Ban Khun Por is a great place to go in the evening. It is a huge night food market with cheap eats and beer. Some nights with live bands too. It is near Soi 94. Another difference with the Philippines is that there are no brownouts in Thailand and better internet connections.

For an older expat you probably picked one of the nicest places to stay in Thailand, in my opinion. The king of Thailand has his residences there so it is also fairly well policed and kept in good condition. There is enough nightlife to keep you interested and the beaches are pretty clean. I have been going to Thailand for about 25 years and it would be the place that I would retire to if I didn't enjoy my own country so much and I had no family ties.

Thanks for sharing once again 👍. I was like you, I couldn't find any drawbacks about living in Thailand. The food, the safe Thai society and the tropical weather makes it a great place to retire. The only thing that frustrated me was the long term visa. Unless you have sufficient income to satisfy Thai immigration, you will always have to deal with border runs and insecure short term accommodation. It makes it harder to plan long-term. Other than that I love Thailand 🙏. The Philippines pales in comparison 😮
