Marissa, your heart is so big..when you cried about having to pause the fund for the two children you support, I felt that. I know this must be EXTREMELY difficult right now, but somehow I really feel like the Lord is going to open up doors and blessings that are so much greater very soon. You are showing REAL life, and touching more people than you know. More times than not, life throws us curveballs, and it’s a great help to see someone, who is not only going through one but has also prepared herself and her family, for such a time as this. Stay encouraged Marissa, this season won’t last long. My family and I will be keeping your family in all our prayers. May the Lord pour out a blessings of peace, love, and finance upon you and your family. May you see him even greater in this season.🙏🏽

God is faithful and is a God of provision. I will be praying for you and your family and that God will provide an even better job opportunity for your husband. Thank you for being so open and vulnerable and sharing this hard season with us. If there is anything as a viewer that we can do to support and help you let us know. ❤️

I really hope you (both) allow yourselves to fully feel your feelings. A loss is a loss. Allow yourself to feel it. It isn't stupid, dramatic or silly to be emotional over a job loss. It's scary times economically and being a family with small kids! It's okay to feel what you feel and I hope nobody makes you feel otherwise 💕

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this. You have 60 days to apply for COBRA, so if you think you won't have any medical needs for December and January, you can wait until February to start whatever new insurance you pick and if something catastrophic happens in Dec. or Jan., you can just apply for COBRA and it is retroactive as long as you pay the premium.

It’s scary to lose an income. I know you all will be okay. You’ve set yourself and your family at a good financial place. You have emergency funds in your brokerage accounts and can use it as needed during this time. Your husband is a educated and skilled man and I’m not too worried about him finding another great job. I know your family is going through a lot but I’d love to hear how you all do in the month of November during this crazy time.

Marissa, I am so so sorry. You both are so smart and so generous, you will absolutely make it through this. But I want to thank you SO much for sharing this. We all look to KZbin for sincere relatability but anymore, I feel like all the KZbinrs I follow have perfect lives, perfect jobs, perfect circumstances, and it can become overwhelming to think about where to look to for solidarity and a true plan! Although you don’t have to share all of this at all, you have, and you are doing something so incredible. I know it hurts that you can’t give direct income to the children in Rwanda, but please rest assured that you are STILL giving, helping thousands moms and families plan for their future and support their families.

Trust me - most people have had to go through a lay off at one time or another. That is why Dave Ramsey recommends at least 6 months worth of expenses in an emergency fund. You will survive this - make getting another position your ‘job’ now.

In PA we have a state health insurance plan for kids called CHIP. My kids have been on it for years even though myself and my husband have benefits through our work for ourselves it was more cost effective for them to be on CHIP. You can't make too much to be on CHIP, your income just effects the monthly premium and it covers health, dental and vision. I don't know what your state offers but it might be something to look into.

Hi Marissa, best wishes for your family! For health insurance, I would strongly recommend looking into Medicaid or your state health insurance marketplace where you’d likely be eligible for a subsidy. While I don’t live in Oregon, in my state I was eligible for Medicaid while unemployed. They cared about my lack of income and did not ask about my assets.

Coming from someone who works in healthcare and has worked closely with health insurance and reimbursements, and billing don’t do the meta share. I know the COBRA sucks but trust me I would do so that over meta share. You’re very limited in what you can do and where you can go USUALLY with that. And a lot of places don’t want to deal with it because it isn’t actual insurance. You can apply for state insurance for the kids. Since he lost his job you guys should qualify. The income cut offs for children is much higher than it is for adults so look into that

I got laid off at the end of 2018 from a job I was at for 5 years. I was 8 weeks pregnant and was going to share the news with my team in our afternoon meeting that day, but our morning meeting was the layoff announcement. I was lucky enough to have 60 days of work left after the announcement but was unemployed, uninsured, and pregnant over the holidays. Applied nonstop and accepted a job offer the Friday before Christmas. My 4 year anniversary with that company is in January. Good things are coming to you!!

This brings me back to the morning when I was unexpectedly laid off a little over two months ago. It was a rough day. It has been great ever since and as you know because we’ve chatted on IG DMs, I am starting a new job soon 🎉 And I’ve actually enjoyed unemployment hahah. I know your husband will find something great at the right time 🤞🏼 I hope you can enjoy the time together until his next job.

Did you sign your kids up at the Dolly Parton Imagination Library? They will send both boys a new book who very month until age 5. It begins at birth or once you apply. You can do it online. While it doesn't pay your bills, the books may come on a day you need a bright moment, and opening and reading would certainly bring that. Every child qualifies.

Girl it is ok to admit that this is stressful and trying and God is still in control at the same time. The Lord knows what His plans are and He also knows that it's hard for us to not know what's going on when our worlds seem to catch on fire. Jesus Himself asked if the cup could be taken from Him so let me say it again, it's ok to feel some type of way. It's ok to acknowledge that this may very well be extremely unpleasant. As long a you remember that God is in control and it'll be for the best for your family. As hard as this is, remember that you don't know what God is protecting y'all from by allowing this. Don't forget to thank Him, especially now, because again, He knows the plans He has for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you hope and a future. Hold on to that. With both hands. Always hold on to His promises... Edited to add: Your children will qualify for medicaid. You don't have to worry about that.

Don't pay that much for health coverage if your husband hasn't found a job by the time yours expires. From my research the medishare covers very little, so to pay that much for it is not worth it. When you lose a job and need temporary insurance there are safety nets, especially for children. Each state has a children's health insurance program. With a job loss, it shouldn't cost much if anything to have your children covered unless your income makes a significant amount. I would go that route before spending $700 a month on a medishare. It's just temporary until the insurance from his new job will kick in. I've been there. Stay strong...you will make it through.

The most important thing is you guys stay together as a family and get through the hard time that's coming. Also it's very important to realize that anyone getting laid off now is because of the Federal Reserve cycle since they raised interest rates. The reason they do that is so more people will lose their jobs and it will reduce inflation. So please let your husband know it has nothing to do with his job performance or self worth. Maybe young families like yourselves lost their homes during the 2008 crash and the whole thing is repeating now. Do you have any family living nearby? If not, I would recommend moving near parents if they're willing to help watch the kids while you're both working. It's not really possible to do that with no family living nearby.

Praying for your family! We had a very similar situation. It has been a huge fear of mine, we were not as well prepared as you are. The Lord provided, and I now look back at those months as a blessing; the extended time of having my husband home while my youngest was a newborn was precious, although stressful at the time. I pray God will bless the unexpected time for your family and I pray for quick provision of a job for Jacob.

Marrisa, you are a strong, brave and courageous woman! You deserve better, get rid of the dead weight. You want that weekend european trip? A Mercedes in the garage, lunch at Spago's, a private Chauffeur? Remember the old saying, Smart people learn from others, average ones from experience, and the stupid? Well they NEVER learn. I encourage you to follow all your other American sisters, it's all the rage. After all, they all can't be wrong. I have a top notch Divorce Attorney here in NYC, a real shark, by the time they are done with that deadbeat, he won't be left with one pair of underwear. You go girl.

I’ve used medishare, CHM, and Samaritan Ministry. I like Samaritan Ministry the most. Let me know if you have questions.

So sorry to hear that you guys are going through this. I would see if you have bills that perhaps you can lower, rather than cut out completely. An example, cell phone bill. We need phones these days and there are many prepaid carriers that are over looked that offer such cheap prices. I recommend Mint mobiles $15/ month plan to help you guys conserve during this tough time. Praying for you guys.

I am sorry, you and your family will be ok. Unfortunately the majority of the layoffs are to the people that ate working from home. Sending prayers

Blueberry pediatrics is a wonderful resource- telehealth visits cannot handled everything, but they have saved our family hundreds of dollars this year on pediatrician visit costs by being able to handle a decent chunk of pediatrician visits by phone vs in person.

So sorry for your news. Totally been there back in 2020 when my husband was laid off. It sucks but God is good and we saw his faithfulness displayed through that season. Trust Him! As far as insurance goes you should look into Samaritan Ministries. Same type of sharing plan like you are looking into. It’s easy to use once you figure it out! I’ve had both my babies (2yr & 3mo) with that coverage and only pay $400 per baby. We pay $596/mo for up to 7 people so I could have 3 more kids and my monthly share payment wouldn’t change. Look into it! Sounds like a better monthly payment than medishare. My husband has free healthcare through his job but Samaritan Ministries is way smarter in the long run for the rest of the family because my “deductible” so to speak is only $400 for having a baby.

Thank you for your transparency. While I know this is a difficult time for your family, I trust that with the Lords help you will overcome and this will be a testimony that you will be able to share and use as a teaching moment for others. Thank you for all that you do.

Be sure to have your husband apply for unemployment benefits the first week he has no income. Don't wait because it doesn't go backwards in time. Good luck. Will keep your family in my prayers.

Hi Marissa, so sorry for your plight. I may have missed it if you said this already, so please forgive me if you did. Do you have like a 6-12 month emergency fund for situations like this? Thank you for your time and stay strong.
