Not jealous here… This is just plain stupidity. Why is he acting surprised. Nearly EVERY year hurricanes pass through Florida. Get real people!
@PowerhouseCollectiveMedia14 күн бұрын
The thing that tripped me out about this is the fact that people move to Florida & they’re well aware that Florida is KNOWN for having HORRIBLE hurricanes - it’s also built on a literal SWAMP - yet they allow real estate agents to talk them into the idea of buying a home right on the water! Then once a huge hurricane hits, their property goes to shit & unless they have really really good insurance that will cover them on most of the losses & damages, then they just lost out on that major property investment… that many of them still carry mortgages on on top of it. People get shiny object syndrome & head in the clouds when they should’ve been thinking differently about purchasing so close to the water to begin with. This is why I have only a certain amount of empathy & sympathy for the people in this kind of situation, because if they bought so close to the ocean, then they KNEW they were taking a risk that was likely not going to go in their favor… like I feel for the fact that you’re going through that, but I’m not gonna feel sorry for the fact that you made the choice to be there in the first place.
@teresayates827414 күн бұрын
My parents lived in Florida for over 30 years. They lived 20-25 minutes from the ocean, and that's as close as they dared, and they couldn't afford home owners insurance in a two bedroom home far from the water. It's unaffordable or impossible to get if you live that close!
@Bravebelly14 күн бұрын
Bless your heart whoever actually reads this 😆
@PowerhouseCollectiveMedia14 күн бұрын
@@teresayates8274 the reality is, that Florida is going to end up under water. If I was a real estate agent, I just wouldn’t feel morally right about encouraging people to buy so close to the water. It’s an investment. If you want your investment to stand the test of time, then you do your due diligence. Some people don’t like to hear that, but it would also behoove quite a lot of people going through this tough time, to rethink their choices & if it comes down to staying or moving, be honest with themselves about what it’s going to be worth to stay there... especially if they want that home or property to stay in the family for several generations. If they’ve invested into certain upgrades, etc… like what’s it worth for you, SERIOUSLY?? I’m not knocking people doing what they want with their money, but there’s a difference in making smart investments & wise decisions - especially when you’re buying in an area with hurricanes and flood - vs buying because you’ve fantasized about being able to live close to the water & that’s your end game… Florida is the ONE place that I considered moving to about 8 years ago… & I only considered it for like 2 minutes! I’m from Southern California. It’s just crazy what people will do & then you try to tell them after or warn them before, like hey, make different choices… now, it’s make BETTER choices…

People who have not seen tidal surge during cyclones, hurricanes, have no idea how high the sea actually comes up. I witnessed it when staying on a Fijian island a few years ago, when a cyclone was on its way that diverted out to see before landfall, thank God. But we could not leave the island for some days, and I was shocked how much the sea rose up because I had never seen that before. I live in South Australia where there are no cyclones, unlike in the north east of this country. 😅🇦🇺

To everyone saying “why didn’t they just leave, they had so much warning”. No, they didn’t. I live in the Caribbean and I’ve been tracking these storms since I moved down here. Usually you get a week of potential threat storms with a lot of uncertainty with regard to how strong it may be, or if it will change course. However, with these rapidly intensifying storms, you really don’t have much time to make certain arrangements, usually a few days at most. These storms are developing quicker and become tenfold more intense than expected within a day. Plus some people may not have somewhere to go, extra money to spend right at that moment, are caring for a loved one and can’t leave, just lost everything from the hurricane the week before, or for whatever other reason. It’s not that they are stubborn or ignorant to the gravity of the situation, but there just simply isn’t enough time to safely leave. Add in the chaos of millions of people trying to exit at the same time. It’s a lot easier said than done. As for the people saying “just go to a shelter” imagine housing the entirety of Florida in hurricane shelters. Keep in mind, Florida state alone is larger than most European countries. They fill up quickly. People are so quick to criticize with their preconceived narrative of what they think people should do, but until you live through that reality, you don’t know how you would react. Food for thought, thank you for coming to my TedTalk

People are so cruel and insensitive. Even when someone is at their worst moment, there are ass holes that take the time to kick that person. So he bought a home with an ocean front view and you wouldn't, good for you. I think this guy is doing a major service by filming what has happened to him, and thanks to him there will be many people who will think twice before getting a house close to the water. I personally would avoid Florida all together.

@@FindingHome-pk6rm Well it's just the lack of empathy that gets to me. Comments like "Well, you wanted a house with an Oceanview, there you have it". I mean ......I don't have to know the guy to feel bad for him. It was going to happen to someone, and that someone was him. So many people have lost everything in the midst of Helene and Milton. Should they be mocked too then? Eventually these disasters are going to get so much worse, that I think there won't be the possibility to live near the coasts; but for now, there will always be people who do, and for whatever reason they decided to buy houses overlooking the ocean. That's how humans live and learn. Those of us who are not in his situation should just offer words of support or shut our mouths.
