Poly Bridge 3 Part 42 - it may shock you how quickly I go up these leaderboards. I thought it would've taken a while to score among the top hitters, but no challenge is proving too great for me right now. These are some well engineered bridges.

low stress is imo only interesting when it is also required you stay within budget. Or at least within _some_ budget (like how in this video he was ok with double-budget bridges - and yes, when half-budget becomes the norm, then it is the budget and the regular one is double-budget ;D)

Going for minimum stress is incredibly NOT engineer-y. Over engineering things will make you as equally unemployable as under engineering things. An engineer's job is to meet their goal as cheaply as possible: Going for lowest budget is most in line with real engineering in that sense. People have a hard time understanding this because the goal of this game is to get a single vehicle to its flag and not operate under a certain amount of weight for a certain amount of years. But you'd get fired pretty quick for designing something that costs twice as much and lasts twice as long - because the people hiring you don't want to spend twice as much and you just wasted their time and money working on a useless (for them) design.

It's so subtle, but often times when Tyler makes a wood muscle, it's edited to be a perfect rhythm of 5 clonks, and I love it. So satisfying. Plus it's done without interrupting what he's saying. e.g. 10:15.

Honestly I am enjoying the low stress more than low budget! Both are interesting for their own reasons but it feels like the prevailing strategy for making a low stress bridge is almost always just… make the bridge good

The contrast between low budget ''bridges'' effectively being one time uses to compared proper bridges, designed by engineers and being usable for hundreds of years is quite vast. But it's nice to see how it creates a very different challenge and it's interesting to see!

Quick tip for stress, for cable stayed bridges, make the big steel at an angle and not straight up, I don’t know how but it does reduce stress and that’s what used to get around 30% on MM-03

I think the color stress mod would also be helpful because it's like the normal stress thing but way more sensitive, and when the simulation is going by, and certain stressors are in different spots, the color stress thing would make it easier to see in different places what's stress when the simulation is playing, so I'd recommend trying it out, but a color might clash with the black numbers, so I'd recommend trying it off camera. Just a thought. Whatever works for you. :)

16:06 This series of videos inspired me to give the low stress leaderboard a shot, I took a hefty bit of inspiration from your design tweaked on it and got #1 on the leaderboard and submitted my replay. It uses a little bit of the node spam cheese to give the bridge the extra flex, helping to lower the stress the extra bit to take top spot.

There's a technical limitation to sorting by stress; iirc, budget is included in the filename for uploaded replays which allows sorting by them, but this is not the case for stress. Perhaps this could still be fixed but would require a replay wipe which I don't think is desirable either, so we're in a bit of an awkward spot. Typically sorting by highest budget and ticking all the boxes of under budget, unbreaking, wins only, nets you any uploaded lowstress solves on the first page. Now that we can see stress% on the thumbnail it doesn't feel tedious to me anymore, but it's admittedly not ideal. 😅

Unfortunately sorting the gallery by stress isn't possible because our gallery host Cloudinary doesn't allow sorting by metadata. We are only able to sort by budget because the budget is encoded in PublicID which can be used for sorting. We requested the ability to do this about a year ago so it's possible that this could be done at a later date but currently it is out of our hands.

​ @alexanderf8451 I don't believe Cloudinary has stated anything, however speaking as a database professional; You generally want to index fields that you expect to be sorted. Without indexing, sorting will require the database to scan the entire dataset. While adding and index is trivial in a custom solution, having user defined meta data makes this more complex, the datatype may not be clear and the number of metadata fields used may be undefined. These are not impossible problems to solve but additional indexes will increase the amount of storage required and decrease efficiency of inserts and updates across the board. My assumption is that our use case is not common enough with their customers to justify significant structural changes to the data required to allow custom sorting options.
