Very helpful and motivating introduction to lever locks. Trying to make going through the LPU belts my top lockpicking goal right now, but lever locks and disc detainers are right up there. One thing I have not seen for disc detainers or lever locks is a "beginner set" anywhere. Practice lock and the picks to open it. That I would be willing to pay for. I do like the picks you made there, nice work!

The journey has begun 😂🎉🎊 I tend to use 3 sizes of wire: 1.6mm 1.4mm 1.2mm The 1.2 isn't amazingly strong but good for those small cabinet locks and to use with tension wrenches where there's not much room in the keyway. Love the lollipop handles they are awesome. You can bend each end of the pick wire to a different height and use it in the lollipop handle. That's a fantastic way to save wire. For the piped keys and bent nail to make a tension wrench I don't file it all the way down. I leave most of the metal in place and cut a groove so the pick wire can slide down it. It tends to hold the wire nice and straight and stops it moving around as it lifts levers. Oh yes, regarding the upstand at the end of the tension tool. I either use a 2mm hole and a small nail or another piece of piano wire that's about 2mm. I then silver solder it in place. If you're going down the silver solder root find wire with a good amount of silver in it. The other thing is, although more expensive is easy flo flux, it works so well. I've got some 440's that's not that difficult to open and other 440's that's an avails pain. With all that said NigBee.... enjoy the journey and Merry Christmas.

@@roysammons2445 Cheers Roy. I will look out for some 1.6mm as that could be a really useful size. Tried the grooved tension tool but my upstand broke on that one, finally got it to work with the shank of a 2mm HSS bit but my nail is getting soft now.

@@BeercanBushcraftMy old dad used to make model aircraft and model steam engines. As a kid I was facinated by his soldering techniques. Making tubes and soldering smaller ruined in it and a box for a Firefox. I could sit for hours just watching him work. He only has a small lathe so used it to make a larger lathe 😂.

@@NIGBEE-lock-bothering I still a 2mm hole and the nail I use as the upstand is slightly larger than 2mm so grind the end just enough to go in the hole. When it's silver soldered the excess solder strengthens it. It may then need a slight file on the silver solder at the base of the upstand nail but it's usually string. I haven't had one break yet. I also quench it in cold water which helps stop it bending.

@roysammons2445 when I was a lad I was into control line model aeroplanes and used to make fuel tanks out of tin with brass tubing - soldering them up used to be a blooming nightmare, but it taught me a lot. I made a model steam engine from a kit, I must've been about 13, I swapped it for a a Bowie knife 😂😂😂 Cheers mate 👍 🍻 🍻

Great video and welcome to the rabbit hole! 🙂 TBH Even a good dedicated padlock pickset won't pick everything. Cutdown keys for tensioners are a good and cheap way to go, plus by bending your own wires it can end up cheaper that other Locksport pursuits. Thanks for sharing. Edit: 1.6mm piano wire seems to be a popular choice. Model shops are also good for sourcing wire and tubes from.

Coming along very nicely my friend. I'm loving those homemade lollipop handles, they're fantastic. Silverline and Masterlock also do models the same as the 440, the Masterlock in this instance is slightly harder as it has stronger Spring. Neither has false gates so also good to learn on. Also sometimes it pays to get a bit of tension on them ever so slightly pull the tensioner back to help tension the lever pack.(All in my back catalogue )Hope that helps. Great video and picking and happy Christmas mate 👌🤜🤛🫶🍻😊

@NIGBEE-lock-bothering I didn't know if you knew mate. You'll be on wallsall and cruisers in time , your style is really coming along very nicely. I thought you be good, holding a wire isn't too dissimilar to a dimple flag with your finger placement sometimes . Loving it🫶🍻🤘
