ROUND-BREAKING AI BRINGS HISTORY TO LIFE - NEW EXHIBITION UNVEILS THE UNTOLD STORY OF A GILDED AGE AMERICAN HEIRESS.
A new exhibition offers a glimpse into the captivating world of Alberta Sturges Montagu, the 9th Countess of Sandwich, and an American Heiress from the renowned era known as The Gilded Age.
Curated by Mapperton’s very own American Viscountess, Julie Montagu, the "American Heiress" collection is comprised of more than 10,000 previously unseen letters exchanged between Alberta (Sturges) Montagu and her family, as well as the peerage at large.
Dating from 1888 to 1951, these letters constitute the largest unpublished private collection of correspondence from the period. They offer a remarkable glimpse into the life of a "dollar bride" during the Gilded Age, shedding light on both triumphs and struggles.
The exhibition will explore Alberta's formative years in America, her upbringing in Chicago and New York, and the significance of her inheritance. Visitors will unravel the captivating courtship between Alberta and George Montagu, the future 9th Earl of Sandwich, leading to their marriage in 1905 in London. The narrative will culminate with her relocation to Hinchingbrooke House, the original family seat, in 1916 as the new Countess, following the death of the 8th Earl of Sandwich.
The exhibition takes innovation to the next level by introducing Alberta AI, a ground-breaking creation that brings her story to life like never before.
“With the aid of cutting-edge AI technology, we've resurrected Alberta's voice, allowing her to answer visitors’ burning questions about her remarkable journey,” says Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke.

You need to clip the new stems at the bottom of your olive trees. They drain the minerals out of the tree. I realize it looks like it's growing but you want it to grow up and then out. Love your villa. Exciting😊

Yes, you might want to trim the suckers- they can create an interesting shape when trees are old and in the ground, but either way will inhibit growth at the top. They can be a sign they need more water, but can just happen sometimes too.

Sorry I’m with Luke -I think the contrasting one at the end. There’s a lot of blue on the sofa and the tiles. I think the chair should be, flowery with diff colours to give it a whole different look to everything else. I love that antique shop, the picture frames for 5 Euro were beautiful. I know it’s plastic, but get big empty water bottles and piece a small hole on the cap, tie it to your olive trees and gets, it’ll give them just the right amount of water for a few weeks. I do this when I’m going on holiday for (2 weeks) and it’s helped them stay hydrated. I absolutely love the floor in the kitchen, it’s gorgeous. Can’t wait for more xx

With the olive trees, I’d take the shoots off at the base and I’d also prune the growing tips of each branch to encourage more side shoots and for them to thicken up you don’t want them much more taller than what they currently are
@kivy5257
@kivy5257 9 күн бұрын
Agreed. My understanding regarding those shoots at the base are due to lack of sufficient water. This is what a local arborist advised for my own olive tree at home.

Before you leave Italy, try to find those glass water bulbs that you fill up with water and then turn upside down and stick intp the soil so they slowly release the water into the pots. I think you can do the same thing with a plastic bottle. Just need to attach a hard tube at the bottom of it and the water drips out slowly overtime. This should keep the herbs watered when you’re gone. Good luck!
@gnarbeljo8980

Any water source placed higher than the pots with a cotton string through a plastic tube is a solid drip irrigatior. Yoi just want to vover the waterbucket so the water doesn't get boiling hot in the sun and burns the plants ( or evaporates).
@katbar6066

Loved the Antiques that you bought. With the Olive Trees... are they a grafted variety? If so you need to cut off those bottom shoots and everything growing below the graft or the plant will revert to whatever the root stock was, which is usually inferior to the grafted portion. To support the trees place one cane either side of the tree and get some gardening tape and tie a figure 8 so the tree is supported. It will ensure the tree grows strongly and upright. The herb garden is a great idea. Rosemary needs very little water and the smell of the Rosemary & Thyme will be lovely as you enjoy drinks on the Terrace.

Definitely #1 for the curtains. Just an idea for the chair. If you were planning on sanding and refinishing the arms of the chair anyway, what if you left them open and exposed, and just upholstered down the middle part of the chair. Take it from an upholsterer... that would be much easier to do for a first time upholstery project. I also agree with @maggirae1961, I would do a solid color so you don't have to much pattern going on in the kitchen.

Fabric #1 for the curtains. I agree with doing the Edwardian chair in a solid linen, and then if you choose to do hand stenciled patterns, make pillows for your chairs and even for the sofa. You can mix and match patterns and switch as the mood moves you. If you make the chair in the same tone of sage as your cupboards and the drapes, it will tie it all together.

#1 and marble table top are my favs. What a lovely and enjoyable video. Thank you for sharing. I am an American, and the facts of life here in much of this geographically vast country are, home security is important if you are gone alot and do not have the joy of neighbors who are home, willing and able to keep an eye on your place when you are away. This is just a factual concern of life here even in many small towns. It seems that a viewer expressing concern about security based on what they know from their personal experience likely comes from a place of caring. Gentle enlightenment WITHOUT condescension, letting fellow viewers here know that your personal experience is there are no home break-in or theft crimes to be concerned about in small towns in Italy would feel kinder and be much appreciated. ❤ I watch other KZbinrs based in Italy and Portugal, and they seem aware and careful about appropriate security especially given they are very active on social media. ❤

Oh, how I want to go with you on your treasure hunts! That wrapped wine bottle would make a fantastic lamp! I LOVE that wicker chair you found with the green bits! Now, as for curtains for that window... You have that marvelous blue patterned tile, and that fabulous herringbone design floor, and what looks like a solid medium blue denim looking sofa. Those patterns do not need to fight with stripes! My recommendation would be for cafe' curtains about half way up the window, leaving the top part open so you can see the sky. A very light weight eggshell-white linen with a great texture would be enough 'pattern' and in keeping with the classic, ageless Italian kitchen. That would provide the privacy factor while letting in almost all of the light during the day. Of course, then at the very end, you pulled out that lovely eyelet fabric to make cafe' curtains! You were reading my mind! As for the Edwardian arm chair -- do the sanding of the bare wood, using a wood filler to hide the nail holes, and re-stain any wood that would be exposed. Do the build-up of the stuffing, and use a washed, pre-shrunk unbleached cotton muslin or a natural linen to hold in the stuffing. Wait on the outer layer of fabric until the walls, sofa, cabinetry are finished to decide what would work best. My feeling is too many different colors and patterns would look like a hodge podge of tossing different things together looking more like a hand-me-down room. Depending on if you want to keep those wood arms bare, you may decide on a slip cover that you can switch up based on the season! I can hardly wait until you are finished! Julie, you are doing a fantastic job!

My Italien great grandmother crocheted scallops the same as on the shelf, just a tad smaller. I edged my wedding gown with it. Kicking myself for not removing it from the gown, when I got divorced.

Greetings Countess, Your floor is gorgeous. Your walls are staying creamy I hope. I'm not too keene on green cupboards; what about a light blue that would harmonize with the sofa fabric and striped canvas window treatment? I'd also pull in yellow as it is a complimentary color to blue would be a pretty and cheerful accent. I wouldn't put green in the kitchen at all but have the blue cupboards the same intensity as the colors in your living room. I'd also dip your white cafe curtains in tea to make them not such a stark white. I'm loving your villa. It gives me inspiration for my beach home in Florida I just bought.

I see, the skirting board is not possible because the wall is not level. I would go with your choise in fabric ! Perfect !

I like what Luke chose: # 1 and the last choice. He has good taste. I don’t like the stripes that are too close to each other because it becomes to busy.

Julie lady after my own heart - after being a vintage dealer and collector for more years than i care to remember the thrill of what you might find never leaves you ….. love the floor and the cupboard- most deff no 1 for the curtains - love the cafe curtains if youre going to sit with a coffee in your PJs 😅….. the little table i think would look super with a glass top then you can see the lovely shape to the table legs etc and wont make the room seem cluttered - looking forward to seeing it all come together im half way through my kitchen need a burst of energy to finish it - thanks for sharing ❤❤

House is coming together! Kudos on all the hard work. Kitchen floor was total win and you won't miss the terra cotta maintenance. Suggest watching a video on pruning your olive trees as I think those small shoots might be suckers that are actually depleting energy from the rest of your tree and could also possibly be indicative of insufficient water for the trees (even if you left a few DIY wine bottle watering setup on your trees and for the herbs it might really help once the weather gets hotter - just google DIY bottle watering for pots). IDK olive trees as we grow apples but for our trees those bottom shoots are immediately removed. Liked fabric 1 and 7 for the curtains. Also suggest replacing the wool batting in your chair and actually I would replace the horsehair unless its not in your budget as both these items will make the chair more comfortable and you are doing so much work to recover the chair imo it makes sense to give the new fabric a proper new foundation that will last for years and years. Good luck and I hope you had more time to enjoy your casa!

The kitchen will be wonderful! Just to be a bit opposite, I would skip the curtain rod altogether and just go for the cafe curtain - it’s absolutely gorgeous! As a Swede, I always want to let in as much light as possible and otherwise go for a thin sweeping fabric (which is more typically Mediterranean to me). I love the dark window frames though and didn't want to cover these up. Love the little table and chairs in front of the window. Gorgeous finds from the antique market!

You might consider solid off-white fabric curtains with a 4 to 6 inch border of any of the striped fabrics - run horizontally (from top to bottom) mitered at the bottom and run vertically from side to side. The all over stripes will look wonky when the curtains are gathered (when drawn to the sides). Pinch pleats or gathering is also going to affect the look of the stripes. You might be best to do tabs or rings if you use all striped fabric to keep the striped pattern visible. At the end of the day it's your kitchen do what makes you happy.

That yellow stripe that Luke liked will be great as curtains with the tiles and that new bird plate you purchased, with the blue and yellow!

That was my choice as well. Dark blues are overpowering if there's too much of them. Not that you can't decorate with dark blue as a main colour, but when it's an accent, and accompanied by other colours that are much lighter, it can drown everything else out, and that's all you see is blue bits everywhere. In my opinion anyway. 🙂

Luke is such a sweet and humorous man, you two are wonderful together! I liked #1 the best for the curtains, yes a little too pea green for the reupholstering, what about going neutral and then possibly a throw, small pillow, or even piping to match the green accent on the rattan chair or rather match a color in the curtains. SO many choices! Kitchen is looking great, still excited to see the finished product!! OH, and that antique store...SCORE!

Fabric 1 is great, because the blue tiles are busy. It’s a fair contrast between all the things going on. Windows should be serene 😊

Right decision to remove the stone. For the fabric - single chair - suggest a pattern as the sofa is a large block of plain colour, so the space can take a pattern accent. (What are your dining chairs). The window treatments - you have white cafe curtain, the wall tiles - something to tie this together? Otherwise you have the background colour of the tile, white colour of the cafe fabric and then a different background colour for the curtain…..maybe too much? 🤔

I hang tops, over and peg at armpits so bottoms don’t get misshapen and peg marks, as in the way you hung the jumpsuit. 👏🏼 Pillowcase perfect and you can link with other pillowcases to save pegs if you don’t have many. Don’t leave pegs outside unless they’re on the line. They wear out faster left out. Pants jeans etc at waste band. It’s all trial and error. Love those velvet shoes!! Love love them ❤ What a gorgeous town!

Lots of fun at the antique shop and planning out fabrics. The first curtain looks clean and simple. The muted chair fabric wouldn’t draw too much attention like a bolder color, unless that is desired. You and Luke make a great team!

#1 on fabric for curtain. Lime print or Blue for Chair. Dye white mini curtains blue indigo like tiles. Definitely secure 1st floor kitchen windows with rod iron bars shutters, replace roof glass top door with metal dead bolt for security reasons and/or hire local to ck up on property, like prev comments. White Carrerra Marble top for table. Spray paint feet contrast color. Can't wait for sequel videos!!

I think the title of your vlog should be "Julie conquers Italy". How amazing that you are able to bring us along on your journey of of your little Italian house, an absolute dream. Now I am going to suggest the green curtain that Luke liked, It would be amazing with the fabric you chose for your chair and you could put a contrasting cushion on it. I think the 1st curtain is a safe choice but the other one will make the kitchen cheery and interesting. cant wait to see the end results!
