The description in the link you provided is inaccurate. There is no indication in the episode that he is a widower or that he has any children. The "family" in the title refers to the family that occupies the house where he is staying.

Did anybody else notice that the production staff of this show were the same people who did Father Knows Best in the '50s? Find the older shows here on KZbin and compare the credits. If this had sold, there might have been a guest appearance by Robert Young somewhere down the line ...

This was terrific. I thought it would be like Gilligan's Island. This was so intelligent, wise, cultural, and full of color. It should have been a movie.

From the producer of "FATHER KNOWS BEST" and "WINDOW ON MAIN STREET" (both featured scripts by Roswell Rogers, who also created the latter series)- and Pat Boone's "Cooga Mooga" production company- this was produced as a possible series for ABC's 1965-'66 schedule.

So this is supposed to be in Hawaii (seems more like an island off of Mexico).Made in 1965 but Pat keeps saying "in my country" when Hawaii was made a State in 1959. Other than that not bad and I am surprised it didn't get sold.

THANKS so much for uploading this bodacious "blast from the past"! I love watching unsold tv pilots. Lots of familiar faces in this one (Leon Askin, Michael Pate , Vitto Scotti, etc).

I thought the bus driver was Bill Dana. This production must have cost a lot.

Pat sure was Very Young !! 😅😅

Pat was born in 1934 so he would have been 31 in 1965, when this unsold pilot was filmed.

Shame on the experienced Gene Reynolds. It's as if he put this pilot together and threw it against the wall to see if it would stick. Is this Hawaii or some island in Mexico? It doesn't matter... everyone has a different accent. Gilligan's Island is like watching Shakespeare compared to this.

Pat Boone deserved better than this. This was dreadful. I don't see where this could have gone for 26 episodes.

It should have been sold too bad

This really should have sold. That way the critics would have an 'Island' to hate worse than Gilligan's!

This pilot was good for race relations. Maybe that's why the establishment rejected it.

Well, this certainly wouldn't be "politically correct" today! Not only is the island a weird mish-mash of Mexican and Polynesian, but the actors (many of them well-known character actors from the '60s) are from multiple European nationalities, playing in "brown face". Leon Askin, who plays the sleazy mayor was Nazi Gen. Burkhalter on "Hogan's Heroes". And Vito Scotti, who plays Amando was all over the tube, including a few appearances on "Gilligan's Island", once as a Japanese soldier and a couple of times as a "Transylvanian" mad doctor.

Looking back at this 1965 pilot, we can see how racist this is . Pat Boone is arrogant and smug, being pushy to the islanders. this is supposed to be in the Filipino islands,
