*what about getting somebody to ride your bike somewhere and try find it with just the AirTag. I bet it works. The chances of somebody stealing it and not being within a few meters of an iPhone is basically 0. Its not live tracking but every time somebody goes anywhere near it you will be able to find it*

@YorkshirePork

@@TheMissendenFlyer I think you are missing how they work entirely. Take a scenario of somebody nicking your bike. They put it in a van and don’t realise the AirTag is there. There’s a high chance one of them has an iPhone, if not everywhere that van goes it’s pinging other motorists iPhones constantly. They get to an industrial estate where they store the bike. Other people in that area will be pinging it and letting you know where it is. The idea that criminals all live or store bikes in the countryside is ridiculous. Nobody is going to be trying to find their bike in nice countryside estates are they. Like I say a real world test of putting it on one of Geoff and dans bikes and you trying to find which cafe they are at from it or something like that would show it actually works fine especially for 30 quid it’s worth having as well as other measures

Those battery minders are a great addition to any motoring kit. I recently bought a large model that I can also use on my Toyota Corolla when I leave home for a fortnight or more. I expect to give it a go this year since my riding calendar includes an extra long journey from Tennessee to California and back. I hope I can complete the ride without a tire change. 🤞🏻

Tks Mr Flyer for another update on your fantastic bikes. You certainly have a motorbike for every occassion. I'd find it almost impossible to decide which one to take out for a run, so it must be worse for you haha. Thanks for the update, always interesting. The trickle chargers I think are a must when you have a bit of a ‘fleet’ that don’t necessarily get used that frequently. Certainly if you have something with electronics/alarms which can be a drain on the battery then they save you from that frustrating ‘click’ when you press the starter!

The AirTag comes into its own when you’re out and about. I try to park up in a busy area when I’m out and in this circumstance it’s close to lots of iPhones so if I want to check it’s where I left it then there’s loads of opportunity for it to broadcast its location. I have a Datatool tracker as well (the AirTag is in my luggage) and of course it’s not as good as the Datatool but it’s not bad when you consider it’s price. If your expectations align with its capabilities/limitations then an AirTag can be a decent tool.

I have heated gear, and a wire coming out of the front of the seat to plug in. I kept it short as to not get in the way, but this stopped me standing up so the solution I had was this. Lengthen the wire from the seat, wrap it around a 12mm Allan key then heat it with a hairdryer. After that let it cool and it ended up like an old telephone wire, thus keeping it coiled but expandable for standing. Only a small tip but might be helpful to someone 👍

I once thought it was a good idea to build up a collection of bikes ,but found bikes need to be ridden ,as standing around is not good for them . Seals tend to go as they get stuck to output shafts & clutch push rods & can damage under start up ,& fluids can decay & cause internal corrosion on internal parts . Manufacturers like BMW & triumph use their punters to finish testing their bikes ,in the hopes they don’t get too many call backs ,before the warranty runs out . That’s why they have to charge a high prices for their bikes , to cover the fancy carpeted car like showrooms ,the punters waiting coffee lounge areas ,& loan bikes ,while they fit yet even more bodges ,that they should of had well sorted before making them available to the public . The way I see it ,if you are paying the kind of prices BMW & Triumph are overcharging ,their products should be 100% perfect with no need for recalls or after factory bodges ,

The Road 6 tires are great. I’ve even done a few track days on my 1250 GSA just for fun. I have AirTags on my bikes and, as others have mentioned, it’s not so much about where you live as it is where your bike goes and/or is parked away from home. The trackers are great for that. I was one of zillions whose luggage was left behind last summer, and I could literally see exactly where my bag was in Schiphol, including where it was moved after that on the journey to LAX. On my bikes, the app consistently alerts me that, e.g., my R1250 GSA has been left behind (meaning I’ve parked and walked away), and the positioning is very accurate.

I know the feeling with having a bike that is more of a garage queen, my Moto Guzzi V7 is exactly that and although it is an absolutely unique motorcycle after the custom work I've done to it, I am probably gonna sell it this year to free up some cash, same with a few of my other bikes as they just don't get used enough. You have a wonderful selection of bikes to ride there Andy. I'm just going through getting my bikes back on the road.... had to MoT 2 of them last week, still got to MoT the V7 and the CB100N, but had to charge the battery on the V7... should have followed your example and plugged it in to an Optimate.

Enjoyed the video, regarding the Triumph oil leak, I have a 2011 Bonneville 865 SE which I bought 3 years old with 2,300 miles on it, it`s now done over 21,000 miles and does not leak a drop of oil and it`s not even needed a very expensive rear suspension replacement either.

Andy, in terms of any kind of Bluetooth connectivity, it’s always advisable to use the bike as the Hub for connectivity, the BMW GS is the same, pair your phone to the bike, pair your headset to the Bike, and your GPS to the bike, works every time 👍

Great vid as usual. Had an oil leak on my 2020 speed twin in the same area. Try unplugging the electrical connector on the rectifier (where the oil is leaking from) as you may find the plug is full of oil. If it is mine was rectified as a recall from my local Triumph dealer in Oxford. Hope it helps.

Hi Andy, I noticed you finally bit the bullet and bought a 'personalised plate'. Remember I suggested you do this about 2 years ago. ;). I had a repetitive oil leak on a BMW GS 310, 3 services and they never resolved the issue. I noticed that after a ride the oil level would rise (obviously) and when you put the bike on the side stand the oil level (sight glass) would rise to the over the overflow line and the oil overflow pipe would do it's job!!!!

Mr. Flyer, re. the oil leak under the Triumph, if you find it's from the sump bung, rather than an engine casing, try cutting out a ring of gasket paper, as well as using a new sump washer. I always change my own oil and filter, both car and bike, but have in the past found that the supposed torque settings for sump bolts have been ignored in favour of 'feel' by some mechanics, whose sensitivity was on par with that of a migraine afflicted King Kong. If that is the case for you, a slight lip may have been cut into the sump. Worth a look. Try putting some cardboard underneath to find out the source of the leak.

Hey TMF! Recalls. Bloody nightmare. I had one for the hard cases on my Africa Twin. Apparently, some people hadn’t been attaching their cases properly so Honda wanted me to ride the bike to their dealership, with the cases attached, to show me how to attach the cases, so I could ride back home again and then put them back in the garage. Safe to say I filed that one in the bin.

I’m impressed you’ve managed to keep the GS for almost 10 years and aside from rear-shock-gate it’s been pretty faultless. I’ve seen more corrosion on 1-2 year-old BMW bikes so it’s good going. You can’t sell the Ducati even if you just look at it!

Hi Andy, the oil leak on the Triumph could be over zealous use of chain lube. It flings up on to a hot part of the engine near the front sprocket and then "melts" on to the floor. Had a similar problem with a T120 I used to own. A good clean around the front sprocket, and less chain lube solved the problem. Initially I thought it was engine oil. Just a thought? Cheers, Jon.

Similar event happened to me a few days ago; I catastrophized an oil leak, turned out to be a dribble of chain oil. That said, until I pissed off too many friends, I used to get a kick out of putting a few drops of black coffee under their parked bike followed up by a well timed “oh, oh, look at that . . .”

On my Bobber there was an oil leak from where the alternator power wire exits the alternator cover. It has a rubber grommet behind the cover which is hard to check since its hidden by the cover, but a few people have had oil migrate from this point.

Hi, just seen your garage tour. Interesting about your speed twin oil leak. I have a T120 , which appeared to have an oil leak on the right hand side, on a intermittent basis, it looks as though it is not a leak from the engine, but excess chain grease from the drive sprocket! It appears to happen shortly after the chain has been greased and the bike driven a few miles, then parked back in the garage. Enjoy your videos, mind you would love to see you tour on the speed twin with Mrs flyer, we took our T120 to the outer Hebrides and north Scotland for 2 weeks! We have leather panniers, tank bag and roll top bag and the rack. Simon (Chelmsford)

Pretty funny how one SATNAV is great and another is not so good and you want it to go away. I updated my three bikes to a common Garmin XT. I can swap the Garmin XT off and on each bike and even swap helmets. Which have 4 different comms units. That is pretty hot stuff in my book. I use an Iphone 11ProMax and it hooks up pretty good with the satnav XT. I did have a little problem with the SENA unit in my SHuberth C4 Pro dropping out on the last ride. I will need to investigate that one.

Sometimes having just one isn't bad. You get to know it much better. I get a damn bad case of the Hevvie Jeebies when I look around and see blank parking places. Hell, that won't work. I've had five or more at once, mainly BMW's. Now I have a mix of all kinds and ATV's. Come by, we'll go riding in the mountains of east KY. Still learning them much as you are. Anything from a Honda CRF 100 to a Tenere T700, KTM 1190RC8R. and other BMW's. Now the so called garage queen KTM may not get many miles like your DUC but it is a hell of a lot of fun when I do. I wanted that bike for several years and finally bought one in Fairbanks, AK while on a work assignment. Shipped it home ($1000/one week) and absolutely love it. What's not to like about 187 RW HP. Sub 400 lbs. It takes three maybe four days to get over a ride. Kind of like throttling up the Space Shuttle. You have to settle your ass back down some to reality. So always keep the DUC. When they leave they generally don't come back easily if at all. Thinking I'm needing a Triumph Twin 1200 as well. Maybe the high buck Thurxton Ohlins equipped one. Hoping for a 1300/1400 BMW RS in the next year. Take care, be safe. It's not summer. Don'y let crappy roads catch you out. Lost several friends this time of year.
