And not to knock her story, but they didn't pay off the debt using the Ramsey methods. It was the house and life insurance that paid it off.

The debt free scream really got to me. Brave woman. And for those of you making the juvenile comments about this woman and her friend Chad give it a rest and grow up. You are disrespecting this brave widow and the memory of her late husband.

I wipe a tear with every debt free scream no matter how hard I try not to cry, but this one really got me. Prayers for her and her family. Their friends' persistence (nagging 😉) and Jennifer's commitment to keep going when it surely would have been easier to quit are important lessons for me today. Thank you.

I understand her story. Even tho my husband and I didn't have any debt other then our home, we were always on the path of saving, and being good with our money. He passed away almost 8 years ago, and I have carried on his legacy, to provide for our children, and hopefully, their children will continue on in honor of him.

My father also lost his spouse not too far into marriage (thankfully I was born before that happened). I can't imagine how painful that is and how those memories carry with you. You marry someone planning to have so much time with them and then they're gone.

How absolutely wonderful to be debt free when dealing with her/your husband's passing!! (caps for emphasis not to scream) I AM SOOOO VERY HAPPY about that for you/her !!! Imagine if she/you had to start becoming debt free all by her(your)self AFTER he died!!!! Maybe this was his greatest present to you/her - to agree to listen to those friends who so blessed you both (them) by encouraging them to do that budget - thereby also leaving you/her with thousands of wonderful memories and feelings of achieving that goal together - which are now buttressing you/her beautifully as you/she pass(es) through the grieving - MUCH more easily - especially as you/she has a daughter and so MUST handle that (blessing) well !!!! Three dozen roses and the most romantic dinner pale in comparison to this exquisite peace of mind you/she have/has now!!! While seemingly (is that the word I am looking for?) sad this is actually a most profoundly uplifting story because THIS is the condition to be in to deal with all of life's challenges, of which unexpected death is one. I really don't believe in death anymore - your husband's soul and true essence just MOVED to a different address. It took me 14 years of caregiving to my own parents (so they could make their move from the from the comfort if the home they loved instead of a nursing home or hospital) to know this in my bones, but I DO KNOW IT IN MY VERY BONES NOW. Athough THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS DEATH, the human side of us still must experience the grief as things are different on the earth plane after our lived one(s) move(s). I especially want to say to this beautiful woman/you is that the latest studies show that grieving takes TWO years, NOT ONE, as was previously thought, and AT THE TWO YEAR MARK THE GRIEVER IS MOST VULNERABKE. --- so DO NOT make ANY VOLUNTARY serious life decisions like remarrying or changing jobs until you are WELL PAST THAT TWO YEAR MARK so that you don't make moves you will later regret or not even know why you made them. Waking up next to a face you will look at and wonder "what am I doing with THIS man?" is not where you want to be a few years from now. Same thing with major job changes etc - NO VOLUNTARY major decisions until you are well past the 2 yr mark. This applies for all deep grieving, even if one is grieving the loss if a job one loved or a business one started that one loved but lost or had to give up for whatever reason. Death is a trauma for those left on earth. Give yourself the space and help to heal from this. You are a beautiful woman AND were happily married - both these factors mean you stand a more than excellent chance of remarrying happily (which your husband certainly wants for you as no doubt he expressed to you) so have no fears on that score! In fact you probably have to avoid the interested men already I will bet! So you especially then need to avoid these men for now to fully process your husband's moving to the soul plane - do not run from these feelings. After you have processed and found your new normal and new "strong", there will be plenty of opportunity to date. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year - this /your story actually has filled me with new joy and inspiration as to why it is SOOO important to be debt free!!! Thanks for coming on Dave's show and sharing yourself and your husband with all of us!!! He must be beaming in heaven !!!! And applause to those friends that got you on this path of inner peace and true self empowerrment!!!!

I could really use some Dave Ramsey advice myself. My husband died this past November, and I needed to take money out from IRA account, which I know is a big no-no, to pay past due mortgage, bills and living expenses. I can't sell my house yet because of the ongoing heirship process, but I have sold a vehicle and anything else that would give me cash to keep my head above water, but I am still struggling. We started FPU when we got married 14 years ago and it's like we paid attention to nothing but listening to this woman and another story (Cinthya's story from 2014) gives me hope that I'll one day make it out. My question is, do I need to pay my husband's individual debts too? Is that something I need to add to my debt snowball? Helpful advice desperately needed, please.

Yes indeed this was a tear jerker but I am here to peel a layer off this onion. We learned here that fast food can put you into debt and possibly pushing up daisies. We also learned that good people still exist even though this may be the worst economy ever. Stay strong and stay out of debt, as well as stay out of the Morgue/Hospital. Joy is in the heart, not in a Kim Kardasian mega mansion.Peace be with this family.
