For the comments on the size of the capacitors, this is due to the different construction of the capacitors. The old ones were oil capacitors, which are still a common style of capacitor as a motor run capacitor for residential air conditioners, specifically the condenser (outdoor) unit. The new capacitors are a meatallized polyester film capacitors. Poly caps are usually a go to choice for good quality capacitors. Even if you had upgraded to a premium cap like Mundorf, Claritycaps, or Sonicaps as long as you matched the uF (micro farad) rating of the originals you wouldn’t change the overall voicing of the speaker. You would likely see better delineation in details and more precise decay in the upper most frequencies where a cheap capacitor can make sound vague and muddy.

I just bought a pair of Heresy I’s and opened up the backs and they were physically spotless. No corrosion at all. They looked brand new. I am going to check the capacitors to see if they need replacing.
@johnmbell46424 жыл бұрын
Hey YM, glad that went so smooth and doubly glad they sound like they did or maybe slightly better which is not normally the case. You were wise to only replace what needed to be replaced. I have a heavily modified pair of spica Angelas these things could image like nothing else I ran them for about 12 years. Long story short I sold them to my brother who probably blew the woofers they had long been out of business and I got the so-called replacement woofers. the original Woofers were matched and I knew that you couldn’t buy just one Woofer when you could get the factory woofers you had to buy two. Unfortunately they were about 70% of what they were the magic was gone I’m glad that didn’t happen to you maybe in an upcoming video you can talk about how they sound in more detail after listening for a while but that first impression you mentioned is promising because you would know right away if there was a problem so keep the videos coming have a good one🇺🇸👍

Always fun playing with your Klipsch! IDK if you rmeember but I bought a pair of heavily modified Heriseys for a really good price. They were rear ported, the speaker moved to the front of the motorbord and the crossovers were redesigned by a "friend" I made new backs and got rid of the ports and had to 100 percent rebuild the crossovers back to Klipsch spec. Fun stuff, they do sound very good and they are my shop speakers so they get used often. Nice job on those, I might have used a little shrink tube on the bare wire but otherwise I see no reason they should not give you many many more years of service!
@Youthman4 жыл бұрын
Call idea on the shrink tube. But how would you get it on when there’s not much room to work with and it’s a fixed on both ends?
@wayneparris34394 жыл бұрын
@@Youthman Sorry for not getting back to you sooner! When you do not have a lot of room, shrink as much tubing as you can and just leave enough bare wire for the connection to be soldered then before you solder the connection slide another section of tube over the already shrunk tubing, make your connection and then slide the unshrunk tube over the joint and shrink the tube over the remaining exposed joint.

I've not heard the La Scala's yet, but I've got some vintage tube amps that would probably sound amazing with those speakers. I wish my listening space was bigger. Because I would have already been running Klipsch Heritage speakers by now. I've heard the Klipschhorns on my HH Scott Stereomaster 200 (12 watts per channel) when I bought it, and I've heard Klipsch Belles on a low powered vintage SS receiver at a vintage stereo store. That was enough to sell me on them right there. These are endgame speakers IMO, especially since there's so many ways to improve them. And since they'll run on just about any amp out there, even like a 2 watt Decware amp. Color me jealous. 🙂 God Bless you my friend, and have a great night. ✌️

Hello. When you replace old capacitors with new ones it is in brighter areas that you hear differences! You can also have lower resistance in new good capacitors. You should use polypropylene capacitors such as Solen Capacitor. There are no bigg sound differences between polyester and polypropylene but polypropylene is the best common type. You get silver or gold in oil but they are expensive capacitors. It's how you put together crossovers that means most and not always type capacitors. Each speaker must have its own custom crossover. you can not use universal crossover!
@Youthman4 жыл бұрын
These are what are recommended and approved by Klipsch engineer.
@ford15464 жыл бұрын
@@Youthman No matter what Klipsch recommends, The main brand in Norway and some other countries for many years on good crossover components is (Solen) (jantzen-audio) The quality order is as follows !! 1. Electrolyte is the worst capacitor type. 2. Polyester is better to more expensive. 3. Polypropylene is the best and most expensive type no matter what people say !! 4. Silver or gold in oil are very expensive capacitors! In proper speaker stores, polyester is good but cheaper alternative to polypropylene capacitors !! The sound difference between polyester and polypropylene is not always that big. Here it is more about how the crossover is put together and not always the type of capacitor! If you are wondering more about capacitors, call ps audio USA.

Years ago while playing full-time in the symphony I took a part-time job At Tweeter to earn some extra money to save to buy a home and they took on the mirage line and we all got 70% off their products. A final note I heard a set of aerial acoustic speakers(6t)at a Open house at a audio video Store here in Charlotte about three years ago and I have never heard anything like that before just totally blown away and at that open house they had a bunch of other nice speakers from other carriers but I had never heard anything like these and I have set my sites on a pair of 7ts. @voiceofreason92384 жыл бұрын
Pete you may be "worn down" but I don't think you speak for all of us. Certainly not for me. I am also a Klipsch guy and have owned La Scala's like Youthman has. It is very ordinary to update the capacitors after about 20 years. Youthman's 40 year-old caps were more than overdue for routine maintenance. Those old paper-in-oil caps can actually leak and release PCB's into the environment. Then you have problems. Since I also had old boards and then updated, from my experience the sound with the old boards still sounds OK but not great since it loses the dynamics. The sound is a little dull. The new caps bring a more exciting dynamic sound according to my ears.

why would you change the entire speakers when the only problem is the capacitors?. i he likes how the speaker sounds, i see no point. @@voiceofreason9238 those oil caps (in video) doesn't contain PCB anymore but yeah. should be careful around old oil caps with no "no PCB" label. dynamic loss could be the result of increased impedance of old caps (oil and electrolytics. any other solid dielectric won't be affected by age that much)

@@poserwanabe So you are saying that it's good for the electrical current and the audio signal to flow through decades of rust and dust and oxidation.

@@Geerladenlad I've seen inductors older than that with no problems, it's an INSULATED coil of wire, it's fine.

@@poserwanabe If they were my crossovers I would have replaced them. Regardless of what you think.

Hahaha that’s too funny Billy. I should have bought two more sets. Sure makes it easier than those screws

why you didn't just make new crossover for all 3 to keep the original one somewhere to show?

I’m confused. I showed you in the video the original crossovers with the original capacitors. I do not have many of my subscribers coming to my house to personally look at my old crossover LOL

@@Youthman just me, having a 40y old crossover in the original shape to keep somewhere to show to my friends and others, they will be rare to find and was an unique chance to have them. I like old stuff

I’m not super fond of vintage stuff. If someone wants to see it, they can watch my video LOL

@Youthman had one board that went completely out of spec. He upgraded all three boards to match sonically which was exactly the correct thing to do.
