As an overweight elderly bloke with no interest whatsoever in getting on a track and who had to restart the video after accidentally switching off the telly with the remote as I shuffled off my armchair to get a second bacon sandwich in the middle of this (detail matters) - I am absolutely fascinated by the tech, the thought, the science, the work by many hundreds (including you), and the emotion that has gone into the making of this bike and your attempt at the hour record! I am massively enthusiastic about you taking the record on Wednesday! It is hard to convey how enormously I want you to do well. (PS I'm not *that* overweight - I will be cycling from middle England to Istanbul starting early next year) (PPS Chanel makes a fair bike modeller, all things considered)

@albr43 жыл бұрын
@@wargey3431 yup that's what I want to do at some point. I believe that a disc wheel makes a huge difference to your average speed. It would be interesting to see the difference between my current aero road bike and a full TT setup because I know I can hold a world tour level aero position but just need the equipment to match it.
@thomasjousse24273 жыл бұрын
Frankly, as long as you've got TT bars, you're probably aero enough for most events.
@albr43 жыл бұрын
@@thomasjousse2427 I think a disc wheel will add 1mph to your average speed, of course adding TT bars to your road bike will make you quite a bit faster but if you've got an extremely aero road position it doesn't make that big of a difference, all your doing is moving your together. People with bad road positions with their torso at quite an upright angle will benefit alot from aero bars.

Have you done any testing or does any know if there is a notable effect dependent upon where the rear wheel axle/bolts sit in the dropout? I assume you're more focused on butting the tire up to the seat tube, but was wondering if you had noticed a difference between the middle of the dropout and the end, where you had the wheel set in this video.

@scotth33543 жыл бұрын
If I had to guess, I’d guess because they don’t even qualify as the most marginal of marginal gains??
@mdgpatch79803 жыл бұрын
@@scotth3354 ye I just thought you'd want to reduce the base bar frontal area at those points and some of the Enve bar ends would just smooth the air flow over them. Marginal yes but in an hour record ever watt counts surely 🤷♂️
@mdgpatch79803 жыл бұрын
Profile design ones are 70p so surely worth it when you've bought at £1000 chainring 🤣 even if it saves you 0.01 watts

Alex, quick supplementary question. You don't have bar ends on your base bar that is facing the wind. they just seem to be open. Most others have got cones or at least some profiled end. I'm sure that you have considered this, just wondered what's the reason for that? Just over 24hrs togo woohoo...
