Here’s my newest called My Little Town. Every now and then I have to explain to an out-of-towner why I live where I do (SAN FRANCISCO). So, I decided to try to answer this question in a song. Special thanks to Scott Chowning for sprucing it up with some French Horn.
Lyrics:
I see all the daggers
thrown at my little town
seems to be a mission
to drag it to the ground
For some it ain’t easy
for some it is rough
with the high cost living
the rent can be tough
End of land gladness
end of land sadness
don’t give a damn what people say
don’t need’m here anyway
take the ups with the downs
of the seven hills in my little town
Some are leaving for Texas
some for Idaho
If I had the notion
I wouldn’t know where to go
For this town is a poem
the hills are a rhyme
each block a short story
from another time
If I disappear
you might just find me here
in a rut or in a groove
not a thing left to prove
take the bitter with the sweet
one man tired
one man Beat
I guess it’s the weather
the chill in July
the Indian summers
bring a sheltering sky
There’s people and places
that are gone from the scene
like Ferlinghetti
Enrico’s and The I-Beam
The misfits and dreamers
and people like me
escaping from Shanghai
to the Coast of Barbary
End of land gladness
end of land sadness
I’ll take the bad with the good
there’s mysteries in the fog in my neighborhood
I’ll take the ups with the downs
of the seven hills in my little town
