I’m just trying to get you to think of all your options. I was taught, when brainstorming, write down ALL potential ideas, no matter how wacky they are. That gets those ideas down on paper and out of your head, and frees your head up to come up with your eventual solution.

Imo: Raaco on the tables. Hang shelves on the wall above those Raaco units; there's your new display space. And stack the Sterilite where the shelves are now. Then you have an efficient + good looking system on (and above) the tables and the sterilite for less used stuff a bit off to the side.

Im looking forward to seeing how you organize the new storage
@jonasl65453 сағат бұрын
You can try to place the Raaco shelves on top of the old system. Maybe that's a better solution:)
@BrickStudioArchitect2 сағат бұрын
That's what I was thinking, maybe 6 drawers of Sterlite and the Raaco on top of those.

I have been resorting our Lego collection. I understand your frustration. 😅 I sort into general groups and then break each group into part type. As drawers fill up I separate out the color I have the most of. If I have overflow, it goes in a Ziploc and into clear shoebox bins. I like the drawers for sorting out the smallest parts. If I was in your position, I would start with tiles to the far left and work to the right. I would go smallest to largest. I would move to plate modified next. Then simply duplicate that pattern top to bottom for each color or color group. Example all shades of blue could go together. Use medium sized drawers for 1x plate and larger drawers for 2x plate. I would use the old drawer system for larger parts. Example, 1x brick, 2x brick, etc. The more you break down the collection, the more storage you need. You need to find a happy medium and develop a system that fits your needs. It would also be beneficial to leave a drawer or two per row empty for expansion. Lego is always releasing new parts. Or you could pull out an empty drawer when sorting out part type. That drawer could be used for assorted colors and be a temporary holding area until you get enough to sort it all down by color. Everyone's brain works different and there is no right or wrong way to sort or store Lego. I hope I gave you some ideas you can use.

If you stretch the old system lower all the way across the table you could stack the new system on top all the way across!

As someone who has 2 walls covered in Akro Mills drawers, keep the large white sterilite drawers for parts u have a bunch of. U will definitely need them eventually. I know I did

I heard that like LEGO, you can never have too much storage.

I use storage drawers like your new ones, I organize by part type, for bigger plates and bricks I use the same system with bigger drawers. I keep lots of the same parts in bags if they are for mills or a particular project, which I keep in a Lego box. You should look up labels for them, it helps you sort!

Are your drawers Raaco? If so, were you able to stack them?
@drakos84632 сағат бұрын
Hello! I'd have the Raacos under the table (they look good there), or you can use non-slip liners between them, if you don't want to double-sided tape them together! Chances are your wife already has some in the house. I know I do, lol!!
@roonis4182 сағат бұрын
You should glue, tape, or print a picture of the piece that's in that drawer so you can quickly find the pieces you need.
@sithstudz3 сағат бұрын
You could use command strips or double sided sticky tape but then it won’t be as easy to move each one separately but thought I’d comment that idea

I have 3 sets of Sterilite drawers across the bottom and akro mills style drawers across the top . If you want to stack the raaco drawers you could cut pieces of wood that would fit in the bottom of the unit and mount it to the top of the lower unit using the holes.
@BCARROLL535Сағат бұрын
I also use the Velcro command strips to attach the top of the akro drawers to the wall just to help keep them from falling forward.

You could put shelves above the staralight drawers to display ninjago city and the other lego sets? Great video
@ElectricianTS6 минут бұрын
The old system is better. I also have the smaller storage cabinets. They're good for the tiny pieces. The bigger shelves allow you to search for pieces alot easier without having to pour them onto the table.

I’m afraid I prefer the look of the white ones.

I also use the craftsman drawers from lowes and the stanley drawers from home depot. They are same units just different sticker on front. They stack well and can get different sizes as well. They also are cheaper than the akro mils ones

I’m kind of committed to Sterilite or Raaco at this point. I really wish they stacked. I did email them and am waiting for a response.

Welp, I don’t know! It is nice that they give you a little more table space but I’m sure that means you’re loosing storage at that cost. Oof. No answers but maybe this is a good January project and problem? 😅

@janellemiller11952 сағат бұрын
I would use the new drawers under tables as they seen to fit nicely compared to your table height. I would keep your existing storages drawers. A couple of new bookcases for the storage units ,could work nicely.
@brickitect2 сағат бұрын
Can’t do under the table because we have heat units that run along the wall. Also I think reaching in the air is much better than climbing under the table.
@janellemiller11952 сағат бұрын
@@brickitect I was thinking of having the storage line directly under the table ,not pushed all the way under to the wall.

@tylerpeterson46843 сағат бұрын
This is definitely a stretch, but I wonder if you could stack a Raaco container on top of a couple Sterilite ones. Probably not, but it is what popped in my mind.
@brickitect2 сағат бұрын
I’m not loving that plan, but it would get my desired height and mix the two systems nicely.
@aliciapozzo994751 минут бұрын
once you put the parts in the ne drawers you wont need as many sterilite containers

It's a shame that Raaco sent single examples of the different types of their storage in their line. I imagine that these cabinets would be more useful to you if you were using them to fit your vision, rather than having to fit your vision into what was sent you. (The cabinets look wonderful!)
@beth7467Сағат бұрын
Replying to myself to add that even though they sent you all these doesn't mean you've committed to using them. Or does it? It seems to me that if you are satisfied with your current storage system you should continue you with it, rather than adapting your needs to a different system.
@beth7467Сағат бұрын
And another reply. You could put display shelves above the storage on your table, and then the current display shelves next to the bar could be converted into housing the Raaco cabinets.
@jedilegoarts98822 сағат бұрын
Put the new ones under the table maybe?
@AricBolf3 сағат бұрын
Your design assumption is the storage units have to be sitting on the table like your old system. And it seems like you’re forcing the new system to fit into that. Think outside the box for other designs. My question is, why do they have to be on the table? Look up what others are doing to maybe get some ideas.
@brickitect2 сағат бұрын
They’re either sitting on the table or mounted on the wall. As I mentioned in the video, I don’t want to mount them on the wall. I already suggested putting them on a shelf or converting one of my lego display bookshelves. If you have an out of the box idea to make them levitate or stick together with some rare earth magnets, throw your plan out there haha

@@brickitect what if, instead of your brick land amusement park being on a table, if the Graco were placed on the floor in a rectangular fashion and a sheet of plywood placed on top to make the table?

There are holes on top of the Raaco boxes, if there are holes on the botom then could you not use bolt and nut connection?
