I started using Lechuza pon almost 2 years ago with my Calathea. I bought Lechuza’s self watering pots. The Calathea thrived and so I went down the rabbit hole! I have most of my plants in pon. Syngomium, Alocasia, Hoya, asparagus fern, Philodendron, string of hearts, Monstera. I use self watering pots that I put together myself using nursery or orchid pots and cache pot and also Lechuza’s pots. I want to convert my 4 foot Alocasia regal shield and my giant philodendron burle marx to pon but alas, I am waiting for a restock on Lechuza website. I use Dyna gro grow or foliage pro to fertilize my pon plants after 6 months. Almost most of my plants were easy to convert to pon. I also have plants in just pumice which are doing well. I got the idea from The Swedish Plant Guys on KZbin.

How do you find the transition period for calatheas and ferns? I’m nervous to convert my calathea as they are sensitive to anything done to their roots!

Thanks so much for all this info! I thought rooting in pon should work just as well as perlite or leca, but couldn't find any information on it. I did it very hesitantly anyway just a couple days ago, so I'm glad to finally hear something about it and feel more confident about my decision.

Thank you for this video and information. I am a new plant mom and am putting some of my plants in pon and self-watering pots with wicks. I have a few questions: I'm guessing you have to wash the pon every once in a while because fungus or green stuff will grow in it? How often do you wash your pon? How often do you change the water reservoir in the self-watering pots? And, do you think a burle marx philodendron will do well in pon? Thank you!

Hey Cyril I have a few questions obviously about lechuza pon. So I have plants in the pon I watered and let the dust drain off. I don't have any of them in self watering pots. They are in gardening pots some are in leca pots. Some are on deep trays some are sitting in bottles and containers. So here is my question do I leave an amount of water in these things, or do I water over sink and then just let them dry for a few days. I know with leca that I left water in the bottom because they dry very fast. But I am very new to pon .

You are so adorable! I was looking for information on using self-watering pots for hoyas and came across your video. I didn't know about lechuza pon until this video. I'm currently using self-watering pots with soil and some in leca (wicked and non-wicked) and I have yet to find a true substrate that would make my plants thrive. I wanted to convert all my plants to leca to avoid the annoying gnats that gravitate to moist soil. I found out however, that some plants survive in leca but do not really thrive. Now you got me curious about lechuza pon! Thank you for the video!

Thank you so much for the info you provide in this video! I really would like to transfer my plants in soil into Lechuza pon and I have recently purchased a bag to try it out. I would like to reuse my ceramic pots with drainage holes as the water container as you have done for your Anthurium in your IKEA planter. How did you seal up your IKEA planted drainage hole for your Anthurium? I would like to reuse my ceramic for the water reservoir but have no idea how to plug up the drainage hole and wondered if there is any sealing tape or something that you use or are aware of that you could recommend. Thank you! 🪴

How about when you buy the bigger lachuza planter it come with just enough pon for the bottom and than you fill the rest with soil. Have you tried that? Pon on the bottom of self watering planter than the rest with soil vs all pon.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Pon has some fertilizer in it, correct. Does it have to be refreshed or add nutrients after a period of time?
@CyrilCybernated
@CyrilCybernated 3 жыл бұрын
Welcome! Yes it has slow release fertilizer incorporated. You can top it up. I usually water my plants with diluted fertilizer during the growing season so I find myself putting some of that same solution in the reservoir too

Thank you for the video! I have been experimenting with Pon. Are you removing all of the soil before planting in Pon?
@CyrilCybernated
@CyrilCybernated 3 жыл бұрын
Welcome! Yes. You have to power wash the roots. The left over soil caused some issues not immediately but usually happens in 3-6 months probably caused by the changes in season

when you first transfer to Pon , it mentions to water like usual. so do you do that for a while then just let the Lechuza pot do its thing or do you generally transfer and just fill the resevoir? thank you for your video!! so helpful!

When I started from cuttings I keep them in containers with no drainage and just spray them until a reservoir is formed at the bottom. Then when they are established I maintain the reservoir. The wicking system works best for me.
@pamperedreality
@pamperedreality 2 жыл бұрын
This video is so informative! For your wicking system that just has a single wick, do you lay the wick horizontally at the bottom of the pot, or vertically so it comes up nearly to the surface of the substrate?
@CyrilCybernated
@CyrilCybernated 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I try to keep it in a U shape and it has to rest at the bottom and not be on top.

@@CyrilCybernated Thank you so much for responding! Could I ask for your hoyas that like to dry out, do you let the resevoir run dry and wait a couple of days before you refill, or do you always keep some water in the resevoir?

After moving your hoyas to pon with a self watering pot, do you water from the top or from the water reservoir?

I have algae growing in some of my pon planters and leca too but so far they are harmless for me. Although it doesn’t look cute to have algae in pots especially the plastic self watering ones, but they are easy to clean up 🧽
