He has to be the dumbest hysband ever having to ask several times for clarification of her suggestion after she made it crystal clear from the outset. It's obvious this isn't a spur of the moment idea. She's clearly given this serious consideration spent time rehersing the sales pitch before presenting it. Probably has at least one potential AP in mind. In her mind it's a done deal she just needs to get Hubby to sign off on it. He could have saved a lot of stress and heartache by calling time on the marriage and moving on as soon as she suggested the absurd proposal about extramarital relationships strengthening existing relationships. I know people who have open relationships that are successful. The common denominator is that The existing relationship is strong. Both partners discuss and agree on opening the relationship. Boundaries and guidelines are agreed and are sacrosanct. These may include conditions such as No single partners Nobody they already know Not in the family home No overnights Safe sex only. These conditions are specific to each couple. This was a one sided desire preagreed conditions were quickly broken and ignored. Inevitable outcome that dragged on far too long.

This is fiction, so too "open" marriage or relationship. There is no such thing. It is only an excuse to be promiscuous without consequences. Glorified cheating no matter how you look at it.
