I pass through training school and Outward Bound Sea School. Then the ships I sailed on as cadet, and onwards till it gets to cine camera footage.

Thanks for taking the time to post the film Ray. I worked in the shipping business ashore and recognised many of the Palm line ships in your video. I think the last one I ever shipped cargo to West Africa on was the Apapa Palm. My later father was a merchant seaman from Liverpool. According to his discharge book,he did one trip on the Esso Exeter from Fawley to Aruba in April 1962,and like you, tankers weren't for him. He returned to general cargo vessels, mainly with Harrison Line and finished his career with Cunard in 1965.

Oh the memories Ray! Many thanks for putting all your cine films together and giving us old codgers some nostalgia. I went to sea in 1963 and finally retired in 2006. General cargo ships, Bulk carriers, Anchor handling/supply ships, Drill ships, Jackup rigs, Semi submersibles, Lighthouse ships and finally Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency for 6 years. Good luck to you in your retirement.

Great Video Ray such a shame all the great ships, shipping companies and seaman have all sadly gone.. the demise of our once great merchant fleet was ❤ breaking.. I’ve been going to sea for 46 years only a few British ships left RFA the biggest employer and they are struggling to crew their ships. 🧑🍳🧑🍳🫡🫡
