After seeing anime clips of Loving Yamada-kun at lv999, I began reading the manga expecting Akane to fit into one of those exaggerated stereotypes of female anime protagonists (whether that be an overly jubilant FL, an overly monotone FL, an overly quirky FL, an overly angelic FL, etc.) but I was surprised to find that she's just a normal girl. In the anime, she stands out a bit more, but in the manga she's relatable as a regular young woman of the 21st century. There isn't anything that makes her particularly better as a protagonist in this series compared to the other female side characters in it, which makes me think that we all can be the protagonists in our own lives, as well as be the side characters in others'. Yamada wasn't swayed by romantic prospects until it came to Akane, but (I'll say this again) she's a regular girl, not so different from the rest? I say this as a very average girl of the same age as her: Akane is very average (like everyone else), which makes her love story all the more significant to most viewers/readers. I don't know if I'm getting my point across properly.
