In the story it said that SHE stopped at a convenient store and bought the ticket. Saying something about 'dreaming' to the clerk. She signed the divorce papers before she knew 'SHE' had won or collected the winnings. She thought that he was the winner till the next day. Just the little things during that short time makes a big difference. Divorced then learning to be the legal registered owner of the winning ticket. She used the money for good. To others and herself moving forward away from bad situations.

So did he buy it or did she? Also if you buy a winning ticket while married is the win qualified for assets you need to split?

Great work by the author and narrator also very good. I was so glad that Amelia got away from Richard and his mother, they were horrible to her. I think she did all the right things in the end. Loved the story ❤.

This is such a heartbreaking situation. It's devastating to see how money can sometimes bring out the worst in people and damage relationships. I hope you find the support and strength to move forward during this difficult time. No one deserves to be treated like that, regardless of circumstances. Stay strong!

Very good and thoughtful story. Many people might change their personality if that person didn't have a solid moral and don't let money control him or her. God bless her 🙏

He kicked you out and managed to find your rented place. How? He bought the winning ticket and you remembered you bought it from a store. How? You shouldn’t have met up with him because of his aggressive attitude and disloyalty. Not good to trust such people even in open and public dinners. Won’t give him an ear or a penny too. And certainly won’t open the door for his mother. Good a thing you pulled through, found and rebuilt yourself.

Do not know about marriages in the USA, but in most western countries marriage involves the setting of an economics partnership. Debts are common and income is common too. 50-50, even if the society comes apart.

How come he was able to find you just after three days you were kicked out. Dud you tell him your address? Then you are crazier than you think.

Happens all the time, even without a win. Such people are programmed to fail, in all relationships. They just use people out of convenience, until something or somebody better comes along. Simply so.

There's no such Instant Divorce... especially in the United States. There's also marital assets and earnings that includes lottery winning. So, it makes no sense that she gave up her house that rightfully also belongs to her. 🤔

Obviously he knrw ut was her ticket as she showed it to him after buying it . He was trying to steal it. He actually threw her out with no notice and deserves nothing. Awful man awful MIL.

Lovely story, but I am not sure your legal analysis is correct as I’m not that familiar with Family Law in a non-community property state. If Richard bought the ticket with his money, then the ticket was his. If she took the ticket and registered it in her name without his approval then she converted his property into hers; i..e. It may be considered some sort of theft. If, however the story occurred in a community property state, then it doesn’t matter which spouse bought the ticket or whose name it was registered in, both spouses own it equally and the asset would be split 50/50 in the divorce. Personally, I think Evelyn is a bit of an AH, not sharing the winnings 50/50 with Richard since HE WAS the person who bought the ticket.

Stop what you're saying. Why on Earth should she give anything to Richard? She has nothing to give Richard. They are divorced and that you ends it. Even though the ticket wasn't Richard's, he was stealing it without giving her a penny!
