when I was about 20 years old, my father told me casually over coffee one day... "anyone can make a baby, but only a father or mother can raise a baby." That was the most powerful statement my father ever made to me. He adopted me when I was 1 month old. Things were set into motion when he was a young man in the service and was helping out at a local orphanage. A little girl tugged on his pant legged and looked up at him asking, "are you my daddy?" That one innocent question, from that little girl, change everything for me and later my my little brother, when I was 10 years old; my family adopted him as well.

I know exactly how she feels. I was adopted by both my mom and dad in 1986 when I was 4 and a half. The first years of my life were filled with physical and emotional abuse from both my biological parents as well as foster parents. I didn't know what love was, all I knew was pain and rejection. I didn't know where to find love, but love knew where I was. I have been happily adopted now for 32 years, and I thank God for sending to me my real mom and dad. This man, is a hero in his daughter's eyes. If I were to ever meet him, I would salute him, and tell him "thank you for loving another child so much to call her your very own." May God bless him, his wife, and their daughter.

I love how this video begins with this guy seemingly beat after a long working day (or simply an extremely laid back personality type) and being nonplussed while trudging from clue to clue, and then responding lovingly to his wonderful daughter while also stoically giving her time and space to finish reading her full message. My throat tightened and my eyes filled.

My dad came into my life when I was just a pup, he raised me, taught me everything I needed to become a man. He never adopted me but that's OK. I miss him very, very much, when in working on cars, welding, driving nails or anything I do, I think of him and am very thankful for having him in my life. He was tough but I look back on it now and I see. Great video, well done. 💕

The truth of it is in the time we give. Not just occasionally, but every day. We may be gruff, grumpy, ornery, or down right cantankerous, but we're there. Always. Michael, just so you know, we're better people because of you. In what we learn about parenting, and ourselves. And of course, about love. Because of you. We may not be able to articulate it, but what you give is precious beyond measure.

My father lived in the same town and never was a dad. I didn't invite him to my wedding. My mother walked me down the aisle. He died all alone with all of his 8 children living in the city. I made sure my husband wanted to be a dad before I married him. Step parents can be the greatest gift to a child. I had always wished my mother had remarried. This was one of the best videos I have every seen.
