This episode made me cry my eyes out like wtf. I always liked All Might more, but Endeavor and Todoroki were such real and visceral character that I couldn't help but get emotional for their family and backstory, because it reminds me of real life events that are similar if not more tragic because not every story like this can end with a happy ending with everyone alive and together.

The idea behind Dabi having Rei's quirk is that he acquired it during his fight with Shoto. When he got back up he could somehow use Phosphor like Shoto only he used it to further magnify his own heat instead of cold. I would assume that was the moment when he unlocked Rei's quirk since it's the combination of Rei and Endeavor's quirks that creates Phosphor. And yes, that "Dad, look!" broke my heart. It immediately cuts back to Endeavor remembering Toya as a child begging for his attention. Something as simple as having his family really see him, to watch him as he watches them, to look his way at all; Dabi's felt so ignored and starved for his family's attention and approval that his only want was something so simple. The episode even opens with people evacuating and the authorities shouting "Don't look at Dabi!"

Yeah, this is the hardest I’ve cried in a while. Beforehand, Shoto was called the “hero of the family,” and after this, yeah, he absolutely is. Not that he wasn’t before. And honestly, for as horrific of a person as Touya has become, I think it’s only right for him to be saved by the family and make sure he doesn’t game end himself. It was great timing too since Endeavor had just given up on Touya again. The emotions were complicated as heck this time around, but I’m hoping that Touya can finally find some level of peace. And that’s not even touching on All Might and Death Arms.

I've said this on every reaction I've watched up to now, but of all the tragedy stories in anime I've watched, this one has to be the single best delivered on all points. Everything starts with Toya idolising his father and wanting to be like him, his quirk hurting him and his parents not wanting to see their son hurt do what they think is right while making things worse, and having every other member of the family do the wrong thing at the exact wrong moment to push Toya to a worse point until he became this thing we see. It's both amazing writing and heartbreaking levels of devastation to see and I love it for that.

Remember, the reason Death Arms gave on why he isn't a hero is "I'm only human", that alone shows how toxic the society is towards heroes, they expect heroes to be something more, which lead to fanatics like Stain who crippled and killed 40 heroes just because they don't "think like heroes" or they filmed an ad or something

Something that I like is that people have mentioned that when people talk about feeling sad for Dabi, is that they’re mistaking feeling simpathy, when it really is pity. He could have been such a great person, such a great hero but because of his own trauma and need for approval, ended up not only as a murderer but almost a mass genocide bomb and in the end it amounted to him getting basically put down. And he will only be remembered as such by the rest of the world cause he himself only let himself amount to that

This episode I would agree is the best in the series and my second favorite is the moment Midoriya saved Kota from Muscle. When Deku was being over powered and he called out for his mom and all might in possibly his last moments, that broke me.

It's the way that Endeavor only ever looked at Toya as an extension of himself and his dreams back then, and because he was not the new and improved Endeavor, he looked away from him, and if he had instead looked a little closer, he might've seen Toya's own potential, his own individuality, his own potential to be someone more amazing than he could ever imagine. The solution to Toya's self-destructive quirk was right there under the surface, but left unnurtured, it did not have the chance to grow. If Endeavor would've worked creatively with Toya back then, to help him discover his limits, nuances, and work-arounds in a safe environment, they could've found a way to pull out that ice and use it to protect Toya from himself, and allow him to live as he always wanted to. But alas, his ice remained just out of reach until he had already burned himself away out of his lack of a sense of purpose.....such a beautiful, heartbreaking tragedy. The Todoroki family touches my soul in such a unique and sorrowful way. There's nothing else like it in the world.
