I completely resonate with your story Alex. I’ve recently stopped drinking alcohol completely and it’s completely changed my life. You don’t realise the effect alcohol has on you until you truly cut it out completely and utterly. I used to drink frequently to suppress my feelings and I still struggle making it out my room everyday. But not drinking alcohol has drastically improved my productivity in terms of setting goals, at work and also enabling me to realise that change is needed. Now I have started taking those positive steps towards making change as a result. Stopping the consumption of alcohol brought back realisation. Realisation that the behaviour I was displaying and the lack of judgement was hindering my everyday life. My changes may only be small but I have definitely achieved more this year than I did in the last 10 years of my life.

I’m stuck in a complete dark hole of a rut atm, I’ve a herniated disc in my back and apart from walking my dogs I’m not even sure what kind of exercise I can do. I’m hating life right now, my life fell apart in 2016 when I found out my husband was cheating on me and within 6mts I lost a husband a house and one of my dogs died. Things were ok for a while when I was on my own but now I’m a severe deep dark hole and have no idea how to climb out of it. There is no real answer for my back issue only constant injections/epidurals etc. that don’t ever work. I live in constant pain every day and have been for 8yrs straight, I don’t even want to go on anymore, I get up every day for my dogs and if i didn’t have them I don’t think I’d be here. Any advice on how to motivate yourself, how to face the horrible winter ahead with trying to exercise?. I’m not sure where to start? I don’t have much money so being in the public system waiting for some form of therapy takes forever and I can’t afford private therapy. (I’m in Ireland). Trying to get help in this messed up medical system feels futile. So glad your doing better.

Thanks for being so real; at the moment I’m really struggling emotionally, feeling lost and disconnected from myself, which is totally horrible feeling extremely numbing. Glad you doing better xx

You look healthy, complexion is clear. Being conscious of life around me is important. I can now accept the down days because they do pass. It makes the good days really good. I gave up alcohol 2 years ago, real benefit of that means more physical energy and more time to feel awake and motivated. I walk. I truly love walking now. I have to walk everyday. I’ve since found I am reading so many books and they allow me to sleep better. I am not anti alcohol at all, but for me it was taking time away from me and affecting my sleep and concentration. Stopping booze helped me manage my diet and food choices. Like you I don’t intend to weigh myself. At a guess my weight is correct for my height. I like this feeling, my clothes fit better now. Glad you are progressing. Life is challenging and needs constant care. Every day is different. We should accept that, most of us try to just do our best. Take care and value yourself. Cant have been easy for you and your family losing your younger brother. ❤

Alex, if you haven’t yet come across Jessie Inchauspé’s Glucose Revolution & also Method, it’s pretty amazing. It’s about how harmful glucose spikes are to us and how we can minimise & flatten them. In short you make your breakfast a savoury meal only, you exercise after each meal (doesn’t have to be a great workout, can be a walk or chores around the home/garden), you eat what you normally eat but change the order so that it’s veggies first, then proteins & fats & finally carbs (starches & sugars) & finally you have a tablespoon of vinegar before a meal where you are having carbs, maybe in a glass of water or over your salad. There’s no calorie counting! She’s on KZbin as well, interviews etc. Truly worth looking at since the glucose spikes can be at the root of many, many of our conditions, illnesses & diseases xx

Not being 'reverse ageist' here, but am twice your age and still find it almost impossible to stop drinking and stop evening snacking. I know you have a book on this area, but I seem to do better with audio/hypnosis type stuff. I ebb and flow with the subject, motivation, discipline etc., and have a great run of days on the Mettle app too! But now looking to revisit the nutrition side and get on top of it. Drinking I can take or leave actually, but the evening snacking/sweet tooth are things I would love to finally crack. I have about a stone or so to shift.
