What made the previous seasons so interesting to watch was that each episode told a story, there was a gradual build up from recapping/setting the scenes to the big finale race/battle. Each episode had weight and felt important in the season's long run (heck they did a better job with the whole pandemic episodes than what they produced last season). DTS4 felt like a mess, episodes didn't flow, there was no continuity and a lot of major moments weren't included. Too much focus on personal drama with little focus on the technical side of F1.

Too much fakeness in DTS. Even if previous seasons. They weren't too great. But if he says S4 if worst so far I don't think it's worth watching. In general it's good DTS brings in new fans. But at the same time, they lure people in with the fakeness and bullshit setting stupid expectations. Then these people start following F1 themselves and think it's boring. After hearing Matt’s thoughts on the new season, I think the next steps for DTS should be to make it more like HBO’s series Hard Knocks (which for those who don’t know, follows different NFL teams behind the scenes every year) which I assume was the inspiration for DTS but does everything so much better. Hard Knocks is successful largely because they have so much less manufactured crap than DTS and the manufactured crap they do have is largely PR stuff from the teams, not bullshit soundbites that are cobbled together from years before. Drivers like Max might be more willing if they know that there’s less fake bullshit and that any drama is real or at least close to what reality seems from the outside looking in.

You can see that Max did have a point there, when he said that DTS is too dramaticized. Honestly, the F1 official YT Channel's Race Highlights and Team Radio Recaps got me hooked onto the sport; but Netflix DTS was also a major part of it. Now, DTS is just on the sideline. If we go by what you say; I don't understand why they need to add more drama to a roller-coaster of a season!

Didnt have any reference from past seasons but in terms of getting to hear and see the dramas, behind the scenes and some of the things we dont get to see through the actual season was really cool. It gave a prospective to the past season, got me to relive some of the best moments and learn more about drivers and teams I didnt really know too well. What folks need to remember is part of what made the 21 season great was how unexpected it was. No one would have predicted Ocon getting that win or Daniel struggling and recovering beautifully at Monza or Lando nearly winning Sochi , the entire weekend at Spa etc Netflix weren't going to necessarily be following these drivers because it wasn't where anyone expected the action to be. Plus one half of the title fight won't work with them and the other barely does... They have to make the best out of who will work with them and what actually happens when they are.
@jordanharris50132 жыл бұрын
This comment is spot on. In a different world the title contenders are drivers that don't mind talking honestly and openly but that's just not the case. It's not a bad thing but that's just who Max and Lewis are. Netflix can't be with every team at every track. It's unfortunate. I can see why they could've missed things during the seasons. It's a tough one. How much behind the scenes access did Netflix really have? It would be cool to see DTS writers say why they did things if this season really is that bad. At the end of the day when you don't have the title winner of one of the greatest seasons ever that really sucks.
@Randomvideos-zi7pe2 жыл бұрын
They can work with what they have and got, but there isn't a need to turn the sport into "american", and create fake shit to misinform new fans, which they will end up with stuck up opinions and refusing to believe the words of the fans who have stuck around way before DTS came out. Ultimately it is still netflix's fault that max walked out and refuse to work them anymore because of S1.

I got into F1 really recently after binging all four seasons of DTS. The fact that season 4 was so jumbled up, messy and focused so heavily on the title fight is probably what made me go straight to getting an F1TV subscription. I wanted to see what happened to all the midfield guys I grew to love during the first seasons that were just completely forgotten about by the end of season 4. I get that is was a VERY dramatic fight between Merc and Red Bull but it stole the whole show. The other drivers were just background props. Like you point out, it felt like a dramatic recap. For me it's also much more interesting to follow the drivers rather than the team principals. In the future I'd love to get some more of the mechanics, radio operators and see more pit stop action because they deserve more recognition. The Haas pit stop drama of episode 1, season 1 was so exciting and heartbreaking and really pulled me in to keep watching. I hope they keep going and that they find a way to make upcoming seasons better. I also hope they do a respectful and good enough job that the drivers want to keep participating. It's fun to get to follow the drivers but not if it feels like they're uncomfortable or annoyed by it.

Immediate thoughts and opinions from watching the video: the writers of dts need to be f1 fans, not drama show writers. It also need to be more of a documentary, it needs to document what happens and give the inside scoop, not make it a drama show. And there is so much content from each race, they can literally make an episode per race, so you have to watch each episode to keep updated on things like how DR is doing mentally before monza.

I think Netflix's main issue (which shouldn't be a problem) is that they now have a larger audience that has been tuning into the season do they can't get away with their previous formula. What they need to change to is the first half of the episodes to build up the frictions and duels. Then use the last half of the episodes to finish out any controversies / potential title competitions. They're trying to stick with drama for drama sake which only works if you don't know what's going to happen. However you can get away the suspense if you get the thoughts of the drivers before and in the moments of the races/championship is decided.

For those who don´t know, there´s an animated series called "Archer" that is a parody on James Bond. Without getting too complicated explaining it he is all of the things Bond is, but alot more "Adult"- like. Anyway! His mom in the series is the head of the agency they work at and the actress died before the series was finished. They then had to copy/paste her voicelines in the end of the season. "I wonder if the FIA needs to step in and tell teams to allow more behind the scenes access to the Netflix team" You are missing the point, at the beginning they had a lot more access but then they stated to fuck it up with fake drama and just taking reality and turning it into something else. Sounds a bit like the experience of watching the movie 'Rush', and every time I groaned, the wife sighed, turned to me and asked, "Okay, what really happened?" Like Rush, it sounds like a TV series made to be a "dramatic TV series" and not a true look behind the curtain.

So disappointing to hear this! DTS is what got me into F1 and I was so excited to watch S4, having actually followed the F1 season. And it’s not like there was a lack of storylines… If it indeed lost its fly on the wall, seemingly authentic lens, that’s a missed opportunity to bring in more fans. It sucks too that it seems like a lot of characters and non-championship related stuff got cut out, because all those little bits are what made 2021 all the more fun and exciting. I’ll still watch it though… LOL

Can't wait for the Mercedes car with the honda PU sound and the Ferrari with the Mercedes PU sound. Oh yes and the car inside a corner but sounding as not even lifting

Drive to survive season 2 is what got me hooked on Formula 1, immediately started watching the next season afterward. It was such a blessing to discover the sport, before I never got into football or any other sport.

Appreciate the honesty. I’ll still watch it but good to have tempered expectations. I think DTS is still good for F1 overall just to pull people in, but if you avidly watch the race and follow the news then it’ll feel off

When Hamilton played the race card in the Tipping Point episode, I switched over to the new The Last Kingdom season.

No such thing as a ‘race card’

MotoGP’s version “MotoGP: Unlimited” is out on the 14th March. Maybe as an F1 fan you should try watch that and see if that’s any better. Would be interesting to see if it has the same affect on new fans as Drive to survive did have?

Wow!! Love the honesty. Proper respect to you Matt. Personally don’t like DTS because I know the sport well enough that the contrived BS and mistakes just jump off the screen. Sounds like this season is no different.

Yeah....completed watching DTS 4 and I too have the same opinion. Honestly, I didn't enjoy this season like the previous ones. DTS was the experts in making drama out of nothing in the previous seasons, but failed to capture the abundant ACTION & DRAMA PACKED 2022 F1 SEASON.... I mean, apart from some backstage conversations, the 2021 F1 race highlights are even more exciting to watch than this year's DTS. Moreover there is hardly any contents about Raikonnen, Giovanazzi , Vettel, Checo's Mexico win, Tire blowouts in Baku GP, Aston martin contents. The Russian GP drama is not as detailed as expected, Hamilton being stuck in Monaco GP, where he lost 2 or 3 positions because of badly timed pitstops, Vettel's superb drives in Monaco and Baku, are all neglected......Don't know why..... Overall I was left HUNGRY for MORE.....WORST DTS SEASON.

How did they manage to mess up such a juicy season? I was honestly going to watch d2s because of so much drama last year
