I will seriously be considering saying "bye, bye" to this brand moving forward. I will continue to purchase the old high-quality items on the secondary market. I have been collecting or 20 years and my heart hurts over the increase in prices and lowering quality. Thanks for all you do for the community Kris!

I understand wanting to appeal to younger kids as they seem to be more into dolls than the traditional 8-12 target range, however AG is making an odd choice going so young as those parents seem less likely to invest in a "luxury" brand, especially if the stuff they make looks just like Walmart/Target items. One reason AG's prices use to feel justified was that it was different than other brands and felt more realistic and higher quality. The rainbow stuff might be popular but will parents be willing to spend AG prices for it when there are so many similar alternatives?

The answer for me personally is no. I have a 6 year old. If I want to get her a pink haired, rainbow themed, pet loving doll and accessories there is plenty of that to be found with Barbie (and many other brands) for a fraction of the price. This is not the type of product I am coming to AG for. It makes me sad, as I grew up with Pleasant Company and wish my daughter had access to a similar experience now. We’ve been getting into the current AG with her, but nothing about Summer’s collection feels luxurious or educational so it’s a no for me. We will go to target for this type of play.

Thank you Chris for your honest opinions and comments. I was so disheartened to read recently about the Etsy sellers being targeted by copyright claims. I agree that it is ironic when Summer’s character is a young entrepreneur. I am so glad you mentioned it in this video. As far as Summer herself, I think she is very cute. I like her pink and strawberry blonde hair. Her pets are adorable too. I have a white cat so it’s so tempting and I also love the back pack. I am so happy to hear that the skort with the hearts has actual pockets. 👍

I feel like that dog spa was originally supposed to be in Summer's collection before they decided on only one big ticket item. It's the exact same color scheme and it's surprising she doesn't have any other playsets.

13:57 I think this is terrible for business for both Mattel’s American Girl & Etsy small businesses. I have literally gotten into sewing and crocheting due to American Girl dolls. They are missing a huge market for bonding with dolls with crafts like they did with other crafting packs they did in the past. 18:56 As for the onesie, I got Disney ILY 4 ever Minnie & Pooh from Target for $11.99. I highly recommend them for the price I was impressed. I know there is a doll in the Stitch one for $34.99 if people are interested. Also, Our Generation came out with a huge amount of dogs and cats within 2023 and 2024. Those who are trying to save money, highly recommend! They have bunnies if you want your Summer to love bunnies as well.

I 💯 agree with you on the downgrade in AG quality, which seems to decrease year after year, while prices keep increasing. I have been saying this for years and it’s so true. I am so upset with AG for going after small businesses on Etsy. They hadn’t before, and now all of a sudden there is. AG should be ashamed of themselves. Maybe AG/ Mattel is jealous because small businesses owners that sew clothes for AG dolls have a lot better quality than AG themselves.

Thanks for all you do. You are so spot on about the Doll and your opinions and I am one of the small Etsy Seller’s that received copyright claims because I am/was using AG dolls in my pictures to show scale or clothing fit. You’re right and it’s pretty ironic that Summer has a small business and Etsy small businesses are currently being targeted by American girl. I personally have many conflicting opinions about the brand right now. I am working on a letter that I will be sending to corporate about the boxes, the eyelash issues, or I should say, painted on eyelash problem that I discovered, and the all out assault on Etsy Seller’s.

I will be getting Summer, her accessories, both the Waggy Tails and Bake Sale outfits, and the Stars & Snuggles PJs. I will also get Crescent as well. At the time of this comment, I’m undecided on getting The Treat Cart. In all honesty, I really love the meet outfit Summer comes in. The bright rainbow pattern gives me so much sensory joy and makes me feel very happy. I take pride in saying that I’m among the few adult collectors who actually likes such color patterns. As much as I would like to get Summer as soon as possible, I will not be purchasing her or anything having to do with her until after January 1st. It’s been hard waiting until then, but so far so good, I’ve managed to resist Thanks for sharing your thoughts and making this video

Thanks Kris for sharing! I did not know AG was "trying out" the new boxes. I'll definitely contact CS as I'm among the unhappy customers. I agree with you, AG is a luxury brand, and the product much match the price we pay whether it is for an adult collector or bought for a kid. I started to buy AG dolls for my daughters and went along with the higher price because I knew I was getting a quality that was not found in the cheaper brands. So how can parents pay what AG asks for their dolls if they are cutting corners? Then, why choosing AG over Our Generation or Our Journey Girl, etc...? Some parents and adult collectors have to save up to offer their kids or themselves the luxury of having an AG doll. So it's not fair to them. I think that the "vendetta" against the small Etsy business owners is totally uncalled for! ☹ they are not hurting AG in any way, they are not replicating AG outfits. It is their creation and their AG dolls modeling their patterns. This can only draw people to buy AG dolls. How can AG complain about getting more sales from free advertising? 🙄

Corrine was the last GOTY with an actual chapter book and I think because of the lack of reading set backs during the height of the pandemic so AG is having to set the books as journals to fix the reading gab and setting the doll books shorter than the have the chapter books be released later on. I personally don't mind the journal books and I prefer a chapter obviously I can read it when it comes out. I guess its a retelling in depth of summer book.

Yeah, it really saddens me that AG quality is dropping so drastically, today's children deserve as good quality as we had when we were kids. They quality is one of the reasons I fell in love with AG to begin with. I am also disappointed in AG switching to the journals and only one book, more examples of quality decrease, the toys being story-centered is another big draw for me and would be a large factor in whether I would get my kid AG too. While the doll is cute and I love that she comes with glasses, I probably won't get anything from Summer's collection until it's on sale, if at all, but I'm happy for people that do like her.

I went to the Dc store today and the quality is so bad its not even polyester it's like craft store material. Also, the pricessss are killing me with inflation and I don't even have a doll. Now I will say the dog related items are so cute. I also love her hair it's so light compared to corinne's. Overall maybe 4.5/10. I love her hair tho. I just want a doll period. I love joss tho because I can realte to her storyline. Also, I go into the store everytime and the staff think I want Corinne because I'm Chinese ugh.Stop asking me that people. I've made my peace with the meet outfit--I love bright colors, and a kid should be able to wear fun pastels. The rest of the outfits just seemed so...basic. I could see any TM wearing that bake sale outfit, it's tacky and childish (I realize she's a child, but AG does have a reputation of higher design quality than that) and some of them just feel like free advertisement--why do the pjs have the exact AG star on them? Why does her apron have the American girl name on it? She doesn't look like a girl, she looks like a doll. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with her story (except the shady small business stuff) it's just so basic and overdone. Where are the gotys that are video game coders? Chefs? Rock climbers? Farmers? Gardeners? Etc? Give me a goty that lives in Texas and participates in the Rattlesnake Roundup or something
