In today's video I use a LiDAR scanner app to turn my office into a VR Game with the Oculus Quest 2. This demo also uses the Unity Oculus Integration and Hand Tracking features which show you the starting point of how to make a vr game in Unity with a LiDAR 3D Mesh.

Not too bad I dev in VR for mining heritage and coal mining safety training and looked at Lidar and Matterport briefly but the scans werent that great and high poly count obviously. For anything precise it still has a way to go to make it as effective and efficient as manual modelling & texturing can. But there are certain 360 shots I sometimes want in 360 photos but they do not scale correctly to life size. Ideally 360 photos scans that produce a scaled environment would suit me better as many I use simply for visual not interactive. Might I ask you a few questions .. What was the poly count of the scan? What was scan file output size in Mb? How long did it take the app to convert to a useable model format i.e FB or collada etc. ?

That's a very good starting point that you set up here, for a lot of different possible applications and experiences. It's good to see the LIDAR in action. For a more interactable environment, I guess every single object needs to be scanned separately.

Thanks for your feedback and yes you would need to scan each object separately which to be honest makes more sense for a VR experience to be fun :)

Cool video man! Did you ever find a way in AR Foundation to get a 2D texture from the video feed, to apply on the LIDAR 3D scan?

As far as I can tell, ARKit doesn’t expose it yet which is why is not available in AR Foundation, I will cover it once it is available :) good question !

This is a great and fun project, may I ask you which app did you use to scan the room in iOS?

I used one called “Scaniverse” I also like to use “Polycam” however I had a few issues with that one on larger scans. Thanks for your feedback !

This is only available for iOS due to the LiDAR requirement, but great question !

Is there a way to do this if you are on a windows development platform and using iPad lidar scan?

I did this in windows, I sent the scan result to my email and then downloaded it to my PC :)

How can I make a scan with the texture with lidar? I know how to apply a mesh but not how to take the texture from the environment

Good question, there are online services that allow you to upload them and wait for processing.

@@dilmerv ok thanks ill dig around. Currently I just made my VR room in unity by eyeballing it. Worked fairly well but having my desk and monitors perfectly placed would be nice.
