Noise musician Joke Lanz has a loyal fan base. And a dreadful image: he’s known to have himself suspended from a butcher’s hook or whipped on stage. And for most people his music is nothing but painful noise. How can anyone end up living like this? This documentary film explores the life of a sensitive artist who has been haunted for decades by a trauma: when he was 13 his father shot himself on the roof of their house. Ever since, Joke has been trying to come to terms with this. This also applies to his own role as a father, which is equally fraught with problems for him. His art is his personal source of meditation.
