbin without getting a bunch of crazy stuff. Before I had a bob I had hair down to my ribs and it never got longer than that. It’s been four months since I got the bob and now my hair is to my shoulders. I’m hoping to have it waist length in a couple years.

I have waist length hair now; it's been a long four years but it was so worth it when I grew out all the damage. The haircut I got in January, she literally hacked at my hair and it was 3-4 inches shorter underneath on the one side than the rest. It was actually devastating because it was so noticible. It's October now and it's only just grown back fully as my hair grows so slowly! 😭

Ask for a "dusting" which is like the barest minimum you can take off. I've legit gone to hairstylists before and said "I don't care if there's still some split ends, I don't want any more off than an inch". If you get it cut just be very clear to take off the barest amount possible. I know everyone says you should get your hair cut every 3 months or so, but I grew my hair down to my waist several times and I only cut it every 6 months.

Do you know, or can you ask your hair dresser what is your natural color and level? It looks like mine looked when I swam a lot, then let it grow out. I'd like to go back to that level of darkness and highlight. It looks golden, but you seem to have cool skin tones, and maybe she is giving you cool highlights.

her hair is light to begin with. It doesn't take much bleach to make it blonde and therefore her hair isnt as damaged by the process. She doest use heat on her her und brushes and handles it gently. She wears a satin cap to sleep or a satin pillow case. She is careful about what products she uses and so on...

@kajcenkars
@kajcenkars 3 жыл бұрын
Genetics play a big role in how strong your hair is - and what the hair is able to survive. When it comes to bleach, it depends on the structure and natural colour of your hair. When I bleached my hair for the first time, I had a dark brown hair (it was coloured), which is lots of red pigment that stays in the hair for a LONG time. If I had the hair bleached same as the girl in this video, I would burn it. Thus my hairdresser only bleached it the way he could while maintaining the healthy structure of the hair. In this video, there's not much bleach used, she actually only lightens the hair on "the outside" and when you look at the result it's apparent only the pieces framing her face are bleached more, while the back of her head is bleached minimally (and tbh it's not even - meaning she didn't put enough bleach where it was supposed to be). Her ends, on the other side, are visibly bleached and I think it is apparent that they were bleached - natural hair really looks different, you can also see that her ends are not as strong as the rest of her hair, either because of the trim she had, or because of the bleach, or the combination of these two. Also videos are not a trustworthy representation of reality, meaning her hair looks better in the video than in real life. You can get better hair if you take good care of it; however, you cannot change its structure and you cannot change genetics. Do what you can do:))

Sarah Ingle, first of all, your videos have been the exact answer to the questions I have had for sooo long!! I appreciate your science-based research and information you so cleverly and eloquently share!! Now I feel like I am not stepping out into the dark just trying random things that might or might not work for me. Secondly, I do have a specific question regarding something that was said in this specific video: I have been trying to grow my bair back for years and my hair never gets past a certain length.. So I hate trimming it because I feel like all my progress is getting chopped off!! But (now) I know it is one of the things that needs to be done regularly if I want it to grow long. So my questions is: Can my dry, split ends (like a good 4 inches of them😣) be somewhat restored if I try to implement healthy hair habits now? As in, should I avoid trimming them completely off and try to grow my hair out with many of your helpful tips for healthy, long hair? Or should I chop off the bad, brittle, thin ends and try to grow my hair out "from scratch" leaving only the healthier length of my hair to start from?

Yesterday, I have my virgin brunette hair done in balayage at 20 years old. My experience was excited of dreaming about my hair blond and nervous for how it could take. 13:15 everything started with the towel, cloak and plastic around my neck. Sections from back and 2 sides of hair: The back took long for taking small pieces to brush bleach and lift the colour and adding each one with "styrofoam". The weight of it was almost hurting my bottom for the process, just like sitting in final exams. Once all of my hair was dyed and covered, I needed to get up and everyone reassured me about the process time being long. My mom came around to buy me sushi as lunch while everything was lifting nicely. When it was time to rinse, it was a massive relief to wash and massage my day 7 scalp. While it was happening, the lady kept saying that my hair is really beautiful which urges me for to see it. After conditioning, it had to be toned, because it first looked like light caramel. When I got out of the basin with an aching neck, my excitement for the final result grew. Blow drying and curling my hair have always made me feel beautiful as on the inside. The moment I looked at the back mirror for my blond curled ends, I was over the moon that I almost cried. Then came the trial for my prom hairstyle: I'm having an extended, curled up side ponytail with a little crown in the top! My idea is my brown roots will fall down to blond where I look like a Disney princess with my pink and black dress. This is the story of my first hair dye session!

I've never had my hair done! But if I did, I like your style! Curled. I think I like curled better. But really, I like both.

I haven't had a haircut in over a year, because, frankly, I haven't had hair. It is growing back and I can't wait to finally be able to style it.

What if you have damage/split ends on layers in the middle of the head??
@undercovercat9865
@undercovercat9865 4 жыл бұрын
The search and destroy method (individually cutting splits) is really the only way to deal with those. I disagree with the hairdresser about trimms being the better option. Imo search and destroy is the only thing that is nessesary if you want to deal with splits. Trimms and microtrimms are just to keep a certain style or look. (Fairy tail ends vs blunt ends etc)

Ya I was wondering why they were against trimming split ends yourself? I don’t see anything wrong with that...and then you’re able to go longer in between cuts, which is saving you money
