A much requested video. Since it's been about 5 weeks since I was injured [3 partial tears in my sticking arm] I've been given an OK from the doctor to start playing again [within reason of course].

Most favorite colour combination speckled pale green and faded pink. When it comes to wood I am far more interested in the colours of the wood itself, prefering oils and varnish that brings forth the grain and ring colouration, some woods burnished is lovely.

I don’t mean to be a shmimble but every modern drum with tape and tuners are trying to be like a Seamus Okane but their head systems are so tight their all restrictive in their echoing sustain.

Well that's pretty much it. He started the craze but I've found a few differences, and most of them lay in 3 areas: The bearing Edge and how each maker prepares it I find determines a lot of the "pop" sounds. Couple that with the skin prep and profile of the tuning rim. One of the best tuning rims I played was on an old Waltons, but the skin was average. A reskinning fixed that drum and I sold it a year later after it was broken in. The last area would be how much space sits between tuning rim and the frame. You'd be surprised some drums have a lot of space between them.

Have you played Shaw percussion Bodhrans?
@shaalis4 жыл бұрын
Yes! Well built. Very beautiful to look at as well. Skins are good quality and the family is one of a few who recently got into adding bodhran to their lineup of drums.

Hey there, do you have a list of tippers that you utilize?
@shaalis3 жыл бұрын
We;; yes and no. I used a few custom made tippers and a few tippers you can buy readily from a music store. For the factory tippers, I use a LOS CABOS Sean Mcann tipper. It's a bit light so I added weight to it, but it belts and it is easy to control. As for other tippers, my dowel tippers are from Steve Moises [snakewood tippers] and from a Canadian man named Jim hunter at Hunter Tippers. He's out of the Ottawa Valley region and he made my Lugnum Vitae and Pink Ivory [it's a wood species] tippers. They are amazing. I also use a long rod 28CM poplar dowel tipper that I made while trying to nail the Ronan O Snodaigh sound.
