Sad fact:FPV is uncurable and is both highly contagious and has an extremely high mortality rate on cats/kittens(mostly kittens), but there are some good news; those being that if it is detected early on (which I assume means when early signs are starting to show) the symptoms can be treated. it it curable, i had 3 cats that got FPV, 2 of them died but one made it, it took almost 2 months for a full recovery, shes still alive today and just cat kitten 2 days ago!!

My cat (stray) was diagnosed with FPV and since we had other cats we were told to just let him be because they thought he would die in the next few months but he ended up living for like 5 more years! He ended up getting picked up by someone else and neutered and chipped but he walked all the way back to our house. When we looked up the tracking he must have been walking for weeks as he went like 130 miles away. He was the sweetest cat I ever knew. Also very bold, he would frequently climb right up into your face and nestle his body around your throat. And with those razor sharp claws there was no way to get him off.

You should always quarantine any stray you bring in until they are fully vaccinated and have been examined by a vet. Testing for FIV/FELV and other contagious diseases is imperative before introducing them to any other pets in your home. I’m sorry that you had to go through this.

Hey everyone! I personally foster kittens all the time! When you take in a kitten (or cat in general), put them in a cage or a small room for at least 2 weeks. This will give them time to adjust to you and the environment, and also give you time to get the baby tested for any sicknesses so it doesn’t spread. Always make sure to wash your hands after handling a new kitten or cat!

my cat was a kitten when she got parvo. I suggest giving them lots and lots of love and attention, spending time with them. I believe this is what gave her the strength to survive. She is five this year, and was a kitten when she first got it. SO there is always always hope

That's what my cat had and its was slowly taking his life and energy away. It is so heart breaking to watch, all you can do is make their life comfortable until they pass naturally or euthanize them. My boy did not eat when FPV finally hit him, he could barely move or even hold his head up, it was painful. Im sorry youre going to go through this heartbreak, youve been good to them.

Dogs have a version of this as well, please remember to get your pet’s vaccinated. There are places that host low cost vaccination for very little cost. Southern Agriculture is a big one my sister used before having to give up her dogs due to financial issues.

We had to put my daughter's cat down due to FIP which according to the vet is the cat version of Covid. We put him to sleep and buried him and then had to deep clean everything to make sure our other cats didn't get it. Same thing happened, he was perfectly fine one day and then the next he was playing with my mother-in-law's dog and he collapsed. My s/o thought that he had just overdone it on playing but when his breathing didn't get better the next day we isolated him and scheduled an appointment with a vet a few towns over. Luckily as far as we can tell none of the other cats caught it from him so fingers crossed.

My cat got Panleukopenia also. One death, one survived. The survived one got very intensive care. I got him special water for diarhea every 1 hour using a syringe. I got special RC wet food for digestion and feed him every 2 hours, also using syringe, cause he didn't want to eat anything. The virus hurt his stomach and intestine so food and drink was like cactus needle for him. Much much prescription from the vet. It was like 3 pills, one syrup and one vitamin. My hand got scratched and bitten alot due to he frantically refused to eat. I hope your cat survived. He survived after 3 months intensive care and declared virus free.

A similar situation happened to my family but the disease ended up killing 2 kittens we rescued and our adult cat that was only 2 years old. This was a very difficult time for us due to the fact my childhood dog passed away a few weeks ahead and the kittens were supposed to help me cheer up. I hope that your kittens are able to fight it

Tips for the future. If rescuing or bringing in strays keep a designated room for quarantine, this can be up to two weeks for cats and some other animals. Make sure the room can easily be disinfected and cleaned and also make sure the room isn’t accessed by other animals. Wear appropriate footwear and clothes that are easy to wash and clean their bowls, tools for cleaning them out and anything else you use or they touch. I work on a farm and studied animal care, that’s why I’m so strong about quarantine and the importance of it when bringing in any new animal, even if they don’t seem sick.

For your information, Interferons are a group of signaling proteins made and released by host cells in response to the presence of several viruses. Interferons are effectively used when curing viruses. As a veterinarian, I can assure you that quarantine doesn't always work.

My aunt found out her cat had HPV after he was attacked by a snake. He had a girlfriend and kittens. My aunt took him to the vet and that’s when they told her they couldn’t do anything for him. So she gave the word to have him put to sleep. I tried to be strong for my aunt because she loved him so much. But I was in the car crying like a baby. I can’t deal with stuff like that.

My grandmothers best friend had a FPV house as she called it. She exclusively had cats with the condition. She was a great woman always super careful when leaving the house but gave every cat that entered her home the best life she could.

There is no way of knowing if the cat looks well when you take it at 1st. The same with other illnesses. You do the best you can. Hope they got better ❤

This made me cry. The same thing happend to me a few months ago. We rescued 3 kittens from a farm (not even 1 month old). The farm had around 40 cats and the owner did not take care of them. The first 2 days they were so energetic and happy, but then after 3 days they started to get sick one by one. We took them to the vet and turned out they had parvovirus. 2 of them died that day and the third one, a day later. We had to throw all the stuff out and burn it, because parvovirus can stay in furniture and rooms for up to a year.

I lost a rescue to canine parvovirus. I took him into my dorm room and he was with me for two weeks before passing away. It was all so fast, and he was the best little lad I ever had. He was so tiny, and I loved him so much. Still think about him a lot.

My most recent dog, whom we got from people who didn't take care of their pets very well. So she too got Parvovirus, but luckily we were able to save her and she powered through the treatment (at a hefty price) and now is the most active dog we've ever had.

You had to learn the hard way about helping sickly animals and I'm sorry your kindness was repaid with this. In the future just know to quarantine a sick animal if you help it and don't let it around yours until testing has been done. Vaccinations. I foster FPV kittens. Vaccinations are the best way to prevent it. Vaccinate as early as 4 weeks and should be vaccinated every two weeks..

Parvo in any variety is one of the diseases I fear the most, it can wipeout an entire cattery or kennel - I fear it more than rabies.. I have 5 cats a dog and some exotics It transfers so quick and before you know they have it - its already spread everywhere there are younger kittens and pups - with symptoms hitting in waves or all at the same time........its damn devastating. its why quarantine measures are so important. I hope the kits make it.
