Back in 2012 I woke up one morning to a paralyzed diaphragm (of course, I didn't know this at the time) To make a long story short, my diaphragm was stuck in the relaxed or exhale position thereby significantly reducing my lung capacity making it difficult to breathe and I was easily winded. What my surgeon did was, using the VATS method, went in and simply sewed down my diaphragm a little, making more room in my lung. I'm still easily winded, but regular breathing is nearly as good as normal. The problem is, now whenever I sit, stand and especially walk for too long, I get this unbelievable tighting sensation from the middle of my belly, around to my back where he made his incision. The longer I do any if these things, the more intense my pain becomes. It begins to feel like someone is using their knee?or something, and all there weight to push on my body. Sometimes it's bad enough to take my breath away. Have you experienced anything like this? I hope not. By the way, they put me on a morphine pump after my surgery. That and the 1 1/2" chest tube. What you had sounds way better. Too bad you jumped the gun on your IV though.

@@lovinglaurenx my surgery was successful in regards to the procedure, but I have an underlying condition that made things complicated. I spent a couple of days in the ICU. Pain was not much of an issue. Due to my other condition I wasn't allowed any opioid based meds, so I was only on paracetamol after the first couple of days. Those first days i was on ketamine. I just had mechanical pleurodesis, and it's honestly so amazing that someone recorded their experience with it as well! Ironically, my lung and chest weren't painful. Instead, the anesthetics made me super sick, and the aspirin ended up giving me a stomach ulcer and REALLY BAD mouth ulcers on my tongue and lips. So basically I had adverse reactions to everything that was supposed to help me.

I am so glad to have found your channel 😊 I going through something similar so I can relate to you! Today I'll be getting pleurodesis done as well so I am quite nervous. Two weeks ago, I was diagnosed with pneumothorax( collapsed lungs ) for the third time in a year and was given a chest tube for the treatment (and I still have till now). And on 22 March, I got readmitted to the hospital for the removal of the chest tube. As there is a high chance of the reoccurrence of Pneumothorax in my body, my doctor suggested this procedure to lessen the risk. I have muscle weakness (Neuro-muscular dystrophy disease) all over my body and in my lungs which makes it hard for me to breathe normally like others, especially when I sleep. So I use the BiPAP machine at night and in the day when I am doing any activity. As my condition is worsening day by day, my dependency on my machine has increased which put me at risk for Pneumothorax all the time. Life couldn't get any harder for me😞😞 but I am still hoping for the best🙂🙂 Could you please tell me more about your experience? Did you face any complications after the surgery? I will be getting the procedure done through my chest tube and was told that it might hurt as a side effect.

Im going through this right now. Ive had a collapsed lung before that wasnt to bad. Just over 4 weeks ago i had a full collapse on my right side that turned into a tension pnumathorax and nearly didnt make it as lung put pressure onto my heart and went into cardiac arrest. Luckily i was ok after a stay in hospital and a few pipes ect in to take the air out. My surgery is booked in for the 10th sep18. Have pretty much the same surgery as you. Seeing this has put my mind at rest. The pain relief in the spine bit i will not be offered though.

@@nareksahakyan9616 no, if you had pneumothorax you can get a following pneumothorax. first one i had at 23 in right upper part of lung and my sugeon told me it will not be the last collaps. 3 weeks ago( im 42 now) i had my second pneumothorax but on left upper site. Now im home but in january they will remove both upper parts... The risk for a collaps is maybe a bit bigger if people smoke, but most people with collapsed lung are very sporty and did not smoke ever! It happens mostly to young men( women are rare- like me- and this young lady from video!), people who have leptosome bodytype. Geneticly can be antitrypsin disease the rison but this is only 0,02%- maybe that is my problem, we will test it out- its only sad that my life could have been much better, if my doctors in past habe knew about...therapy is possible(inject antirypsin which the liver dont produce in sufficient amout because that will be important for lung tissue, to stay flexible! You're so lucky, I didn't have an epidural for either of my VATS mechanical pleurodesis procedures (one on each lung). My first, they used ketamine immediately post-op so "I wouldn't remember," but lemme tell you, i remember EVERYTHING and I was writhing and crying and doing my best to tell them i felt like i was dying with my compromised lung capacity. I dont mnowbif its because of my substance abuse history or what, but they left me in aginizing pain wuth no relief for NINE HOURS, by which point I was yanking cords and unplugging things in my desperate and delirious state. Finally after what must have been shift change, someone finally got the memo and got some fentanyl on board. I am typically a model patient: ambulatory if at all possible, independent, and usually spend my time inpatient writing thank you's and filling out positive patient satisfaction questionnaires because it makes me haopy when good folks are rewarded for their work, but you best believe i was livid. Never returned to that hospital sfter discharge, and never will. My second time around, they still used ketamine as part of my anesthesia cocktail of meds, but post-op was handled by a handful of IV meds (including IV Tylenol, which I've never ever heard of in my life, before or since. Has anyone ekse ecer heard of iv Tylenol?) amd a pump that allowed me to dose myself 37.5mcg of fentanyl every 20min or as needed. What a vastly different experience the second time! Titalky different ballgame! Sorry for the novel! But basically TL;DR: I wonder why they didn't place an epidural for me? Id had 3 prior epidurals for labor. I wish I had!

Im jealous that they gave you a epidural. My left lung collapsed for the second time in 3 years and I had a IV that required manual administration of my pain meds. Every time I felt pain I needed to request my nurse 😑I would have loved a epidural. I remember I had nerve pain that started as a burning sensation on my skin of my pectoral muscle..it then traveled to my armpit. This was incredibly excruciating pain and onset randomly and quickly. It sucked having to wait for a nurse to give me my pain meds. For me it was also blebs that caused my lung collapses. I am 3 months removed from my surgery and I’m essentially 100 % but I absolutely notice differences in how my body operates. Im not as long winded and my left side gets achey easily. I’ve also noticed my face feels flush when I exert myself. What if any changes have you noticed since this happened to you?

I've just been discharged after having a left side pleurodesis I was on a fentanyl drip then I was given targine and endone and tapentadolwhen I came off. Went in Monday night and it's now Friday arvo, I leaked about 700ml. Had a 10cm cyst across both sections and another region forming on the bottom section. That had to be irritated.

Hello iv had 2 collapsed lungs in 3months the spontaneous pneumothorax. They told me I might have to go and have the tube in back if it happens again. Carnt remember what it's called. What's best for the pain. And what causes it to keep happening I want to be working and not in hospital all time

Hi, I continued to have lung collapses until I had surgery to correct it and I have not had another since. My lung collapses were caused by blebs on my lungs but it can happen for other reasons. You should consult with your doctor about the cause of yours and the best treatment.

thanks for sharing this, Im currently having the same issue at this time I can breathe properly no issue on my breathing. Im experiencing a sharp pain in my back and my shoulder.. I went to emergency the doctor just referred me to Toracic clinic and gave me a pain reliever but it’s not working. When I go to bed and lye down on my back there is no pain, but as soon as I got up and move my arm the pain starts again.

I just came across this looking up VATS, I had one totally traumatized me they didn’t do it right. So I’m at another hospital deciding to get another one because I have 5 collapses since 11/22/18 but I’m not mentally prepared. So everything you had done with epidural and then nerve injections they said they’ll do, But I wonder are you ok have you had another collapse?

Hi, I had a spontaneous Pneumothorax and I actually went through the same thing. I did VATs pleuroctomy and bullectomy surgery and now recovering, I am actually 3 weeks into recovering. The three big things I'm feeling are tightness, numbness and tingling in the chest area where the surgery was done. Did anybody had those symptoms after the surgery? And how long it took for the symptoms to go away. Thank you

Hicham Hamze hey late reply but usually the numbness and tingling can take up to months or years for the sensation to go away. It sucks but speaking from personal experience, the nerves will eventually grow back, just very very slowly.
