My Island of Yap

Was there in 2003. Can't remember the name of the lovely, simple hotel, but it was maybe 20km from Colonia. Not far from manta ray cleaning station by boat. A Japanese lady had a dive operation there which I used. Nice memories.

@@okieman2023 Pathways sounds familiar. A very enjoyable stay with them. The flight (CS) landed around 3am and I remember worrying how to get to the hotel at such early hour. Locals on the flight told me not to worry and indeed it looked like half the island was there. Including a teenage boy and girl dressed in traditional costume greeting everyone. I remember funny things like the dive operator having a small 4WD Mitsubishi van and in Colonia there being a beauty shop that looked more like a blacksmith shop from the outside. Walked around that pool of water in Colonia and was reading job ads posted at the supermarket. The general feel was quite similar to Kosrae, where as Pohnpei was noticeably busier. Never stayed in Chuuk as at that time it had a rather bad reputation. Would be interesting to see how much Yap and Colonia has changed in 20y. Maybe 1 day capture a walkaround video of Colonia?
