I can remember the first time I ever heard this song. My husband was stationed at Ft.Polk, La. Every weekend there were Friday to Sunday cookouts, card games, board games and one weekend we did "an American Smokeout"- people trying to quit smoking. Anyway the M.P's ran the base pretty much and the cookouts to keep ppl in line, no weekend stupidity causing people to wind up either on the base roster or Leesville P.D. list. There was one M.P. who "ran 75% of the marijuana and other drugs"(I mean controlled distribution) through the area from his homestate of Pennsylvania. He "thought" "it would be a hoot to put a quarter hit of L.S.D. in some of the quests Boones Farm bottles of wine. To make it doubly fun, he put it in "random bottles" so no one knew who got the hits. Yours truly got one of the hits. I remembered lighting candles for ambiance in the living room while people were settling in getting ready for some parlour games. Next thing I know I am super intent on watching a candle-flame make dozens of varying shapes and lighting figures. My husband figured out that I was one of the "victims". I stared at that candle for several hours until it was burned half way down- that song started playing at the beginning of me sitting down on that ottoman by the candle. Lady D' was playing on auto the whole time. I woke up the next day muttering that song under my breath. It took a couple of weeks to break the habit of the"instant reply" in my brain. That and being basically "roofied" without consent or knowing with a mind altering hallucinagenic drug. I haven't taken another non-prescription drug since. Nor have I ever wanted to either. That ONE incident was enough to scare me but I became a live-long Cat Steven's fan because of it.

I lost a very close friend a few years ago from a falling out. I often listened to this song during middle school when I was debating asking her out. Guess I waited too long, huh? I don’t know if I’ll ever reconcile with her- thankfully, I know she doesn’t hate me, so maybe it’s possible- but if I can’t, then… well, that’s life. It’ll hurt, but we can’t always get what we want. And maybe knowing that gives me a hint of peace. If you’ve ever experienced something similar, just remember: Present sadness does not invalidate past happiness. Love can be hard, even to those who make it seem effortless. _It’s okay to cry if you need to._ Edit: We did actually reconcile. We didn't go back to being friends, but hey. Bittersweet is alright. But my message still stands.

However, there's a placed in poetry, music, human feelings and affection that's senior to all faith and perhaps us the ultimate unveiled truth to any faith. Lyrics meaning. As Stevens was nearing the end of his period of recuperation, he attended a party that boasted a gathering of musicians in London; Among the party-goers was an American teenager who was pursuing a modelling career named Patti D'Arbanville The two began dating over a period of more than a year. D'Arbanville stayed with him whenever she was in London, but often found her career taking her to Paris, and New York City.
