This is one of my favorite machines. The simplicity and outstanding construction of the machine makes it absolutely great. I do envy the Russian ladies who seem to be a wiz at using this type of machine. I think it is a most wonderful machine for beginners, too. It makes it easy to learn the concepts of using a knitting machine. You are great in this video, thanks for making it.

+rosygoat Thanks so much. This machine is one of my favorites for sure. I'm going to attempt to make all the swatches using the Knitmaster playlist I've made on KZbin. I just wish I could understand Russian because I know there's a wealth of imformation they are saying, but don't understand 1 word of it lol. I've tried using the cc but it's too funny as it doesn't translate very well ;)

I love this video!!!!! I have one of those Knitmaster 4500 stored somewhere in my home, and I never used it because I wasn't able to knit anything on it, it is totally different from the Passap Duomatic 80 and the Brother KH-260 that I have. But after watching this video, I feel so inspired in using it!!!! Thanks a lot for this video!!!!!!!

Oh!!! I have a machine much like yours. It is a Knittax and my mother bought it when I was a child, some 60 years ago. Now I have a Knittax Automatic 2 with ribber, Much younger but it must have some 40 years. They where made in Argentina and many people continue to work on them. We hace a Facebook site called Amigas de la Knittax, you are welcome to peep in, it is in spanish. Best whishes!

Me too! My grandmother was a crafting beast and she could do anything it seemed like. Everything she made was flawless. I am trying to make a blasted pair of socks and it's nowhere as easy as the machine dealers try to make it seem.

Hello, I love your clear instructions and your socks look lovely. I have a knitmaster 4500 and when doing the seam as you go it looks loose and quite laddered. I am wondering if you pass the yarn under the sinker when joining front to the back of the sock as I can see you don't do this during the short row part. I am using 4ply sock yarn on tension 5. Thank you for your time
@Crafteeeone13 жыл бұрын
Hi Dawn, thanks so much for the kind words. No i have not been catching the beg sinker at all and it does produce a tighter seam. It is a bit harder to do the sew as you go but well worth the extra time and attention imho. Good luck with your socks 🙂

I think I'm about to acquire a Knitking 4000, which I assume, is basically the same, as well, although being an older model than the 4500, I can't imagine how it could get any more basic. Wow! Thanks for this video! So glad I found it! I've knitted many, many socks by handknitting and last year I bought a Brother KX350. I've been hearing about people knitting socks not in-the-round on a flatbed, but the idea of having a seam to sew at the end by hand totally turned me off. But your method takes care of that!! Seam-As-You-Go! Love it!! I have a lot of sock yarn still and can't wait to get home and try this method. Also, Can you do argyle? I've hand knitted a lot of argyle socks, but would love to be able to do it on a machine. Bravo!!

I have a couple of machines like this, and need to find out how to change the needle retention "whatever". My 4000 has a small strip UNDER the needles, which doesn't make sense, and I really need to find something to replace it with and find out if it goes ON the needles, or under. Thank you so much for this video. I have always wanted to try to knit socks using this method. I just rescued one of these machines, paid $50, no tools, no row counter. The brushes are extremely worn, do you know a source for replacement brushes? Thank you.
@Crafteeeone19 жыл бұрын
+CleverEwe You're welcome. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. I made my own needle pushers with 5 count stiff plastic canvas and popsicle sticks that work pretty well and used the tools from my standard gauge machine. I wish I had a source for replacement parts but I just look on Ebay or post on Ravelry in the wanted section of machine knitting group.

This was very interesting and informative. Now are you using fingering weight yarn or dk weight yarn and I think you said you could do two socks at a time right or wrong? Can you give a sight where you purchased your machine and also would like to know how long have you had your machine.

Juanita Montgomery I use fingering weight for my socks. Yes 2 socks can be done at the same time as it’s intarsia based. I bought my machine from eBay at least 4 years ago. I love this machine and use it quite often.

C. Meyer You can download a manual from the Internet for free. Just do a search, there are a few places. There is no hold button, just bring the needle all the way forward and it automatically holds :)

Hi, please help, I am having a problem with this machine, the needles get stuck as it goes across the bed. I just got this machine, so I don't know a lot about it, On the underside of the carriage, there are pins that keep the flippers springy. The pin on the left side is sticking straight out over the top of the flipper, while the pin on the right side is curved over the flipper. Which way is it supposed to be? Please help me.
@Crafteeeone16 жыл бұрын
Knitting Nana Hi, it looks like both of my pins are on top, perhaps connected to the triangle flippers. I’ve taken a few pics but not sure how to post them here. Email me at vivianne1018 At gmail (.com) and I can email you the pics if you’d like

thank you so much, Vivianne, I just sent you an email.

Hi Vivianne, it wasn't the flipper pins at all that caused the problem. This morning, after much thinking and observing, I've discovered something. I tried pulling out a different section of needles on the bed into working position and guess what? The carriage had no problem running across. At first I thought a bent needle, so one by one, I eliminated each needle to see which one was the culprit. Well, it wasn't a bent needle, it was the wrong needle for this machine!!!!! Looking at the butt head of needle Left 7, it was shorter than the rest! Problem solved, replacing the needle solved the problem. There was two sections of needles that had similar short butted needles, so I took them out as well! I'm a happy knitter. I cleaned and put back these needles, too. I should have noticed the difference, probably did, and ignored it. Just had to let you and everyone know, please check the butt heads of your needles as part of the reason that your carriage gets stuck without yarn in it. Thank you, Vivianne

What wool are you using for these socks and where do you buy it?...thanks
@Crafteeeone18 жыл бұрын
I usually use Paton's Kroy sock yarn, which can be found at Joann's Michaels or Hobby Lobby. I've used Knitpicks Stroll sock yarn as well. Any fingering yarn works as long as it has some nylon with the wool to add strength.
@alwayskintyreargyll63448 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply, can you remember what the blue and green one in this video is, I might not be able to get it in Scotland but love that wool.

How do you knit a rib on the machine? P.s. Thank you for this! I bought one of these machines from eBay specifically for my socks and this video plus your Russian playlist have been so helpful. It didn’t come with any tools, so I just use a tapestry needle to put stitches back on the needle - is there a rib tool that you can get and how do you use it?
@Crafteeeone16 жыл бұрын
Lydia KnowsNothing Hi, you need a latch tool to reform stitches to make ribbing. My machine came with no tools either but you can use tools for the standard gauge machines. Do a KZbin search for latching up ribbing on a knitting machine. Should show you how it’s done. Hope this helps 🙂
