well because she was different. Not right in the perfect world of oz. Gilinda and Elphaba judged each other when they first met and then when they understood each other's struggles and hardships, they became best friends. Just listen to "for good" If elphaba and Gilinda had never became roomates elphaba's life would have had her probably be her farther's propety and Gilinda would end up with Fieryo. None of the characters we know and love would never had exited if elphaba and gilinda never became roomates

She died in childbirth because Nessa was premature and her husband made her eat these flowers in order for Nessa to not have green skin like Elphaba
