He wanted her to be a "stay at home mom", didn't want his wife to have the fame that would come from performing this song. Kurt crushed Kelly Clarkson and derailed her career completely. I love both versions this song. Both portrays Rose in a way the other doesn't. Celine's version has alot of Rose's pain and sorrow. In this one, you can actually feel the longing to be with Jack again that Rose felt her entire life afterward. Also you can really hear the guy with the phone sniffling and crying in the background

James Cameron actually wanted her to sing the official version. Studio forced him to choose someone more well known. Not dissing on Celine but I definitely love Sissel's voice a lot more. Extremely heavenly.

Sony music got Celine on board,but the fact that James Horner, got Siessel to sing it during the premiere, indicates his choice. He must have recorded her version,which must be private. ALL of the discussions on this post regarding WHO sang the song better, Sissel or Celine (based on THIS video) are pointless and ridiculous. This is a recording of Sissel live (I am given to understand), recorded on a cell phone, in a huge auditorium, a considerable distance away from the singer. The soundtrack version, sung by Celine, was done in a studio with ALL of the available electronic and acoustic enhancements needed. How can there POSSIBLY be any comparison as to the respective quality of the singers and their voice ??? 🤔🤨😪😪

This. I by far prefer this version to Celine's (as much as I love Celine as a singer). It's so emotional, soulful, so full of longing that it just fits the movie better. Even when I watched the Titanic for the first time when it was first released, I'd found Celine's vocals to be a bit too powerful for how the movie ended - gently, softly, with a sense of relief that in a way, Rose was finally home.

Vast numbers (yours truly included) feel that Sissel's overall talent VASTLY overshadows that of Celine Dion. Unfortunately, Sissel lacked the 3 items mentioned above. However, I don't think that we should cry on Sissel's behalf, for I don't think that she was crying herself. When she was 18, Sissel was offered an option to move to the USA and be manufactured into a "Big Star". She herself made the choice to decline, and to be her own person and guide her own star and destiny, rather than selling her soul to the "American Music Machine" !!
