KP, maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that this episode was about pet death. It's something all kids experience at one point, but something too sensitive to blatantly occur in a children's cartoon. So, instead, they involved all the elements of pet death without Tank actually dying. RD was mourning Tank's death in this episode, not his hibernation. She watched the tortoise that saved her life wear down more and more, until it was too late. She mourned with her friends, and then, well, Tank was buried. And the writers still managed to make the whole story a lighthearted comedy. It's really a brilliant episode.

I have not slept in 35 hours because I was editing this damn video for you. I hereby invoke my right to criticize you relentlessly about your analysis. 0:24 Cloudsdale always moved. It moved in Hurricane Fluttershy too. 0:48 We haven't seen the ponies bring in winter before. Not sure if this counts as continuity. 3:15 How would a turtle hibernate in a cloud? At 0:53, Fluttershy's book even says that tortoises hibernate in the ground. 4:25 No one caught Rainbow Dash. Even the rest of the mane six had no idea, because all they saw was that Rainbow Dash was lying in the snow with Tank. Also, FIRST. Suck it Jordan.

I loved this episode not only because it established a quality illustration of emotional availability on Rainbow Dash's part, and excellent job on catching the stages of grieving in the episode KP, but most of all I have Cadence levels of love for the reflection of Jesus' character in it as well. The perfect man had perfect emotions, meaning He was stoic and felt nothing, but showed real self control knowing when to use each one unselfishly. I'll go into more details when I release the bible study on it, but in John 11 when Jesus cried with Martha over her brother, the crowd's response was an understanding of how much Jesus loved Lazarus. John 11:35-36 "Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!” Thanks for the review KP, grieving is a lesson we all have to learn in properly using our emotions. I'm glad you recognize that and I'm glad as well the episode as always pointed us back to Jesus knowing that just like the Mane 6, He doesn't tell us to endure when we hurt, but He cries with us because He understands what it's like to lose someone even if it was only for a short time. Jesus knew He would raise Lazarus from the dead literally 4 verses later, but it didn't stop Him from showing us that He'll be there to do the same thing when we need Him to. Some people need answers, others just need shoulders. and Jesus offered both. I love Him so much for that and I'm so glad these things are addressed in the show.

I haven’t hurt this good in a long, long time. It really is a great, if exaggerated for the medium, exploration of the 5 stages of grief. It’s another example of this being the season of top notch facial expressions. Fluttershy being the one to get through is a perfect example of the bond they share, and a nice reversal of how things normally go, and it’s just almost perfect. I have some minor nitpicks when it comes to RD facing no repercussions for her actions, but there’s already fics being made to deal with that. Plus, also, while one of these times we do need to see it happen, wouldn't seeing Twilight, her boss, Celestia, Luna, or Spitfire chew her ass out just come across as cruel towards someone in mourning? Let alone if all of them laid into her? I'm going with it's safe to assume they all did (because you can't go sabotaging your own work place and get away with it unscathed, especially if doing so may count as an act of treason!), but it happened off-screen and they decided that since she was under duress they weren't going to be too hard on her.

What you said makes sense, I also believe that the writers could of changed things to where Tank was going to die, and not much would change in the episode. Now the whole crying on the inside thing with AJ isn't healthy to say the least, I think its form her upbringing, how the rest of the apple family acted around her, and how Granny Smith had tried to raise her after her parents died. I also believe that she hasn't truly grieved for them, and that the mane five shouldn't of tried to make RD stop crying, and waited until she had completely got it out of her system.

It's around this point where I realize that reviewers either come to the same conclusions or rip each other off. Although this one had a lot more references in comparison to someone like Firebrand, who seemed to go more in-depth.
