My last night in Lahore | Pakistan Fried Fish Controversy 🇵🇰

This was supposed to be a wonderful dinner, but I noticed some issues when I saw the bill. I started recording the following events because, even after asking the restaurant to recheck the prices, the drink price they gave me still didn’t match the menu, and the portions were not what I had ordered. Perhaps it was due to dining habits or communication issues, but I can’t see how two kilograms of fish is a reasonable portion for two people. Later in my trip across Pakistan, I tried fried fish at three other restaurants, where even half a kilogram was available for ordering. Out of all the restaurants I visited in Pakistan, I’ve never been served more food than what I ordered.

You overreacted. No one scammed you. Probably It was miscommunication. When you ordered, they thought you ordered everything for 2 persons. About difference in price of mango shake, its because prices in Pakistan fluctuate alot on daily basis. You go to market to buy mangoes, it may be 300 per kg, next week it may 500. So, it's not financially feasible for restaurants to print new menus every week. Difference in price 350 on menu Vs 400 actual is due to high inflation.

@@wa9335 agreed. Most probably they didn’t update or print a new menu for a relatively small amount (15 cents or so). What they did was not communicate properly. They might not be great at communicating in English or assumed you ordered for two. Just nicely talk to them and tell them they misunderstood.

Actually they weight the fish first then fry, obviously the weight is more before frying and after frying the weight is less, so shopekeeper is honest about his business, no body has scammed you and the amount of fish you ordered i can see its 2600 for 2 kilo which is very mucy honest and precise. So please first investigate and then accuse someone.

You should have returned the fish and rice right away seeing the quantity. It was miscommunication but thee mango shake price was wrong for sure.

Thank you for your reply.When they brought me two mango shakes, I immediately noticed the mistake and informed them that I had only ordered one. However, when it came to the fried rice and fish, I wasn’t familiar with the usual portion sizes, so I simply assumed the portions were unusually large

@ no problem. Just trying to convey that the staff might not see foreigners that often. They clearly misunderstood and assumed you’ll eat whatever you can and take home the rest. This is usually the norm there. They did not scam you. They charged you for the amount of food they served. It was in huge portions because of miscommunication. The staff in major chains are trained properly compared to local restaurants. The tourism is just opening up for Pakistan. Give them few years to match the standards of other countries you visited.

you need to be careful, they try to sell you as much as possible so the wise thing would be always tell them i want half order or half plate, in Pakistan a full plate is enough for two people so just ask them i want half plate for me and half plate for my mom, another idea would be always keep the pen and paper and write down your order on the paper clearly , like half chicken biryani, half chicken karahi , one mango lassi or whatever , so this way they cant deny for whatever you order, also these people have very little or no english skill so sometime the miscommunication can cause lots of problem, always double check your order and ask the waiter to repeat your order to make sure that he understood correctly , take care

Orders 1 kg fish and the waiter told he gave a double portion because they are 2 people. Nobody eats 2 kg fish and 1 kg chicken and 4 kg rice. Bring what I ordered not what you think I should order

Please name and shame this restaurant!!! I have seen this tourist scam before. Next time check and double check the order. After the two shakes you should have done so (this is advice for next time) but truly the fault is of the restaurant as NO HUMAN CAN EAT THESE LARGE PLATES OF FOOD. Can the people there not think?! Pakistani people please visit this shop and show them street justice
