Hey man, I’ve only recently found your channel, and I appreciate all the inspiration and help you’ve given me with my mk6 Jetta. I was planning to make videos but never really found the push for it, but thanks to you, I found my next goal. Unfortunately my Mk6 Jetta is no more, but watching your videos has helped me on not giving up on sharing my dreams. Hoping to find a URS4, but thanks for everything man, keep doing what you’re doing, and I’ll be waiting for more.

Any chance we can get a part # list on all those upgraded bits as well as maybe a rundown of the best 6 speeds to source? I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what all parts I need that will work and I'd like a trans with the best gear ratio. I know any 4 cylinder trans will work but there's quite a few. My 5 speed clutch is starting to get this wheel hop feel to it when engaging so my time is limited, might as well do it right and upgrade. Love the vids man.
@SubsurfacePodcast3 жыл бұрын
I think that's a good idea. I would like to gather the part numbers from the ones that I used and do some digging because I know there is a chart somewhere on the internet that shows the gear ratios for each of the 6-speed Transmissions but it may take me some time to find it.

@@SubsurfacePodcast If I can help lmk. I've never disassembled and trans before but I want to do all the upgrades you did, brass thingies, forks, LSD etc. I was thinking about doing an in depth video of all that and the swap too. I think I can pull it off, I've done a couple motor swaps I just have to do a little research on how to correctly pull the guts out and put them back in.

Hey man whats up. Well lately I haven't had much time to work on my own stuff honestly. I've never opened up an 02m 6 speed which is what you have but it's similar to the 02q. However the side of the 02m doesn't have the plastic cap like the 02q does so separating the case AND installing the right shims for the LSD is more difficult on the 02m. It's something I honestly would have a trans shop do because messing up there would be a really bad day. If you're willing to have a shop work on it, reach out to DASautowerks in Tampa. I heard good things about them.

Is there any ay fitment issues when installing the 6speed Transmission? I’m considering swapping a 6 speed into my 2007 rabbit but need more info
@SubsurfacePodcast4 жыл бұрын
As long as you get all the parts from the 6 speed donor car, the only modification you actually have to do is on the top of the bellhousing you need to trim off 1/8 inch of metal so that it does not hit the timing cover on the engine. It's really easy. I literally just used an angle grinder and trimmed it down until I met the line that I drew.

Ok nice, I found a whole 6 speed swap off a gti on eBay, seems all the parts needed are there . Did you use the clutch, flywheel and pressure plate off the 2.5 manual or gti . How does the N/A 2.5 work with the 6 speed manual gear Ratios?
@SubsurfacePodcast4 жыл бұрын
@@hectorplascencia4118 you need the clutch kit and flywheel for the GTI. The clutch for the 2.5 liter will not work. The ratios are great. Especially the MKV GTI 6-speed. No longer have to deal with a super long 3rd gear which only slows you down. The gear ratios are more proportionate and acceleration is better. If you use a 6-speed from a MK6 GTi the ratios are about the same but sometimes can be a tad longer. It's just not the best idea to get a 6-speed from an MK6 GLI because those gear ratios are very long and while they might be good for gas mileage they will hurt acceleration.

Hey man, I wanna swap my 09g trans in a mk6 jetta 1.8 to a dsg of the same generation. Plq if I’m not mistaken. I’d really appreciate it if you could help me out with what exactly all I would need to get it to work.
@SubsurfacePodcast3 жыл бұрын
To be completely honest it's hardly worth it. In order to actually successfully do it, you're going to absolutely need a stand along ECU system to get everything working. United Motorsports HAS done one or two before but they no longer will waste their time working with it as each ECU and TCU is different so they can't simply write 1 code. ECUmasters EMUblack has the abilities to get a DSG (FWD or Haldex) system working with the CANBUS system but I honestly only know if it working on a boosted 2.5L and you would have to reach out to ECUmasters to see if someone can build you an engine harness to accommodate. I know some gen3 1.8Ts come with DSG like the Golf sportwagen but again I doubt UM has a tune/code on hand for that swap.
@clan_3603 жыл бұрын
@@SubsurfacePodcast Heard, Thanks so much for the reply! Here is my dilemma. I plan on going big turbo with the new cts big boss kit with water/meth injection. I’ve sourced performance internals for the 09g along with a torque converter rework and valve body rework. All told it would cost me about 6k to have done. And that’s excluding the lsd I’m currently working with a company to produce. All parts for the dsg swap and upgraded internals is much closer to 2k. That’s including the trans, wiring harness, tcu, axles and the performance clutch kit. Since the 1.8 is essentially the same engine as the 2.0 it’s no where near as simple as plug and play with a quick tcu flash? Would the tcu tune be something along the lines of what a pro-tuner would be capable of? Considering the fact that the 1.8 is the same as the 2.0 I would figure it to be much simpler. Is the 1.8 ecu coding just that different than the 2.0?
@SubsurfacePodcast3 жыл бұрын
@@clan_360 It just depends. The stock 1.8 ECU is designed to communicate either the 09g TCU and not a DSG TCU/mechatronics unit. swapping parts in is easy but coding is the challenge. But I'm pretty sure UM has engine software for the 1.8 and I do know they have TCU software for DSG DQ250/500 etc. I would email Fred Knize at UM and see if you swap the parts if they could simply tune/code your ECU to work natively with the DSG.

@SubsurfacePodcast4 жыл бұрын
@@seanreynolds9906 I did a 6-speed swap on two separate occasions. The one in this video that I did was from a junkyard car. It was a 2007 GTI which is in my opinion best year and model to get the six speed from because the gear ratios are not too long. They are really good for the 2.5 liter whether you're naturally aspirated or even when you go boosted.
