Harvey lives a few miles down the road from me and we share several friends, which has resulted in he and I chewing the fat on a fairly regular basis. During these little chats it has become apparent that he is a top notch guy, completely free from any airs and graces, kindly natured and possessing a fine sense of humour. Rock on Harvey.

Ginger baker claims he never got paid in hawkwind so it was a bad experience for him , the yank who did the documentary film of baker (with ginger hitting him bad with his crutch !)didn't want to mention his hawkwind time .I'm reading the huge book The saga of Hawkwind only now available to read on line e books which I'm interested in the many grudges of the sacked ones over them year

I've seen Harvey many times with Hawkwind/Hawklords and met him a couple of times in the late '80s. He seemed like a top gent and it's nice to have that impression confirmed here. As for Baker's foolish remark, take a listen to 'Free Fall'. The bass part is superb - the spacious, airy opening, the nervy, restless middle section a perfect match for Calvert's lyric and then a reprise of the first part as a gentle float down to Earth at the close. and it's performed to perfection. A masterclass in bass playing.

I enjoyed that. First Hawkwind gig was in 1980 on the Levitation tour and I saw them for at least 10 years in a row after later catching them with Ron Tree (which may have been my last, can't remember now). Glad to have seen these shows with Harvey and especially Huw Lloyd Langton. Insightful interview and a lovely atmosphere for an informal chat about Harvey's career.

I saw Havey play with Hawkwind on many occasions but the first time in Aylesbury was the most memorable because I ate Fly Agaric muchrooms for the first and only time (far stronger than Liberty Caps). I thought Havey's hair was on fire and spent most of the gig trying to get on stage to warn him. I finally mounted the stage to put it out and threw my pint over the imagined flames, missing him entirely and soaking a very disgrutled roady. This roadie was rather a sweetie and allowed me to stand at the side of the stage Most amazing visuals ever!!!!

saw hawkwind at Nottingham on the 'choose your masques' tour 82.... (saw them a lot from 81 to 84....) after a skin full of beer at the tap and tumbler.... and a bunch of mushrooms - I thought the devil horns Harvey was wearing were real/part of him....i think he had a tail as well....and the T.V's behind the stage were sucking me in....(but in a good way).... little mini beings like sprites were on the stage and did ring-o-roses and danced to the songs.... time for a lie down....fuck knows how I got home....probably walked....

When I was 18 I remember seeing Harvey at said Glastonbury walking around the site on his own and he looked like he had been up for weeks, and the mud that year!!! God it was brilliant. Tried my first microdot. It was truly amazing. And muddy. Went 4 or 5 times from 88 or 89 onwards. What an adventure trying to get in. Through the travellers site and jumping over huge metal fences. Learned never to arrange to meet anyone at a certain times... it will never happen. To much to do to much to see...

Ginger slagged off Harvey - but Harvey turned out to be a multi instrumentalist. The Yamaha synth he refers to was likely the CS-80. Then you got the Prophet-5 and Jupiter-8, etc. I saw a picture in a book of Harvey with a Roland Jupiter-8. When I heard Sonic Attack album at my mate's house I liked the keyboards and wondered who the new keyboard player was - and it was mostly Harvey!

Sad thing is that Hawkwind's performance at Glastonbury was not a full set. New Orde went on too late, and Hakwibd had the plug pulled on them at midnight. No, that Glastonbury was NOT muddy. The weathe was great the whole weekend. Not a drop of rain. And only about 5,000 people.

It says that on the Levitation 3CD set sleeve notes by Brian Tawn. The best drummer in the world being sacked by the worst bass player in the world. Evidently Ginger's ego was not happy to be pushed out. And Harvey just said he would have been willing to go. What a gentleman.
